🤢 2/5 - Service was terrible, rushed us through our meal, refused to split the check

5 of us had a reservation for a business lunch/get together at 11:30am. I arrived a few minutes early and, after waiting for the hostess (who never unacknowledged my presence) to finish her phone conversation, checked in. although there were no more than 4 customers in the restaurant at the time, I was told I needed to wait until all 5 were there before she would seat us. A short time later, 3 others from my group arrived. It appeared the 5th was running late as it was 11:30. I returned to the hostess and requested we be seated. She looked as if this was an unreasonable request, and reluctantly brought us to our table. Throughout our lunch, I noticed her glaring over in our direction several times. This could have been coincidence, but there was no one sitting at any of the tables behind us. Our server appeared a minute later and asked for our drink orders. She didn't seem to be in a good mood either. The 5th member of our group arrived a little late and joined us at the table. When we ordered our food, one in our group asked for a meal to go and what was the easiest way to go about that. Our server took the order and told her just to let her know when to put it in. That opportunity never occurred. The server seemed in a hurry to move our meal along, clearing plates, bringing boxes for leftovers, and never once asking if we wanted another round of drinks. I actually asked her if there was a time limit to our lunch. Much to her dismay, we asked for the dessert menu. That's what we got. ONE menu. For 5 of us. We ordered one item and split it between us. Now, I will say, the food really was decent. The portions were good sized and tasted good. Dessert was very good as well. Then came the check, AND the take out meal. The server took it upon herself to have the kitchen prepare it, rather than asking if it should be put in. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else or if we were ready for the check. We weren't asked if the bill needed to be done any particular way, it was just placed on the table as if our time was up and we needed to vacate asap. Since this was a work lunch, we requested the alcoholic beverages be on their own check. We were told no. After we questioned why, someone else came to the table and told us, in a similar tone, no, they do not split checks. At all. I've never heard of such a thing. It's not that difficult. I don't know what's up at this restaurant, but it seemed evident that everyone but the kitchen staff was miserable. They hurried us through our meal and drove us out. 5 women meeting for lunch in a restaurant at 1/4 capacity on a Thursday. As we walked out, the hostess was on the phone. My coworker made a comment that she saw no notice anywhere about a policy about splitting bills. The hostess covered the receiver on the phone and said, "it says it online when you make the reservation." Meanwhile, an older couple was waiting for the hostess to get off the phone (still). I leaned over to them and told them the service was horrible. The couple then asked if I could recommend someplace else, and I certainly did. They walked away in the direction of the place next door I told them about. The hostess then quickly hung up the phone, gave me a nasty look and went to complain to her other grouchy work friends. It's too bad. We had been looking forward to a fun, relaxed lunch at a restaurant we'd been wanting to try. Definitely won't be going back
