Sushi Ota only serves melt in your mouth sushi with speedy and stellar service.Even for lunch, there was a race to nab a table at Sushi Ota. Definitely make a reservation in advance as they had a full house and line upon opening. The parking lot out front was smaller so I would come early to find a spot. I was immediately seated and my server Rika was super fast in taking orders and refills. =ORDERED=Our drinks and miso soup arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and the remaining food came out in 10 minutes.*Green Tea: arrived boiling hot and refills were done upon request. Earthy and unsweetened.*Miso Soup: came with our meal and served as the perfect warm starter on a rainy day. Heavier on the green onion topping.=SUSHI COMBO B=According to the menu it included tuna, yellowtail, toro, whitefish, cod, albacore, salmon, scallop, salmon egg, eel and tuna roll but I noticed that the cod was swapped out for negitoro gunkan instead. This set was best for tuna lovers as those pieces were the fattiest and thickest of them all. *Tuna: cut thickly and was tender but it was a tad fishy.*Yellowtail: was oily with subtle sweetness. Would have loved for some green onion on top.*Toro: not as fatty as other pieces I have tried but had an amazing mouthfeel. Not fishy in the slightest and I would order a row of these.*Whitefish: never has been my favorite as it is typically chewier and blander. Had a similar experience although the was softer than average.*Negitoro: always love a tuna substitute although the heads up would have been nice. The scooped tuna was on the colder side but the bit of green onion and seaweed made this one of my favorites. Elevated from the standard tuna.*Albacore: came with a smidge of yuzu on top that added some citrus and fragrance. Loved how this made the piece vibrant and distinct from the others, especially when everything prior was simply fatty.*Salmon: cut on the thinner side and I wasn't as impressed by the quality in comparison to the previous pieces. Still fatty but average overall.*Scallop: pillowy texture with minimal flavor. Personally found it to be on the colder side and would have preferred it closer to room temperature. Wished the sweetness could have been enhanced with a drop of ponzu.*Salmon Egg: piled high with thick balls that oozed salty seafood flavor.*Eel: a generous cut coated in sweet unagi sauce. Had a flakey texture and some resistance when bitten into. Good towards the end since the sauce was robust.*Tuna Roll: adorable tiny maki rolls that had a greater fish ratio to rice. Since there was less rice, I enjoyed the pure tuna flavor with the seaweed wrapper. Came full circle from the simple, lean tuna. The quality of seafood was undeniable although I found the rice to be the weakest component of our meal. The rice had a propensity to crumble which ruined the overall mouthfeel. Considering the fish was so fatty, it would have been better if the rice was seasoned more. With the rising prices for sushi everywhere in SD, I found Sushi Ota to be worth the hype and reasonably priced for the quality received. Sushi Ota was very straightforward in terms of presentation but can't go wrong with well sourced and made sushi. I will definitely return for the lunch sets as I found the experience to be better than the $50+ sets elsewhere.
