La Ciccia San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
*review for take-out experience only* A more disappointing
*review for take-out experience only* A more disappointing take out experience. Pricey small-portioned pasta and mediocre bread, though the pasta would be forgivable if it weren't completely clumped together and room temp by the time I got home (I live less than 3 min away so i don't believe it was due to the travel time in between). I waited 15 min at the restaurant from time of arrival (which was the time they estimated it'd be ready), I think they are just pretty busy and perhaps shouldn't take to-go phone orders if that's the case. I ordered the uni fettuccine. I liked the uni flavor and the bit of spice, though I also think it could've used more uni (i personally enjoy seafood flavor). Maybe if it were a bit less spicy the uni flavor would stand out more, but the spice also added to the dish. I definitely haven't had anything like it; other uni pastas I've tried are on the creamy side but I enjoyed the flavor of this more in comparison. Would consider coming back to dine in person on a less chaotic day.
The food here was fantastic; everything was delicious.
We also ordered the Pezza de Angioni a sa Saba (Seared Lamb Tenderloin Tagliata Sardinian Saba), and one of the specials for the day, which was a pasta with a tomato-based beef and mushroom sauce. Our plates were clean. The bread for the table was perfect for picking up any leftover sauce. We got there right as it opened, and the restaurant filled up as the time went by; the volume in the place slowly increased as we dined there. The service was decent, and our water glasses were filled on a consistent basis. I'm not sure if they added specials for the day as the night went on, but other tables seemed to be told about more than the two specials that we heard when we arrived. I would definitely return at least once more if I am back in the city, as I would like to try the Pasta Cruzza cun Arrizonis (Artisanal Fusilli Sea Urchin Tomato Cured Tuna).
This is the kind of spot tailor made for foodies.
It has a tight, very focused menu that zags from the typical Italian dishes you are likely to see on a more conventional menu. The ingredients aren't overly extensive, instead everything relies on freshness and clean flavors. Compared to some of the other well executed Italian spots in SF, this one is more rustic with its style. This is kind what I wish the typical Italian restaurant in America would be. Full disclosure, we did not try the pasta courses and went heavy on seafood. The octopus and prawn dishes were truly sublime - beautifully cooked seafood in this addictive sauce; begging your hand to keep dipping bread into. We also had the lamb which was nicely roasted and had a subtle sweet flavor. Finally we had a nice chocolate panna cota which was refreshingly not super sweet. It wasn't particularly creative as desserts go, but a nice satisfying ending to the meal.
Great and unique pasta dishes, unsual and tasty wine
Great and unique pasta dishes, unsual and tasty wine selection and wonderful warm service helped this place live up to its strong reviews. I'm only giving 3 stars from me as inside dining was not available on a cold night and I was seated at the back of the patio. NBD, but the stack of propane tanks didn't bring any sense of Sardinia whatsoever and was a bit off putting for an otherwise great meal.
Loved this quaint little restaurant.
Service was so homey and welcoming. A lady (assuming the owner) goes around making sure everyone is enjoying their experience. This restaurant has been on my bookmark for the longest time. So glad I was able to try their infamous pasta dishes. To my surprise, the stewed baby octopus was what stole the show for me. My group practically cleaned the plate on that dish. The sauce was delish! The flatbread was pricey for what it was (if I recall correctly, went in Oct 2023), but no regrets, it went well with that stewed baby octopus sauce. The pastas were a little fishy tasting for my group & I. Still glad I was able to experience this.
Average and overpriced food.
Nothing special about the food or restaurant. There are better restaurant options in San Francisco. This is my second time here and no material improvement in the food or service.
Average Food
There wasn’t anything special about the meal or experience. The food was average and nothing special. The squid appetizer was the best part of the meal. For the next course we had the pasta and lamb pasta. Both were ok and over priced for the portions. The main course were the scallops. Although they looked good it was very spicy maybe too much pepper and that was all we could taste. With a $70 bottle of wine and no dessert the bill came to over $300. Also the service was slow and expect to pour your own wine. Not something we would expect at these prices. I think there are better restaurants in San Francisco to choose from so skip this one unless you’re ok with average and uninteresting food.
The food was very tasty.
We had some of the pastas and was not disappointed. The stand out for us was the truffle gnocchi with shaved truffles on top!!!
La Ciccia can be tough to find parking around.
Its intimate ambiance, while fostering a cozy atmosphere, may leave tables feeling a tad close. The complimentary bread, though not warm, is a welcomed touch. For my appetizer, the Baby Octopus stew in a spicy Tomato Sauce offered a delightful spice level without overwhelming heat. I can't remember what I got as the first course, so that in itself says something. It was either the gnochetti or gnocchi. The Seared Market Fish was a branzino which paired so well with the Tomato, Olives, Capers, and Almonds. Our waiter recommended their most unique dessert, Fresh Ricotta Citrus Marmalade Honey, which it definitely was. It was like taking a bite out of whipped cheese. My favorite part of dinner was the dessert wine which tasted like juice, just the way I like it. Nothing really blew me away, but the service was great.
Before you judge based on the high average star rating of
Before you judge based on the high average star rating of 1K+ reviews going back to 2006, filter by 1-3 star reviews and look at recent photos of the menu to get the real story. Founders Lorella, Massimo, and key staff that made this a neighborhood gem for over 15 years - they left and many recent reviews relay negative experiences with the new owner. Yes COVID-19 did raise the price of dining out, and all restaurants prefer you buy wine from their curated list - but the portions and quality here do not merit $35+ main dishes and corkage fees of $40 first bottle, $60 second bottle. Be advised that if you buy a gift card directly from the restaurant, they will refuse to let the recipient use any of it towards server gratuity. We were so disappointed as La Ciccia used to be a romantic, charming, high quality experience but as longtime regulars we will not be returning.

Worth the trip out to Noe on the J for an excellent Sardinian meal in an intimate spot. I recommend the uni pasta, but the selection of dishes and wine is great.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
