*review for take-out experience only* A more disappointing take out experience. Pricey small-portioned pasta and mediocre bread, though the pasta would be forgivable if it weren't completely clumped together and room temp by the time I got home (I live less than 3 min away so i don't believe it was due to the travel time in between). I waited 15 min at the restaurant from time of arrival (which was the time they estimated it'd be ready), I think they are just pretty busy and perhaps shouldn't take to-go phone orders if that's the case. I ordered the uni fettuccine. I liked the uni flavor and the bit of spice, though I also think it could've used more uni (i personally enjoy seafood flavor). Maybe if it were a bit less spicy the uni flavor would stand out more, but the spice also added to the dish. I definitely haven't had anything like it; other uni pastas I've tried are on the creamy side but I enjoyed the flavor of this more in comparison. Would consider coming back to dine in person on a less chaotic day.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here was fantastic; everything was delicious.
We also ordered the Pezza de Angioni a sa Saba (Seared Lamb Tenderloin Tagliata Sardinian Saba), and one of the specials for the day, which was a pasta with a tomato-based beef and mushroom sauce. Our plates were clean. The bread for the table was perfect for picking up any leftover sauce. We got there right as it opened, and the restaurant filled up as the time went by; the volume in the place slowly increased as we dined there. The service was decent, and our water glasses were filled on a consistent basis. I'm not sure if they added specials for the day as the night went on, but other tables seemed to be told about more than the two specials that we heard when we arrived. I would definitely return at least once more if I am back in the city, as I would like to try the Pasta Cruzza cun Arrizonis (Artisanal Fusilli Sea Urchin Tomato Cured Tuna).
Be the first to ReplyThis is the kind of spot tailor made for foodies.
It has a tight, very focused menu that zags from the typical Italian dishes you are likely to see on a more conventional menu. The ingredients aren't overly extensive, instead everything relies on freshness and clean flavors. Compared to some of the other well executed Italian spots in SF, this one is more rustic with its style. This is kind what I wish the typical Italian restaurant in America would be. Full disclosure, we did not try the pasta courses and went heavy on seafood. The octopus and prawn dishes were truly sublime - beautifully cooked seafood in this addictive sauce; begging your hand to keep dipping bread into. We also had the lamb which was nicely roasted and had a subtle sweet flavor. Finally we had a nice chocolate panna cota which was refreshingly not super sweet. It wasn't particularly creative as desserts go, but a nice satisfying ending to the meal.
Be the first to ReplyGreat and unique pasta dishes, unsual and tasty wine
Great and unique pasta dishes, unsual and tasty wine selection and wonderful warm service helped this place live up to its strong reviews. I'm only giving 3 stars from me as inside dining was not available on a cold night and I was seated at the back of the patio. NBD, but the stack of propane tanks didn't bring any sense of Sardinia whatsoever and was a bit off putting for an otherwise great meal.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this quaint little restaurant.
Service was so homey and welcoming. A lady (assuming the owner) goes around making sure everyone is enjoying their experience. This restaurant has been on my bookmark for the longest time. So glad I was able to try their infamous pasta dishes. To my surprise, the stewed baby octopus was what stole the show for me. My group practically cleaned the plate on that dish. The sauce was delish! The flatbread was pricey for what it was (if I recall correctly, went in Oct 2023), but no regrets, it went well with that stewed baby octopus sauce. The pastas were a little fishy tasting for my group & I. Still glad I was able to experience this.
Be the first to ReplyAverage and overpriced food.
Nothing special about the food or restaurant. There are better restaurant options in San Francisco. This is my second time here and no material improvement in the food or service.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very tasty.
We had some of the pastas and was not disappointed. The stand out for us was the truffle gnocchi with shaved truffles on top!!!
Be the first to ReplyLa Ciccia can be tough to find parking around.
Its intimate ambiance, while fostering a cozy atmosphere, may leave tables feeling a tad close. The complimentary bread, though not warm, is a welcomed touch. For my appetizer, the Baby Octopus stew in a spicy Tomato Sauce offered a delightful spice level without overwhelming heat. I can't remember what I got as the first course, so that in itself says something. It was either the gnochetti or gnocchi. The Seared Market Fish was a branzino which paired so well with the Tomato, Olives, Capers, and Almonds. Our waiter recommended their most unique dessert, Fresh Ricotta Citrus Marmalade Honey, which it definitely was. It was like taking a bite out of whipped cheese. My favorite part of dinner was the dessert wine which tasted like juice, just the way I like it. Nothing really blew me away, but the service was great.

Before you judge based on the high average star rating of 1K+ reviews going back to 2006, filter by 1-3 star reviews and look at recent photos of the menu to get the real story. Founders Lorella, Massimo, and key staff that made this a neighborhood gem for over 15 years - they left and many recent reviews relay negative experiences with the new owner. Yes COVID-19 did raise the price of dining out, and all restaurants prefer you buy wine from their curated list - but the portions and quality here do not merit $35+ main dishes and corkage fees of $40 first bottle, $60 second bottle. Be advised that if you buy a gift card directly from the restaurant, they will refuse to let the recipient use any of it towards server gratuity. We were so disappointed as La Ciccia used to be a romantic, charming, high quality experience but as longtime regulars we will not be returning.

Worth the trip out to Noe on the J for an excellent Sardinian meal in an intimate spot. I recommend the uni pasta, but the selection of dishes and wine is great.

This is the kind of Italian place that you think of whether for a romantic date night or a cozy celebration with friends! The truffle gnocchi was everything you might want...so rich and flavorful! The flatbread with pecorino cheese was so great, light and crispy (no offense to the complimentary bread). They have some lovely wines and the espresso drinks are the quality you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. I heard that the lamb was amazing as well.

My first time dining here and wow it was delicious! The food and service impeccable! The owner Cheryl, is so welcoming and made me feel like I was entering her home! She recommended the appetizers, first course and dessert and it didn't disappoint! This was my first time trying Sardinian food from this long established SF gem! I cannot wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful staff and new owner.
I was a bit worried that with new ownership the charm that it's original owners brought into the place would be gone. But no. The food remains excellent and uniquely Sardinian. Pasta with bottarga and the flat bread are delicious. The shrimps were so tender and the sauce delicious. I'll keep coming back to this neighborhood gem. Don't miss this unique place. I truly felt like I was in Italy while dining here. My top choice for Italian food in SF.

Great Italian, and somewhat different than your run of the mill Italian restaurant. Excellent seafood in particular.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service and food with cozy vibes.
The sea urchin pasta is incredible. Would also highly recommend the octopus stew and spaghetti!
Be the first to ReplySadly, not the same as it was, and no longer worth it.
You get the same "salad mix" out of a bag with anything with greens, and the sardines are now just white sardine fillets out of a jar. Nothing special anymore, just an overpriced neighborhood place.
Be the first to ReplyWent to this place, not with high hopes, but with hopes
Went to this place, not with high hopes, but with hopes that I'd get something decent for dinner that night. Even then, I would end up disappointed with my choice. If I'm paying near $30 a dish, then it'd better be something amazing or at least something that'll fill my belly. I got neither when coming here. I got the Spaghittusu and the truffle gnocchi. The gnocchi was actually pretty good.. but then they only give you about 12 pieces(probably less) and maybe 2 spoonfuls of sauce. The Spaghittusu was just a small serving of disappointment. The sauce tasted too fishy and left a bitter aftertaste in your mouth. I don't normally mind a little bit of fishyness in my food and in fact, I love fish roe and uni pastas/udon but this one was just too much for me and my girlfriend. The bread that was given was pretty good when eaten with the truffle sauce from the gnocchi. They didn't even give any butter to go with the bread which is why we had to dip it in the gnocchi sauce and the bread wasn't even that warm when we got it. $60 for two dishes that were smaller than appetizer servings and tasted mediocre are the main reasons for this review. The server that helped me get my food was nice, and parking there can be a little difficult. The ambiance in the restaurant was pretty loud and probably wouldn't make a great date setting unless you go when it isn't crowded. The seats are pretty close together as well. Im really disappointed the food didn't live up to par with the 1000+ reviews and multiple 5 star ratings. Most likely would tell my friends to go try somewhere else if they wanted Italian food. Honestly, after writing this review, I would give it 1.5 stars instead of the two. There's no reason to be charging those prices while creating food that mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyHost went above and beyond to accommodate reservation.
Out door seatings with heated lamps. My favorite was the truffle gnocchi~ creamy soft texture. Squid ink fettuccine~rich savoryUni Fusilli~delicious Spaghetti with roe~least fave, fishy and salty Waiter ask about the untouched spaghetti. He kindly comp us the dish. Thank you for kind gesture.

I visited Sardinia a couple years ago and have been wanting to relive those memories since! This hidden restaurant gives a very cozy, authentic, no BS, and food-first vibe. The menu is unique compared to traditional Italian food. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Portion size is smaller so best to get at least one pasta/main per person + apps (which I like so we can try more food and not be stuffed with one thing). My only critique is i wish the seafood flavors are more pronounced in the pasta dishes. Reservation rec. Definitely revisiting!

Five stars for the food but the dining room is too crowded and you will be seated very close to other ppl.
Be the first to ReplyGreat local spot.
Loved: Pasta with cured fish roe- rich and al denteBurrata with Arugula - super aromaticOkay: Fusilli with sea urchin. I couldn't really taste the sea urchin, it was overpowered by the tomato sauce. Tip: the portions are big. Suggest to share the pasta or skip the main course.
Be the first to ReplySo good! Unique regional Italian food.
Really hard to get a reservation but for good reason. Can't wait to go back some day.
Be the first to ReplyVery cute place for sardinian cuisine.
Great uni pasta and fish a loved that their food was not diary creamy but all in olive oil. If you like sea food check this out. The staff is very friendly and service is good.

Pasta is their craft here, and if you're looking for authenticity, this is the place to come (forget the razzle dazzle of North Beach!). For one, the pasta was cooked perfectly. I tried their spaghetti dish which comes with spicy oil and garlic cured fish roe. When I say it was "al dente," it was literally perfect, and we didn't even have to specify. Just the right amount of bite while also not being undercooked. The sauce was well balanced and everything was fresh. We also tried the calamari appetizer, which comes with whole (!) calamari. These were very fresh, though just a tad but overcooked. We also tried the baby octopus stew, which is apparently one of their specialties. The sauce was fresh, tasty, and vibrant. The baby octopus were also very fresh. This place is not cheap ($28 for the aforementioned spaghetti dish), but they know what they are doing, and perhaps for a special occasion it is ideal. I will definitely be back!
