Da Mario Kensington London Reviews from The Last Year
Great Italian restaurant in Kensington
Da Mario is a wonderful, authentic Italian restaurant. The food is very fresh and delicious and the wait staff is very attentive and friendly. It is a lively and somewhat noisy place. We enjoyed it so much ate there twice.
Worth booking a table.
The service was amazing and the food even better. My husband had the seafood spaghetti and I had the gnocchi. Both were really delicious. The dessert capped off a great evening.
Delizioso! 5 out of 5
My family and I recently had lunch at Da Mario and the food was delicious! We were there for a family occasion and we couldn't have picked a better Italian restaurant. I had the spaghetti alla frutti di mare (seafood) and the fish was cooked perfectly. The octopus, squid, prawns, and muscles were fresh and succulent. We all had clean plates at the end. The only thing that could be better was the customer service. The two waitresses who served us looked miserable and were not welcoming which is a shame because the food was amazing and we were there for a family celebration. The restaurant is also a haunt of the late Diana, Princess of Wales - and it's easy to see why. The food is amazing! If you're a fish fan, this is the place for you!
Fantastic and friendly experience
Massive thanks to all the staff for a fantastic meal! Fabio (I believe that was his name) managed to squeeze us in despite not having booked and the restaurant being busy. All the staff were friendly, service was quick and the pizza was delicious. Delighted we found this and it was only a short walk to the Albert Hall. A little taste of Italy 🇮🇹
This place was 15 min walk from my hotel.
The atmosphere was wonderful. This made my trip to Londoneven more memorable. The food was delicious. I would go back and eat there again.
Disappointing
I went for a dinner with friends. I had a Bruschetta. Usually, bruschetta is made with sourdough bread, I don't know why Italian restaurants in the UK use focaccia, ciabatta or any different bread from sourdough. The tomato on top was tasteless but I was very hungry so I didn't give it too much importance. Then I got seafood pasta, although a bit overcooked it smelt nice and tasted nice. Although 20 pounds for some frozen fish in the pasta is a lot but I understand that this is normal in London. I wouldn't go back just for a good pasta. The bigger disappointment was the tiramisu. Traditionally, the cream of tiramisu is made of egg, sugar and mascarpone cheese. The eggs should be divided into whites and yolks and then mixed them together. In this place they use simple whipped cream because it's cheaper and has more volume so customers get impressed by the size of the dessert but actually is made of a cheap ingredient. The coffee used for the savoiardi biscuits was too bitter and there was way too much cocoa powder on top. Charging 6.50 pounds for this plate of whipped cream is ridiculous. The service was quick but mediocre. I don't like that they have tables that are very close to each other, the more customers you can fit in the restaurant the more you earn.
AMAZING
Had amazing birthday meal, what can i say AMAZING, absolutely fantastic place from food till service 5* you must visit this place won't be disappointed
Delicious food and a positive atmosphere
We accidentally ended up here while looking for a restaurant in Kensington. The place was completely full and there was a small line outside. The owner Mario said, if you are patient, a spot will become available. We waited half an hour, but to be honest, it was worth it. The food was really delicious and the staff was very friendly despite the crowds and made time for a short chat. It was noisy because of the loud talking and loud music. On the other hand, that also made the atmosphere. In our opinion, it is highly recommended and you should definitely visit it if you are in the area.
This is unbelievably great pizza! I can see why Princess
This is unbelievably great pizza! I can see why Princess Diana brought her boys there regularly. Excellent service, great food and wine - who could ask for a better Italian / Pizza restaurant
Excellent food and ambient
Marvelous place, employees and food. We come back in here. Congratulations!! I'll recommend at my friends and family.
Delicious Italian Food
Lovely restaurant with great servers. My hubby and I shared a pizza and a large salad. Both were excellent. We had the house special dessert which was a black currant cheesecake. We cannot wait to go back!
Great spot for pasta and pizza
Steps away from Gloucester Road Station and Kensington Gardens. Nestled amongst Kensington suburb. Di Mario is a very popular spot. Staff are friendly, great menu and food is tasty.
Fabulous food, brilliant service.
We happened upon this fabulous eatery on our second visit to London. I have to have gluten-free. I called ahead and was t5okd they could assist with my dietary requirements. When we arrived, it was busy, but we were seated quickly. Maurice was our waiter, and he was so attentive and welcoming. The food was awesome, and the tiramasu was the best I've eaten outside Venice. 😋 we would definitely recommend it. But book if you can.
Fantastic dinner!
We booked via email and our booking was accepted with an email response. I would recommend booking as although there are lots of seating down stairs and a few seats upstairs at the entrance it gets very busy. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the food is amazing, we really enjoyed every bite of our food. I would return again as soon as I can it was that enjoyable, the only suggestion I could make is if they had more of a selection of spirits on their menu or even if they did cocktails that would be great but they do have a good enough selection anyway so you will find something that you will like and that's literally it, as the atmosphere, the staff, the food, the wine selection, the seating, everything is brilliant there!
Excellent veggie choices
Had a fabulous meal here with great service and atmosphere. Great choice in particular for vegetarian Very reasonable prices and would greatly recommend 😀
First time at Da Mario and would go again
Excellent food from starter to coffee, top quality and very friendly service. Tried their seafood pizza and the fish toppings were fresh and delicious. The dough was light and not heavy at all. If visiting Central London give it a try.
Perfect in every way
Great little find near the Natural history museum. Booked for 3pm but turned up an hour earlier as kids were hungry and they were more than happy to accommodate us. Lovely authentic Italian food, friendly service and very reasonably priced given the location. No hesitation in recommending and would definitely go again.
5 star
Best Italian food pizza pasta atmosphere and without a doubt best service, pasta vongole next level, dog friendly, great wine list
Mediocre Italian food.
Crowded loud upstairs, drab downstairs seating. My pizza was undercooked and I am not sure more toasting would have improved it. My friends ordered pasta and thought it was ok, not great. Interestingly , our waiter had a Spanish accent and said he was from Italy. When I tried speaking Italian to him - no comprehension. Strangely like the food which looked Italian but really was from a different culinary place. This is one of so many London restaurants that look good, seem to draw crowds, but ultimately disappoint.
A wonderful experience (again)
We were so happy to return to this lovely restaurant. The food is authentic Italian and excellent (as was the wine). My wife and I like to order a pasta and a pizza and then share the dishes. The service was friendly, cheerful and professional. We met a lovely Californian couple who were sat at the next table. Matt and Tonya if you should happen to read this, we would like to say a enormous thank you to you for your kindness. We were blown away. God bless you and yours
We had a fantastic dinner at Da Mario Restaurant.
The atmosphere was great, and the staff were attentive when we ordered our food and drinks. The truffle pasta was delicious, and we also loved the whole fish and steak with sides. Even though we were offered dessert, we were too full to enjoy it. They have special deals at certain times, which we found to be very reasonable. The manager was really friendly, and all in all, we had a wonderful time. I'd definitely go back again.
Exceptional Italian
We went to discover this Italian restaurant and discovered a fantastic meal in a more than pleasant and familiar atmosphere. The waiters were charming, the pasta was al dente and the pizza exquisite. We will return without a doubt!
Authentically Italian
It was refreshingly authentic to be greeted by a plethora of Italian waiters and waitresses on a recent trip to Da Mario. Food was delicious, wine lovely and atmosphere brilliant. People were queuing out of the door to come in which is a good sign. Glad we booked. Would return if in the area
I have been visiting for half a century, since I attended
I have been visiting for half a century, since I attended school around the corner. If you're looking for authenticity and dependable menus, this is the place. Going from strength to strength with a bookable private area downstairs for groups and parties. Can be slow when busy. Get used to it. There is no compromise in here. Love it!
This place rules.
My wife and I were in London and had some tentative plans on a Monday night that we ended up ditching at the last minute. Next order of business, where to eat? We filtered on a few things and landed on Da Mario, as it seemed like a reliable and popular spot. We weren't able to make a reservation, but walk ups were welcome so we took a shot. We got there around 6:45 (18:45 for non-US peeps) and were told it would be about a 30 min wait. We came back at 7:15 and got right to a two person table with no issue. The menu was pretty extensive but we noticed two guys sitting by us that had some sort of carbonara that we didn't see on the menu. They told us that it was an off menu request but assured us we could order the same. We went with that and a pizza and were extremely happy. The food came quick, it came fresh, and it came delicious. The atmosphere was bumpin and lively inside which added to the meal, since Italian restaurants can sometimes be fancier and on the dimmer side. I'd certainly recommend this to anyone in the Kensington or surrounding areas that would like some authentic and tasty Italian!
Fantastic food and great service.
I have been several times and have enjoyed every meal.
Amazing, simply delicious food.
We ordered veg pasta and gnocchi. Service was amazing to cater to our diet preferences and void cross contamination.
Amazing place!!! Food and staff were wonderful.
We loved everything about it! Anytime we are in London we will return.
What an AMAZING experience tonight! Fabiana made us feel
What an AMAZING experience tonight! Fabiana made us feel like we were home!! She was so cheerful and lovely. Best "hidden menu" carbonara we've ever had. It was my birthday and they played "happy birthday" over the speakers and the whole restaurant sang and clapped for me! We're already planning out next meal there
Omg Italian food at its finest.
its a small little authentic restaurant. Host and Server were brilliant food was fantastic. Piping hot and fresh and very good. ill cross the pond again for another visit
Amazing Italian, gray tasting food close to Royal Albert
Amazing Italian, gray tasting food close to Royal Albert Hall. The seasoning on my pasta was perfect.
I very rarely write reviews but I have to take the time for
I very rarely write reviews but I have to take the time for the sake of my fellow asians/non-whites out there. TLDR: racist staff, average to above average food. Just WOW. My friend (also asian) and I walked in without a reservation around 4:45pm on a weekday, and we were seated right away on the main floor by a friendly host. The issues began pretty quickly. There were maybe 2-3 other parties in the restaurant at that time, but the waiter did not even bring us water despite our OBVIOUS attempts to get his attention. He never said hello, welcome, how are you, nothing. But you know what? That's fine. I can deal with that. What was unacceptable was that he and the hall manager (I think?) were EXTREMELY chatty, friendly and attentive with all of the white/caucasian parties in the restaurant while ignoring us. They checked in on us maybe once or twice during the entire dinner without a single word (just paused briefly at our table-side, listened to what we needed, and walked away). Up to this point though, I really tried to keep and open mind and just enjoy the dinner. HOWEVER. As the night went on, the dinner crowd started coming in, and my friend and I noticed that a LARGE proportion of customers were, for some reason, Asian. However, we did note that the host would lead the Asian parties downstairs, while keeping the white/caucasian parties upstairs. And we were sitting close enough to the host station that we could hear it wasn't because those white customers had reservations. In fact, a lot of the asian customers stated they had reservations and still got led downstairs. I obviously can't speak for the service the other asian customers received, but believe me when I say by the time we got up to leave, we were the ONLY non-white customers on the upper floor. No blacks, Indians, middle-easterners, none. We did have a laugh when we went downstairs to use the bathroom and saw the basement situation. My friend whispered to me "it looks like a Chinese restaurant" because they had sat literally ALL the asian customers in the cramped basement area! In summary, definitely racist vibes here. If you are not white and don't care, then it's a beautiful restaurant with pretty good food. If you are white, please come and have a great time. Hangook saram oji mayo!! Geeboon duh ruh woh yo. Gamsahhapnidah.
