Sonora Restaurant Port Chester Reviews from The Last Year
We went to Easter Brunch at Sonora.
It was a great experience all around. Valet parking staff were quick and professional. We had a 1PM reservation. We were seated right away. The staff offered the regular menu and a Price Fixe menu. Everything was reasonably priced. The food was amazing. Wait staff was attentive and courteous. The live jazz band was very talented, and played at just the right volume. We will be back soon!
Disappointing and expensive
Came for the Friday paella dinner and $200 later we were still hungry. Portions were small yet expensive; indifferent service. Very loud room. Overall, not a great experience.
Very good food.
Service is quite fast and to detail. Music get a bit loud to hold a normal conversation but the ambience is amazing.
Disappointing food and service.
Not going back! They screwed up our order and the food was barely edible once it arrived.
Go here if you are in Weschester - Modern Latino food
Towards the LIRR side of NY, it is a quaint little fine dining restaurant which my old friends took me. The menu was expansive and refreshing. Tried 2 interesting Mexican lagers (Victoria and the Tecate) I think. For main course, we tried the Cuban Churrasco (Angus skirt steak topped with quail egg, lobster and sweet plantain chino latino rice with saffron lime garlic mojito), Argentinian Costillas (braised beef short ribs, garlic potatoes and rioja au jus) and Mexican Camarones y Vieras (shrimps and sea scallops on a bed of black beans and monterrey jack cheese ravioli with sweet corn chipotle-chardonnay sauce). The appetizers of tortillas were delicious too. Highly recommended plus they have a pretty cool band on weekends.
This restaurant has a lot of good reviews.
My experience here was quite below par. The atmosphere and service are quite good. The food is not. My brother and I ordered steak and eggs for Sunday brunch. The portion of steak was small and the texture quite chewy and unappetizing. The eggs were scrambled but not fluffy and inviting at all. Even more surprising, the meal came with multigrain toast that was soggy and not really toasted at all. All of this for the bargain price of $18.95. This is a sad situation since this place had potential to be a good spot but the chef just doesn't get it.
Good Tapas in Port Chester
Arrived around 5 p.m. on a Wednesday for tapas and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The waiters were very attentive, the food was excellent and prices for the dishes we ordered and wine by the glass were reasonable. We had the blue crab croquettes, grilled octopus, calamari salad, meat empanadas, coconut shrimp and eggplant meatballs with churros for dessert. Everything was delicious. We'll definitely go back again.
I don't normally leave reviews.
I've been here before and loved the food. I live near by and figured I'd come and check it out again after some time has passed. My partner and I decided to split a meal and order a couple tapas appetizers. We ordered steak expecting it to be full of flavor. It was not. Sadly, the food was subpar. Definitely not worth the money spent. They did however compensate with a chocolate lava cake and some complimentary cookies at the end of our meal. Still, don't think we'll be returning. The drinks were good, that's about it. Also, one of the runners took out plate while we were still eating....quit disappointing to say the least.
I went for brunch today for my birthday, we started with
I went for brunch today for my birthday, we started with their guacamole and chips, very good! The got Challah French Toast, the presentation was good, downfall it was not cooked fully . From what I was able to eat, the taste was good. They took the meal off, and as far as the service , it was great, and I will return again for a second try!
The service was excellent and the ambiance is lovely.
Last time we ate there, the food was excellent but not so last night. I ordered filet mignon The filet mignon was covered in potatoes, rice and chorizo. The meat was overcooked and the rice and potatoes tasted as if they were leftovers from the night before. The chorizo did not add to the dish.
Disappointing and uninspired
In the pre-pandemic days, we loved coming to Sonora either as a couple or with friends for a memorable and creative meal. We had not been back since Xmas of 2019 and were eager to return. But our meal last night was truly disappointing. With the exception of the outstanding brussel sprouts tapas, and the very good yet remarkably pricey seafood paella, everything else we had was bland and unspired. As a vegetarian, I ordered the quinoa empanadas and the Spanish tortilla, the latter being a Spanish favorite and a reminder of a summer I spent in Zamora, Spain. Both were bland and almost tasteless. My son ordered the Rosh Hashan prix fixe meal. The challah platter had one piece of challah and otherwise, not particularly good baguette-like bread, very little honey, and not particularly juicy pomegranite seeds, while his entree of salmon came with the smallest of salmon steaks and what he described as boring asparagus. The service was also not up to par. While someone inquired about our appetizer, no one checked in with us during the main course and I had to get a waiter's attention to request salt and pepper to season my boring meal. We also had to request to have our water glasses refilled. I hope this was simply an off night but based on it alone, I would hesitate to return.
Amazing food.
Great ambiance! Presentation was excellent and great tasting food! Would definitely come back again!
Tasty food.
Great cocktails. Amazing service. The ambiance is lovely, especially when they do the live jazz. This will become our new go to spot!
came here for hh.
yet again this place over delivers. fabulous cocktails. from the hh menu - the quinoa empanada, guac, and argentine eggplant meatballs are standouts. my wife got the salmon entree and it was incredible - perfectly cooked and a wonderful saffron sauce. this place really knows how to cook quinoa. but the killer dish was the steak tacos
Awful
The experience was simply awful. The evening started with the staff losing our reservation. The dining room was exceptionally loud. After placing our order the first item received was not what was ordered and had to be sent back. The appetizer which was a raw tuna tostada was rank (spoiled) and could not be eaten. The entree courses were exceptionally small especially in comparison to the same entrees served prior to the pandemic. In addition, the prices were tremendously over inflated. I am sorry to say that a once great dining experience has significantly worsened.
