This was our first time at Kann, but won't be our last.
Highly recommended and if you're attentive to when they release reservations, not hard to get a table at a preferred time. They release reservations at noon on the first of the month. We did the regular communal tables, but they still provided a great view of the kitchen. The atmosphere is modern with clean lines and a minimalist approach. The tableware is lovely, evoking the colors and feel of the Caribbean. Our server was Jaden, and he did an excellent job. His advice was not pushy, it it was unerring. He showed a real interest in the food and quickly learned our preferences. We started with two cocktails. The Doctor B and the Bel Plaj. The latter was too sweet for our taste but the Doctor B was a great mezcal cocktail. The food is superb, and honestly got better as the meal progressed. We started with the Akra and twice cooked pork. Both were good and the presentation was beautiful, but didn't blow us away. However, when we moved to the side of peanut creamed greens, we understood why Kann has gained its reputation. This is a fantastic dish and I generally hate collard greens. The cauliflower is a show stopper, and the coffee rubbed flat iron steak was excellent. Don't be put off by the spice of the cauliflower! We paired the mains with both a white and a red wine. The sommelier has done a great job picking wines by the glass that work with everything and all the crazy spices that infuse every dish. We finished with the passion fruit pavlova. Amazing! The pastry chef is to be commended. This is not the pavlova you make at home and is the perfect summer dessert, paired with a great Riesling. My only caveat is that Chef Gregory likes salt. A lot. Since we use very little, it can be a shock to the system. Otherwise, I'd recommend weighing your meal toward the sides and mains. I'm looking forward to our next visit.
First - hats in good has spiciness.
So if you can't handle a little kick then this is not the place for you. The Bel Plaj cocktail was perfect. Not to sweet but an excellent blend of flavors. I had only intended to have one but just had to have a second one. The akra and plantain brioche buns were good but not great. The wood butter and sauces that accompanied them however were delicious. The peanut creamed spinach was also good. What was truly exceptional were the coffee rubbed flank steak and baked Haiti....especially the baked Haiti. It alone made the meal.

Everything was bright and full of flavors that felt like summer. The stone fruit and berry salad is amazing (yes a salad). The new steak dish is much smaller than the rib with meat, which also makes the price more approachable. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The halibut was good, but I don't love bone in presentation. The spaghetti dish has been updated with scallops and I really like this version a lot. And don't sleep on the cauliflower. It's spicy and delicious. Desserts were all amazing. Baked Haiti is a 10! And the crust on the tart was flaky and reminded me of my grandma's and that's a huge compliment. Plan to come back again!
Kann did not disappoint.
An explosion of flavors from the salad and cocktails to the chocolate cake. So grateful for the amazing service - as good as it gets.

Birthday dinner was incredible! We were 15 minutes early but seated right away and I was given birthday card. Love the open kitchen, bright space, and the greenery inside. I also really like that you have inside door to enter. The staff were so gracious. The menu is a soft leather, unexpected, and I love it. Includes a map of Haiti. I would try everything listed. I don't like that you have to place the whole order at once. The food was so delicious! I wish I had servings of the kampachi. The creamed greens was so good, a little heavy on the peanuts for me, but so good. The steak so flavorful, loved it. The chicken was great but a bigger portion than I expected and so filling. Probably could have gone with another started instead since we were only 2. I have to leave room for dessert and it hit the spot. I was completely satisfied with this meal. I definitely recommend dinner here.

Went here with a group of 6. Wife, Daughter, Son in Law, and two grandchildren. I cant say enough about this wonderful place. From the moment you walk in, and they escort you to your table, you feel it's a big deal, and you know you're in for something special. The decoration is simple but elegant, light and airy. The attention is just right, from the moment you are called and ecorted to you table. Friendly and very knowledgable staff. We had lots of questions given the menu. Our waitress was spot on. Not easy to judge so quickly of what such a diverse group with wide raging ages would like, but her recommendation hit the spot. Its fantastic when you can drill down on the taste, ingredients in the converstion with the person that is in the end going to recommend what to eat. Its a sharing type restauran, and each recommendation was better than the next! They were all fantastic, not one of them missed the target. I recomend the following: ASPARAGUS & SPRING ONION SOUP with dngeness crab, as a starter in the middle of the table, , EGGPLANT, ESPAGETI, HAITIAN SPAGHETTI, CANE SYRUP BBQ CHICKEN, PLANTAIN BRIOCHE BUNS, are a must. Cant remember what else we had, but it was all so good! Trust me go with their recommendation, they know what they arre talking about. They drill down and ask you enough questions so they have a high possibility of hitting on what you will like. I highly recommend this restaurant, don't miss it if you're in Portland, and reserve with time, the locals make this a very popular and sought after eating experience. Kudos to the Chef and the Staff!

My fiancé and I got really lucky to grab a reservation for two on a Sunday evening. The food was amazing and totally worth the splurge. Every bite was full of flavor, and there wasn't a single thing we didn't love. Sitting at the chef's counter was awesome; we got to watch the food being made right in front of us. My mouth is watering just typing this, and I can't wait to come back!
Amazing culinary experience
A true Haitian authentic cuisine Dishes we tried: The giyro pork is “The Traditional Haitian Dish”. Amazing meat The cauliflower is “The Signature Dish of Kann”. Superb The Pork chop is “Is the Best of Its Kind”. Highly recommended The wild Alaskan halibut is “A Masterpiece Dish”. For fish lovers, and the like. Now, for the dessert, the Baked Haiti is “A Must Try”. you will not regret it. Drinks: Cocktail; the “Bel Plaj” is an art in a glass. The “Fle Chadek” is good. While “Doctor B” is an acquired taste, which I did not care for it. Service: top notch Price: very fairly priced, matches the quality, originality, and taste Ambience: we sat at the chef/kitchen table, and we loved it. High seats, but you watch the action. And enough space between seats. Extremely Highly recommended for food lovers and explorers.

I wanted to love this place so much, we had seats at the counter, it was fun watching the kitchen, I was looking forward to a leisurely dinner. We'll that didn't happen... we were told to give our entire order at once and warned that the dishes would come to our table as soon as they're ready.... And that happened really fast! The food is outstanding spiced perfectly, but what's the rush? We could barely hear our server above the din, let alone have a conversation. We were in and out in an hour...... at $250...... again, great food... but a "fast food" experience
The food at KANN is excellent.
Every menu item is gluten free and milk free. They also have a separate vegan menu. No matter what you order , it is guaranteed to be delicious. The service is attentive . Unfortunately it is so loud in the restaurant that we really couldn't hear the wait staff, nor could we hear each other. It's just too noisy. The food is phenomenal, the wait staff are probably the best in Portland , sadly the noise level was too much. Hence 4 stars instead of 5
Too noisy but great taste.
Food was excellent. We had a table for 6 and unfortunately the noise is so loud that we could not converse across the table, basically only with the person next to us. Could not hear what the servers were saying hardly at all as they mostly talked in a normal street voice.
Never had a chance, the peons don't count until they need us.
I never got a chance to get a reservation. The web site never loaded to see the reservation site. It never loaded most of the web site. The Resy web site also did not load no matter how many times I tried. I guess this restaurant is so successful they don't care. I once logged on at exactly at the second they released the next months reservations and they were already booked up. Scam ! One day when they are not so popular I guess they will care about us peons !
Simply Outstanding!
Our daughter and son-in-law were able to treat us to this gourmand’s delight this week, when we visited them from the East Coast. What a beautiful surprise. We have eaten at many of Portlands finest culinary establishments throughout our 20 years of visiting our daughter in Portland; I can’t remember any of them matching the Michelin star quality of the food we enjoyed on this menu. Each course that was brought out was sublime: Plantain Brioche Buns, Lightly Cured Kampachi, Asparagus & Spring Onion Soup (with generous portions of dungeness crab) were delectable starters that had us eagerly awaiting the entrees. The Scallops, Coffee Rubbed Flatiron Steak and Diri Ak Djon Djons did not disappoint. The only item that made this visit from being perfect, was the extra spicy heat the Peanut Cream Greens had, which caught one of our foursome off guard. The dessert course however ended our night on a sensory high note, with all three of the offerings: Passion Fruit & Orange Sponge Cake, Peanut Guava and Chocolate Tart, and Strawberry Rhubarb Millefeuille, tempting us to ask for seconds. I must make special note of the Strawberry Rhubarb Millefeuille, that I personally had. It was truly a strawberry dessert lover’s delight…wow…just exquisite!

You don't need a cocktail because you will get a euphoric experience through the spice combinations and preparation during this amazing food adventure. The staff had high energy and enthusiasm for each vibrant dish they placed in front of you. We ordered all of the desserts and I will say we would have been fine sipping the gorgeous drinking chocolate as it was in my opinion, the best. While I say, you don't need a drink, midway through my meal, I ordered their bourbon cocktail and was not disappointed. This place is 100% worth the wait and the effort to get a reservation. This is not just eating, this is an experience.

Beautiful restaurant with a serene decor unfortunately it was so loud that it was difficult to have conversations across the table. The plantains with pork was a highlight, different textures and taste. The chicken dumpling soup was a low for us, it was really salty and a bit oily. the cauliflower was really good. The sausage was also good combined with the cabbage. Overall the food just a bit salty for us. The sponge cake was definitely a winner for the family. Service was attentive.

It was everything I thought it was going to be and more.
The food was well flavored and the main dishes are definitely sharing sizes. I also got the twice cooked pork which was beautifully delicious. The service is very good they're really attentive, energetic and nice. The ambiance is down to earth and elegant. Full of energy. We had the pork chop, chicken and cauliflower. All of it was delicious! The chicken was our favorite! Very juicy and a little spicy. The desert was to die for, all the flavors went well together. The cauliflower had a nice kick to it as well. Their menu is seasonal so it's different from time to time which is exciting! I can't wait to go there next time! It's a must eat at place! Tell next time!

The waiting list to get a reservation for Kann can sometimes extend out to months, so since this was our first time in Portland (and we'd likely wouldn't be back for a long time), we were lucky enough to get a table after a cancellation. Overall the food was good. I didn't like the fact that the salmon and chicken were undercooked. I can understand doing that to red meat, but I don't understand why chicken should be served bloody. In any event, the chef was very kind after we raised the issue and put the chicken back on the fire for us. It's cool that they roast on open fire! Actually allowing it to cook and get some crispiness to the skin actually enhanced/brought out the flavor and seasonings. I was very impressed by their soup and the fact that it had spinners in it which I wouldn't expect from a fine dining version of Afro-Caribbean cuisine. Like I said the food was good. Only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because I don't like my food served to me still raw. Because of the price point I probably wouldn't go back unless I'm celebrating something.

Customer service was excellent. My favorite was the cauliflower! Not what I was expecting. Every item that came out was explained in detail and made you want it more! I was visiting from Texas and have wanted to try this for awhile.IT did not disappoint! Can't wait to go back!!!
On the fence - 4 to 5 stars
It took forever to get reservations here, but we finally got one for a Saturday night at 6pm. We waited a bit to speak to the server, who was very professional, well spoken and confident. The server explained the menu nicely and set our expectations for our meal. We waited a little longer to order our drinks and place our dinner order. Chef Gourdet did serve our drinks, which was a nice surprise and made the dinner feel personalized and special. We ordered the scallops, duck and the prawns for the entrees. The server messed up our order and accidentally brought us two orders of scallops and the prawns but we didn't notice. She offered to also bring us the duck (in 7 minutes!) and apologized but we were happy with the food and satisfied with our dinner. We ordered two desserts, both were excellent. The scallops were quite spicy, the prawns were delicious and the taro fritters and plantain rolls were my favorite. We didn't get the duck but we left happy and full. I gave it 4 stars for the value of the food and the service. The atmosphere is nice and well done, but the restaurant was quite loud and the table were so wide that it was difficult to hear the person across from you. In the end I would return for another visit to try it again, but next time I will lower my expectation a touch.
Amazing dining experience
It’s almost impossible to get a reservation at Kann, but my friend was able to snag one. We were not disappointed! For starters, the specialty cocktails were so fun—mine had peppers floating on top for a nice little zip. We tried lots of menu items, but my favorites were the tomato and stone fruit salad, the jerk cauliflower and the twice cooked pork. Everything on the menu is gluten and dairy free, even the brioche, so it’s great for folks with dietary restrictions. The place is not cheap, but every morsel was outstanding and the service impeccable.
Worth the wait!
Amazing fresh and bright flavors, all expertly prepared. Service was impeccable and the staff is super knowledgable and educates you about the dishes as they are delivered. Can’t wait to return!
Tasty food but extremely loud
Our group of six had to wait outside in the rain for at least twenty minutes past our reservation time. Umbrellas were eventually provided. The restaurant has very poor acoustics making it very difficult to hear anyone talking across the table. Hoping the acoustics can be improved. The service was extremely good, professional and attentive without hovering. It was strongly suggested that we eat the food family style and order a variety of many items. The food was generally delicious but with six people sharing more than a dozen items including deserts, it resulted in only a small taste of most every dish and a somewhat confusing mishmash of flavors. Also, six people trying to procure their piece of a half chicken was a bit unappetizing. I strongly recommend either dining as a couple not a larger group, or each person ordering their own items instead of family style. Very tasty items included warm plantar brioche buns, salad russe (smoked beets!), peanut creamed greens (hot!), glazed duck. The berry tomato salad was good, the pickled watermelon rind was such a scanty serving (especially considering the prices) that it is hard to comment. Jasmine rice with bean sauce - well I always like rice and beans but nothing special. Crispy rockfish was good. Ordered all four desserts and was alloted a small bite of each. They all seemed very good. Very small glasses of wine for I think $20. In sum, the food was very flavorful and generally excellent but the place is too noisy for a group to interact easily. Bill worked out to a little over $110 per person, not surprising based on all the hype.
Kann portland is great!
Well worth the price, actually left with a full belly which is sometimes not the case in fancy restaurants. Great flavors, great service. They really run you through the service so they can turn the table in 1 hour 45 minutes, which was adequate time to enjoy dinner drinks and dessert.
Mixed Feelings
Two of us dined at Kann in mid-July after months of trying to get a reservation to this popular restaurant. I’m conflicted about our visit. On the one hand, the food was excellent. We ordered the Salad Russe (potato-smoked beet salad - $15), Diri Ak Djon Djon (Haitian black mushroom rice and lima beans - $15), octopus ($26), crispy rockfish ($25), and bottle of wine followed by two desserts ($15 each), a coffee ($5), and a glass of port ($11). Our server was helpful in ensuring our portions were sized appropriately, warning us the octopus was just one tentacle. Dishes were presented with an extensive description that at times bordered on comical. On the other hand, noise level was excessive and the pricing was at the top for Portland or even a resort area. One menu item is a bone-in ribeye steak for $200 (not sure how many it serves, but the one we saw leaving the kitchen was huge). We ended up with a $195 bill, which included suggested tip options at 25%, 30%, and 35%, far more than any other bill we’ve ever encountered. What happened to the customary 20% tip that was 15% pre-pandemic? We left 25% minus change but still felt coerced. Chef Gourdet was present in the kitchen but we never saw him conversing with diners at the long chef’s counter, which we thought a bit odd since he is the prominent face behind this endeavor and could have personalized this expensive experience for his guests. Before dining at Kann, we had a drink and accra (saltfish cod fritters) at Sousol, the downstairs bar. While pricey for a glass of cava, a nonalcoholic drink, and the fritters at $51 including tip, it was the mandatory 22% gratuity that was off-putting, as was the $25 cocktails. We’ve never encountered a mandatory tip at a bar. Kudos to Chef Gourdet for showcasing his culture to a Portland restaurant, but based on the pricing it will be interesting to see if many diners return to support it (and help his investors pay off the reported $2 million price tag). If he truly wants to expose Haitian cuisine to Portland diners, bringing it only to the well-heeled seems an odd way of doing so.

Incredible. There is a reason that it is hard to get a reservation. Amazing Haitian food. Entire menu is gluten/dairy free and they have amazing no-proof cocktails. Service was amazing A wonderful place for a special dinner
Showed up at 6:15pm for my 6:45pm reservation.
Checked in and was escorted to their bar. 6:45pm came and went, 7:00pm came and went and finally 7:15pm we were told that our table was ready and we could head up to the restaurant. For the #1 restaurant in PDX to sit folks 35 mins after their reservation (which they do this reservation for the next month opens at 12:23pm on 3rd day of month when the moon is full to keep the restaurant hyped up) is pretty bad in my opinion. If I was 35 mins late to my reservation, would the hostess say it's ok? No, they would cancel my reservation, so why is it ok for me to show up 30 mins early and get seated 35 mins late? Food was alright. Ordered pretty much all the hype stuff on menu (pictures below) best thing was the banana upside down cake.

WOW. What a gem within Portland. Absolutely one of the best restaurants I've been to and it sure worth the wait!FOODWe got an assortment of dishes and everything tasted absolutely insane!! First was the butterfish. It was topped with a citrusy shaved ice. The tenderness of the fish and the acidity of the ice made a very interesting flavor explosion in my mouth. The twice cooked pork was pretty good, nothing spectacular to write about. The octopus was really tender. The sauce was amazing as well. This dish leaned towards the more expensive side. IMO it's borderline worth it but it for sure tasted very good Last was the duck two ways. The duck breast was a bit gamey but over all pretty good! We paired it with Djon Djon rice (not pictured). The mushroom infused rice is absolutely THE best thing ive ever tasted. Hands down won't it has to be a dish you have to try. SERVICEThe service over all was pretty good. We had a reservation ahead of time so we were sat pretty quickly. Our server/waitress were super nice as well!The decor was a vibe. The contrast between rose gold and earthy colors made it a wonderful dining experience. ALL IN ALL, kann is one of the best restaurants I've been to and highly recommend anyone to check it out.

PROTIP: set your alarm for the 2nd of every month slightly before noon to snag resos. Wow, this place lives up to the hype. We came with a party of 6 at 4PM on a Saturday. My immediate thought was the light and bright ambiance. It was natural yet colorful, kinda like their dishes. It's hard to remember all the cocktails we ordered, but I would highly recommend the Anana (mocktail) with Barbancourt rum. It was excellent!Our order:* smoked beef ribs * roasted squash & plantain salad* akra * griyo twice cooked pork * cauliflower* diri ak djon djons * peanut creamed greens * glazed duck * king salmon * blancmange * spicy chocolate peanut butter tart* cocktails from KannEverything, and I mean everything, was phenomenal. My favorite dishes were the smoked beef ribs, the peanut creamed greens, diri ak djon djons, and cauliflower, but you really can't go wrong. The service was impeccable. Probably the best service I've had in Portland thus far. The server did recommend 4-6 dishes for each course, but we were able to stuff ourselves on less for party of 6. It is a splurge dinner, but you definitely get what you pay for. I will definitely be back.

This is one of the few restaurants I've been to where multiple times over the following weeks after I went, I would have flashbacks to the flavor explosions I experienced. All food was amazing but I especially loved the smoked beef rib and the cauliflower. While pretty spicy, I would have to say the cauliflower was the best cauliflower I've ever had! We could not finish everything we ate so we brought some home. The next day I reheated the leftovers in the air fryer and it had my whole house smelling of the spices! Yum! After eating we went next door to Sousol, the bar next door also owned by Kann owner Gregory Gourdet. One small bit about the location which is a reflection of Portland and not Kann, it is weird to sit and spend $100's on dinner but have a view outside and see a street lined with houseless people sleeping in tents across the street. That does create a weird feeling.

..it was worth it. Yes it's still hard to get reservations but my friend was able to get one for a party of 5. It was about a month in advance and it was an early early early dinner. Still worth it. Vibes and decor are it! Going with a group really allowed us to try as many things as possible.Plantain Brioche Buns - Warm, fluffy, flavorful goodness. Get it.Akra - Taste and crispy. A good appetizer to start your experience.Griyo Twice Cooked Pork - The plantain used almost like a bread to pair the pork was a welcomed new combination for my tastebuds. Get it.Octopus - Ugh super tender good. Love me a real good cooked octopus. Definitely get.Epis Brine Chicken - Good, but nothing too special compared to everything else. This easily could have been a skip for me.Glazed Duck - Sweet, tender, delicious. This was my favorite along with the OctopusPeanut Creamed Greens - It almost tasted like Kare Kare (Filipino dish) but with a Haitian twist. This is the type of place where either you like shouting to your dinner companions to be heard because it's so noisy, and close enough to other diners you can reach over with your fork to taste what they ordered, or you don't. I don't. Service was very friendly but slow. Waiting a long time for drinks which didn't arrive at the same time and there were just 2 of us. Didn't even bother to try and get a second drink. My wine was just adequate and I found the food hit or miss. Hit was was the buns and pork plates. I did not care for the peanut greens as the texture and taste reminded me of baby food. I also did not like the combination of the blackened salmon with the raw (albeit cooked) interior. Glad I tried it, but not replacing any of my favorite restaurants.
Went to Kann on Saturday March 11.
Arrived at 4:00 pm for a 4:15 pm reservation because a friend suggested we get there a bit early to check out the bar. So, we arrive and check in, and I ask if we can go to the bar before being seated. No, because the bar didn't open until 5 pm. "OK, we'll wait, that's fine." No, the check-in person said, you'll have to come back. At the time, the restaurant was a sea of empty tables. "You mean, go outside? And wait on the sidewalk?" Yep. So we waited on the sidewalk in the blustery cold in an unpleasant neighborhood. I hadn't expected to be outside, so I wasn't dressed for it. Too bad for me, apparently. I would simply have left, but we guaranteed the reservation and my wife was very much looking forward to it. The place can get away with its arrogant attitude because at the moment it is in such demand and they can get away with anything, at the moment at least. I would comment on the food, but it was such an overall unpleasant experience that it was meaningless to me. My fiancée and I drove 3hrs from Seattle to try this restaurant and it was amazing! We did not have reservations but were able to get seated at the bar without a wait. If can't get a reservation I recommend getting there right when they open to get walk in seating . The food was very flavorful and tasted like authentic Haitian food. This restaurant did a fantastic job incorporating elements of Haiti in the decor, design, menu and taste. The waiters and bartenders were also great and very knowledgeable about the food and culture they were serving and made the whole experience one to remember.

Food: we ordered akra, octopus, black rice with mushrooms, brioche, salmon, rice and red beans, chicken, short ribs and crème brûlée. Every one was flavor-filled and totally worth it. The flavor profiles are insanely good. Reasonable prices for a high end establishment.

To start things off, the restaurant is beautiful. We were seated and quickly taken care of. Our server explained the menu well and took drink orders. The cocktails were excellent. For food we ordered 4 starters, 2 sides and 4 mains. We had four people and it was a lot of food! Don't underestimate. We weren't disappointed because we wanted to try most of the menu. We only got through about 70% of the food. Stand outs were the duck and the chicken for me. The rib was great as well, super tender, the octopus was super tender as well. The biggest shock for myself was enjoying the chicken so much. I usually stay away from chicken at higher end restaurants because it's usually boring, not the case here, this is a must have item. The entire team checked in on us often and made us feel at home. I hope I have a chance to go back for the summer menu!

Ambience/vibe is super cute, drinks were good, food was good, didn't feel rushed at all, waiter was attentive, overall just a good fine dining experience. Definitely will come back eventually but reservations are hard to grab and it was a more expensive night. Of note my only slight issues: 1. Haitian (and other Caribbean food) is spicy by default, and they love salt lol this place is no different, but personally I like it and some of the sides and accompanying things in the plate are not salted at all so it contrasts well.2. This is not a cheap restaurant, the food and drinks are spendy, their most expensive entree is $102 and some of their bottles are more than that. Out total for 2 was about 170 before tip and we were too full for the dessert menu. Also felt like a sneaker drop on snkrs trying to get the reservation. 3. Please give more of that bomb butter for the brioche buns lol

Let me tell you that I definitely should have booked a reservation before all the articles came out naming Kann the best new restaurant. What a mistake because it took me months to finally nab a reservation for a group of 4. Pro tip - I heard it's easier to book reservations for groups of 6+ more people so maybe use that to come with a larger group. It might even work out since you'll likely want to taste everything on the menu! | AMBIANCE | Oh wow! Prior to coming I didn't do too much research into the location/space so I was surprised to find Kann on the corner spot of the block and be transported to a retro yet modern restaurant. I loved the open kitchen concept and you could really see the team do their work - I need to get the bar seating next time! Along with the large open windows with natural light there is plenty of greenery around as well to add to the vibe. I heard there was a bar downstairs as well if you're trying to walk in or kill time before your dinner reservation. I didn't get to check it out so might try to view it next time I come to dine in. All in all, it's a beautiful and upscale space. | FOOD | + PLAINTAIN BRIOCHE BUNS (ordered two orders for our group) + ROASTED SQUASH & PLANTAIN SALAD+ GRIYO TWICE COOKED PORK (recommended by staff) - My fave!+ SMOKED BEEF RIB (fall off the bone) + GLAZED DUCK (beautiful glaze & sauce - yum!)+ DIRI AK SOS PWA (get the rice with mushrooms)+ PEANUT CREAMED GREENS (delicious! makes you wonder if peanut butter sweet or savory? haha) + PEN PATAT BOULÉ (rich flavor with the potato but would pass on this next time) The menu here is simple yet has an option across the proteins and starters. Unique flavors with each entree and what a great introduction for me to Haitian food. I'm not the best person with spice but the meal had just the right amount and was balanced with the rest of the ingredients in each dish. To help wash everything down be sure to check out their cocktails. They are super unique and definitely not something that I have seen at other places. | SERVICE| Staff here is super attentive and were great about walking us through the menu, recommendations, and timing throughout the meal. Overrated, Overpriced.
Underwhelming experience. Hostess only greeted us with a time limit, barely a hello. "You have 1 hour & 45 min." We should've got up, walked out right there instead of paying over $500 for an average meal for the 4 us to dine. Will NOT go back! My recommendation is to go to their lounge, far better.

So Hard to Get In But So Worth It
Reservations to Kann are incredibly hard to get. After a few months of unsuccessful attempts, I finally nabbed two seats for a super late seating on a Friday night. We came hungry and we came prepared. The food still surprised us. Chef Gregory Gourdet is well-known for his innovative and complex flavor building, building off of his Haitian roots he creates dishes that pack punch, flavors that confuse and draw you in, and a dinner that makes months and months of waiting well worth it. We started the night off with the softest bread ever, a Plantain Brioche Bun served with epis butter that I can seriously eat on everything. The Griyo Twice Cooked Pork killed me with the spicy pickled cabbage, but I am a spice wimp. The pork was incredibly tender and nearly melted in my mouth. The combination of the plantain chips, avocado, pork, and cabbage--perfection. Our entrees were an Epis Brine Chicken served with a smoky mango (smoky mango! I want smoky mango always now) and a King Salmon with a perfectly crisped skin and beautifully flaky meat. That salmon was our absolute favorite. Both were accompanied by the Diri Ak Sos Pwa, jasmine rice with a red kidney bean stew. My one regret was that I didn't order the collards but I guess I'll have something to look forward to when I visit next. For dessert we had the Spicy Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart that was served with a peanut butter ice cream. It was the perfect finish to a wonderful meal and though we were both busting at the seams, we had to lick that plate clean, it was so good. Kann has a yummy-looking cocktail list but we settled for a mocktail made of soursop and coconut (I was unsure at first but as I continued drinking it, hints of maple and mint made its way in and the flavor combination was delightful) and ginger tea. It's too early in the year to say that this was the best meal of 2023 but I have a feeling it's going to be one of the most memorable. Congrats to Kann for their James Beard nomination, it is well deserved.

The accolades for Chef Gregory Gourdet are well deserved. I didn’t know what to expect, but the spices in the Haitian inspired menus won me over. My favorites were the Akra fritters and butterfish! Getting a reservation can be a challenge.

* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $5.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ImmortalStep65, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ImmortalStep65 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ImmortalStep65 for any questions Peter may have as ImmortalStep65 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* ImmortalStep65 now uses their connections at kann Portland to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ImmortalStep65 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ImmortalStep65 receives the $5 reward which is credited to ImmortalStep65's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at kann Portland!
