This was my second time dining at Son of a Gun, the first time was years ago, probably 10 years. Son of a Gun is a great LA staple restaurant and someplace I would return!I'll start with the negative, which truly was the only downside. Do not sit outside, do not request it. It is extremely lackluster and probably the worst outside dining I have ever experienced. There is no "patio" there is ONE circular table and 2 BENCHES where you will be facing the street and quite possible strain your neck trying to converse with the person next to you. They honestly should eliminate the outside "seating."Outside seating aside, the food and drinks are great. This is a pescetarian's dream for a restaurant. They do have a few meat dishes but mainly fish and seafood. I loved my tequila cocktail, I ordered the "infante." It was a refreshing jazzed up margarita, simple BUT very delicious. I also loved my trout amandine entree. This was better than the trout amandine at their sister restaurant, Petit Trois and that is a French restaurant... My friend got the fish and chips which she also enjoyed. For dessert we shared 2 scoops of ice cream. We got the bourbon crunch and the banana miso caramel. I normally would not order ice cream at a restaurant for dessert but these flavors sounded interesting and are made in house. We both did not taste any hint of miso and the banana miso caramel but did enjoy this flavor very much. The ice creams are delicious and unique. Not to sound frugal but the ice cream is $7.5 for one scoop while a pint costs $16. I highly doubt 1 scoop of ice cream is 1/2 of the pint.... $7.5 feels a little steep for 1 scoop. Generous portions which I appreciate and fairly priced. Service is good. Parking is relatively easy, meter on 3rd Street or neighborhood parking.
