Midsummer House Cambridge Reviews from The Last Year
A Midsummer Day’s Dream
This was my second time dining at Midsummer House. I had decided to spoil my partner with her first visit to celebrate a Birthday. It was a delightful visit and we were made to feel very special. From the start, after you walk through the front door, there is an atmosphere you don’t feel in my places. Everyone is treated as an individual, yet the most important guest in the restaurant. It’s a real skill to spread that sort of attention. The food service is polite and done with such care which is hard to fault. Unfortunately, on this occasion, during the lunch service we were missed off the Sablé entrées. The waiter quickly resolved this a couple of starter courses in, without any fuss. The sommelier has such a warm character. He’s a real credit, as are the other staff, to the astounding chefs. Both female front of house on the day were also very discreet and welcoming. They made us feel at home. The food doesn’t need any commentary from me as it’s absolutely outstanding, recognised by Michelin and critics galore. It’s truly worth the experience. Thanks to everyone at Midsummer for making my partner’s birthday very special.
Awful experience
I had an awful experience with Midsummer House. My family went for lunch to celebrate my dad and husband’s birthdays. Following the meal, I emailed Midsummer House with some serious concerns. I was very disappointed with their poor customer service that followed. I emailed them to share my concerns before leaving a review and I was absolutely shocked at their response. They said that my intention to leave a review was by itself a "threat" and made it clear they would start legal action if I made any "slanderous statements", and that they will try to remove my review. I asked for nothing in my email, and felt their response could have been more sympathetic and less attacking. An overall very disappointing experience and I will never return.
Such a treat
My husband took me to celebrate my 50th birthday as it had been on my wish list for a while. The warm welcome as the front door opened was the start of 3 lovely hours of being looked after! The tasting menu just got better course after course - standouts for us were the rabbit, asparagus, butternut squash and chocolate parfait. I had the wines to match and hubby had the non - alcoholic pairings which were also delicious. We opted for the cheese course which was a nice surprise in how it was presented. The service was wonderful, calm and attentive, just the right amount of conversation. As we left we were handed a bag with the menus and two apple muffins to have when we got home with a cup of tea! These were delicious as anticipated and a lovely touch.
Spectacular from start to finish
What an amazing experience at Midsummer House. The staff were all brilliant, really knowledgeable and attentive. All the extra little touches made it super special. And the food and wine pairing was just divine. Every course was absolutely delicious and just right to feel full but not absolutely stuffed.
Beale's Plaice
This was our third visit and the food, drink and staff, particularly Katie, were excellent as ever. I recommend the luxurious wine pairing, which was a real treat. It's a shame that the owner was too self- important to come out of the kitchen himself to apologise for his table booking error. Sending out Adam Woodyatt (the actor who plays Ian Beale in Eastenders) instead, whilst comedic, was a bit embarrassing for all concerned and somewhat patronizing.
A fantastic and surprisingly good value experience - would definitely recommend
Just fantastic! everything so well prepared and presented - the confit of rabbit with prunes and duck liver was the most amazing thing I have ever tasted and most of the other dishes weren't far behind. One of the few restaurants of it's kind where I think everything was so good it was actually worth the money Very nice and quite knowledgable staff Maybe a little light and initially quiet in the restaurant, my only (slight) criticism My wife had the non alcoholic pairings, which were varied and all outstanding, and a great way to include people who don't drink in the whole expereince. It was a 21st birthday celebration and there was a card waiting and a goody bag with cake to take away - thanks! Great touch. Would definitely come again some day and recommend to others
A memorable lunch
Champagne on arrival followed by the Lunchtime Taster Menu; two hours and forty-five minutes of blissful indulgence. Every one of the 13 elements was exquisite in presentation and taste and the service was quietly efficient with an explanation of each ingredient (what, where from and how prepared). To accompany the meal were 3 glasses of selected excellent wines, again with a full description.
Amazing !
No wonder its rated as the best resturant in Cambridge and probably further afield Its not cheap but such high qualty food Amazing friendly staff A great setting by the Cam on the edge of Midsummer Green The staff and Chefs need to be awarded five stars ! Highly Recommended !
An outstanding experience
The best experience ever, we were lucky to have been given vouchers as presents for such a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived the service was exceptional, the front of house staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. The tasting menu was superb, the presentation and flavours were fantastic, great wine menu, we chose a lovely English wine from Stopham Vineyard from our home county of Sussex The highlight of our trip was the opportunity to meet Daniel and his team with a visit to the kitchen, where we were introduced to the whole team and each station was explained to us. Every course was faultless, presentation wise, every plate added to the visual appeal for that course, the flavours were exceptional and such intriguing combinations. Midsummer house is a must for anyone who loves food, it was lovely to get some recommendations for other restaurants from Daniel and his wife to add to our next choices but I truly believe Midsummer will be the top of our list for a very long time to come. If we ever find ourselves in death row our last meal request will be the taster menu at midsummer house !!! Thanks for a great experience and apologies our review was later than it should have been. We look forward the a return visit some day
Nice..but very expensive
There was 6 of us..for a 3 couse meal in the evening The meals were very well presented but very small It was like dining at home as bits just a converted house by the river. Its great for a special occasion if you are not paying yourself..lol. The bill was over £600...gosh !
