Sky Garden London Reviews from The Last Year
Total tourist trap, but you still want to do it anyway!
We had a booking for Darwin's Brasserie for 6pm so were able to enter the Sky Garden earlier to enjoy the views and have a drink. Or so we thought! Not sure if we were just unlucky that day, but there were so many other "private functions" booked at the same time that we couldn't sit anywhere, couldn't go to the outside viewing bit, and were reprimanded by a surly security guard for entering an area to sit on the steps to drink our overpriced cocktail that wasn't roped off but apparently out of bounds so we found a planter box to perch on. Look, you know it's a tourist trap but you still want to do it anyway. Maybe an admission time earlier in the day wouldn't be as challenging.
Ripped off
Check your bill. Charged for bottle of wine when had a glass, charged optional service charge. Paid in dark as couldn't pay at reception ( directed back to table) . Had to go back to candle lit table so couldn't see bill paying. 15 service charge . 50 for bottle. Leaving in a hurry as thought station closing in 15 minutes so only found out on train. Couldn't go back. They not answering phone either.
Great experience for a different breakfast
Unique location with a great view over London. Breakfast at Brasserie Darwin was of very good quality, fast service and Violeta, our service lady in charge, was very nice and attentive. Great experience!
Great views
The gardens are a great way to introduce the city to people of all ages from young children to seniors at the start of a trip. Consider eating at the restaurants! Brunch at Darwin Brasserie was a favorite memory made on the trip.
After 10am for the London panorama
The reviews say to go for the early morning pre-opening to avoid crowds, but don't go until after 10am of you want photos of the panorama of London because the terrace doesn't open until then and shooting through windows and railings doesn't make for good photos. Also skip the coffee.
FOOD. HORRDNDOUS!
ON THE EVENING OF 22ND JULY I VISITED THE SKYGARDEN BAR WITH MY SON. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BIRTHDAY TREAT FOR HIM BUT IT WAS SADLY LACKING. APART FROM THE OVERPRICED FOOD AND DRINKS THE VIEW OF LONFON WAS GREAT. THE BAR FOOD MENU IS SEVERELY LACKING AND THE FOOD WHEN IT EVENTUALLY ARRIVED WAS TERRIBLE. I MEAN IT WAS REALLY REALLY BAD. I ORDERED THE CHICKEN SATAY SKEWERS WHICH WERE COLD. I COMPLAINED AND THE WAITRESS GOT ME ANOTHER PLATE WHICH WAS INEDIBLE. THE CHICKEN AGAIN WAS NOT VERY HOT, UNDERCOOKED AND TASTED AWFUL. I COULD’NT EAT ANY OF IT. THEY TOOK THE PRICE OFF THE BILL BUT I HAD HOPED FOR MUCH BETTER AND WAS SADLY LET DOWN, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE PRICE THEY CHARGE FOR SUCH TERRIBLE FOOD.
Amazing experience at the sky garden! Live music, seating
Amazing experience at the sky garden! Live music, seating but unfortunately the kitchen was closed so that was the major let down of the experience. Still beverages were good, I had a great time exploring the place. It wasn't overly packed either so the vibes were great. Some people were on the dance floor, and there's also a nice section where you can sit and eat. Would recommend for a fun date night, just not an intimate one. Also good with friends. Again just wished their kitchen was opened cause the menu looked good!
Sky Garden Bar: never again
Sky Garden Bar. Despite the exceptional location, The place was overcrowded, untidy, filthy looking. I did reserve a window table and initially was accomodate in a corner just across the steps without any protection from people hanging on my shoulders to capture pictures of the sunset while I was trying to drink a glass of champaign. Unacceptable experience.
Great viewing point
Worth a visit and best to book a ticket online about 3 weeks beforehand (free admission) although you don’t need to book beforehand, but the ticket side of the queue went down quicker. The views over the city are amazing, the bars had quite a queue to them if you don’t mind waiting a bit. Only downside was not enough information about the buildings you are looking at (unless you already know)
Had to stop here, we were lucky the line wasn't long so
Had to stop here, we were lucky the line wasn't long so went through security and went up the elevator. Amazing views from the top which can see all of london. Lounges and restaurant area up top too, great spot to chill out at
It was free, so I can't really complain much.
My group of 8 stumbled to the Sky Garden entrance right as they were allowing people without reservations to enter (lucky us!). It wasn't way too crowded getting in, although it still took maybe 10 minutes to get to the top. The views are incredible, and the garden itself was a nice touch. We ended up getting some drinks and we found a table to hang out for an hour or so. It was very packed. Given, we were there on a Saturday afternoon, but it was still teeming with tourists. It wouldn't have been so bad except 1) the line for the bathroom was long and the other bathroom was in service the entire time we were there. And 2) the line for the bar took forever-- I think it took us 30 minutes to get our drinks. And the other bar further upstairs had two bartenders but they were somehow closed, which meant we had to wait in line at the bigger bar downstairs. Long story short, I'm very glad we went, but don't expect to have a luxury or intimate experience because everyone else in London might have the same idea to visit at the same time.
This place is very nice to see but getting in and out is a
This place is very nice to see but getting in and out is a nightmare, even if you have reservations. The elevators are small so the lines take forever. It is fine going up because you have the anticipation of seeing skygarden, but when you're trying to leave all of the fun is ruined with the insanely long line. Skygarden is a pretty remarkable place in itself. They also have several restaurants and bars on the top floor with very good offerings but also some of the most expensive food I have seen in London.
Amazing views of the Tower of London, TowerBridge, River
Amazing views of the Tower of London, TowerBridge, River Thames, London Bridge, Shard, etc. The inside room was like being inside a greenhouse. It's beautiful. You can walk around the perimeter and climb the stairs up. There's another cafe on the very top. Servers were really friendly at the cafe as you get in the Sky Garden. We had a delicious breakfast sandwich. We came early enough that they were still accepting walk ins. Highly recommend!
I would never recommend anyone to come here first off.
My experience is based off of the pre purchase cocktail and small plates ticket you can reserve ahead of time for 43pounds each so roughly 130 for 3 people.. Our reservation was at 9pm and we arrived at 8:50pm and was promptly seated after going through TSA level security. We sat down and our waiter didn't attend to us after about 15 mins of waiting. When we were finally prompted and greeted we each chose a drink from the menu which only had about 5 options. Waited another 15 mins before we got our drink. Drinks were either spritzer cocktails or a champagne. Our drink came and then we never saw our waiter again, after about another 30 mins and our glasses empty we had to beg another waiter to take our order as everyone seemed to forget about our table as if they made ignoring us a priority. Other tables received normal service around us to make a comparison, as visually you can see the difference in attention they receive. When we were finally able to order our small plates it took them about another 30 mins to make cold plates which were nothing complex like salads, and pre made items. We received our plates and once again became non existent. We were never served water. Never asked how anything was or if we would like another drink. I ended up just walking away because at 130 lbs you expect a level of service that wasn't even meet with the most basic of human service. We spent so much time waiting and being ignored that nothing was enjoyable not even the view. It's not hard to serve cold pre made small plates that are not complex. If you're looking to pay for people to ignore you for 43lbs a person this is the place to come to. I wouldn't even come here for free or even if someone paid me too. You can get better service and food at the pretz mark downstairs. Keep in mind we were informed service would be stopped at 10:30pm. If you didn't want to serve us it would have been nice to tell us that upfront instead of keeping us waiting for more then an hour so we wouldn't be able to order anything extra from the 8 items available.
It's a public garden but you have to book ticket for free
It's a public garden but you have to book ticket for free entry in advance. Public tickets are valid for 1 hour from the booking time. Tickets are released on every Monday up to 3 weeks in advance. They do accept free walk in during public hour, but when I was there they denied people without tickets since there was no more space. We arrived about 15 minutes before our booking time at 15:30. The line to get inside was already very long. People with the 3pm ticket still waited to get inside. I noticed people without tickets were queued in the same line with people with tickets even though there was a sign clearly showing how the queue works. I don't think they have a good system to manage the queue. Security was similar like in the airport. They advised to bring ID or passport but nobody checked us. After security, we took a lift to 35th floor. It was raining all day in London, so the view wasn't breathtaking. Terrace was also closed due to inclement weather. There are also many steps inside so it's not ideal for the elders or people with babies/ strollers. I love plants so I was excited to see what Sky Garden offers. But I was so disappointed seeing the plants here. It was so far behind from Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. I don't think Sky Garden was impressive like others reviews said. I was glad that I didn't book a table for dining here. We left after 15 minutes ....I don't see Sky Garden as a MUST place to visit in London. You can totally skip it.
Not a fan of spending money on tourist attractions but this
Not a fan of spending money on tourist attractions but this was for sure worth it. Came at night and got to see 360 degrees around of London. Feels like you're floating above London as its all glass no walls to disrupt the view. a little costly but well worth it as it comes with champagne. Multi level so you can walk around and see all the city. Highly recommend buying tickets in advance as its usually required and often fully booked for days.
The views are great.
..the drinks are not. Came here on a late Friday night...the overall vibe is beautiful. Would I come here again? Maybe if I'm with friends who have never been. Would I recommend coming here while you're on vacation? Sure. But don't be heartbroken if you can't get in. (Free tickets sell out fast and tables book somewhat quickly) there are better drink places and you'll see the skyline with other touristy things you do. It's a little too pricey for what you're getting. (Except the truffle cheese...that was awesome and bumped up my rating a bit)
Buy your ticket ahead of time as it sells out.
Beautiful indoor space with amazing 360 views of the city! Early morning is best. All pasties are mixed together so if you have an allergy you will have to skip the treats as I did.
Nice view
Nice view, you good see over London. Nice place to drink coffee and just enjoy view and the athmospere. Not something to spend all day but for a visit ok.
Couldn't get free tickets to view so had to pay for a meal.
Amazing views but you pay for it if you get a Darwin reservation. The prices were not in comparison to other high end "high top" restaurants I have dined in -CN Tower, Marriott over Niagara Falls. Yes, you pay extra for the elevator up and view but there should be adequate food on the plate for the price. They asked if it was a special occasion and I said yes big anniversary yet the waiter forgot at the end. He did bring a dessert plate made up with happy anniversary once I mentioned it. I asked if we could sit at the window seat that came available next to us but they said no, so our table view was inset somewhat. We were free to wander afterwards so walked around 3+ hrs there from 4:30pm (only avail time) to around 7pm. Seeing the sunset was worth it. You are free to do a 360 wander after dinner and take in the views/DJ music and bar. The patio was closed as it was Oct. I got some great photos so that was worth it to me. As per other comments, I was not able to find free tickets. I think they prefer making money off the dining reservations. 1 star off the rating for not having free tickets available.
Good views poor food in restaurant
Amazing views and free! Only the queues to contend with as only 2 limited capacity lifts. We booked restaurant so avoided a long long queue. Food in restaurant did not live up to expectations. Very good staff but menu choices very limited. Chose the sea bass which was overcooked in a very very sweet tomatoe sauce. 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 bottle of lower priced wine[(£54), total bill an eye watering £230!!. We want to a Slug & Lettuce for a tapas type lunch with 2 drinks for £45. The food was better than the Sky Garden by far. We should have known better.
Room with a view
It was a great day out 50 friends very well organised all check in they ask for ID very secure when you get up to the top it’s sites that would take a few days to walk round but from up here you see it all.
Sky High Dining
Amazing views even on a very dull day, we escaped the lousy weather and were able to prop up the bar at the Darwin while we waited for our table. Great meal lovely atmosphere and a shout out to Alin who could hardly have been nicer, apologised as his shift was coming to an end, but he was around for at least another half hour. Dedicated.
Amazing viewpoint
Well worth the queues - make sure you book in advance. The place was busy yet we experienced no negative vibes that some poor reviews on here led us to believe would spoil our visit.
Unusable online booking system DOES NOT WORK
The biggest mount system for tickets is unusable and not fit for purpose. It impossible to book tickets. You will be requested number of tickets, and advised that a date and time is required. But it is IMPOSSIBLE to add or select a date or time. I tried on Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Microsoft Edge on both a desktop PC and my iPhone and no ability to select a date. If this is because the dates are fully booked out, then why can’t the website simply say so? Checking the Internet and MANY people have the same issue.
There are 2 sides of the bar and they don't tell you where
There are 2 sides of the bar and they don't tell you where you're going to be seated until you get there. Unfortunately for us, along with the other half of the people who were there, got seated on the bar with NO view. We had to walk around and stand to see the view on the regular side.
Tough to give this only 3 stars.
Had high hopes. We travelled 1/2 way around the globe to London and booked our seating months in advance for this spot. The views are stunning and worth it. The food options, drink menu and overall ambiance however, were lackluster and like most tourist spots, over priced. Super noisy, staff shortages that slow down service. Operated more like a cruise. Disappointing. A place you visit once and are unlikely to return.
We were in town during Halloween & found this place pretty
We were in town during Halloween & found this place pretty last minute as an option for something to do that holiday weekend. We got our tickets online, it came w a drink ticket not bad helped with the price of the ticket. Drinks we had Spoiled Apple & Blood Drive both were part of the night specials they were not bad but a bit on the sweet side. Later on switched to the Local beers, they were better. This place is pretty cool, my main reason for the high rating is the incredible views all around. Very big venue, they also have a restaurant & upstairs bar area. Nice size location, with some seating areas, it was decorated very cool for the night. Music was not bad, would love to check this place out on my next London visit we had a fun night since it was Halloween weekend.
First off this place is more "sky" than "garden".
If you've been to indoor gardens the like of the "Spheres" in Seattle, you should not expect an indoor jungle here. It is more about the views, but the views are unparalleled. This place is quite popular as you might imagine, especially given that you can experience it for free (if you reserve a ticket in advance online). If not, you can always book a table at one of the restaurants on the same level as the Garden and combine it with the visit to the observation deck (be prepared to pay more for the views than the food/experience you are getting). On a cold and windy day, you can stay inside and still see most of London. Or grab a jacket and venture to the outside deck. All in all, worth a stop. Having done both the Sky Garden and the London Eye, I would say, this is a solid alternative to the latter.
We like free!! The reality is that in a city that charges
We like free!! The reality is that in a city that charges for most everything, free is excellent. Even more excellent when it entails a beautiful lush garden in the sky with expansive views of the city and places to relax, sit and enjoy a drink (or even a meal). The trick here is that you have to have a reservation and you've got to be on top of it. Reservations come out three weeks in advance and they can snatched up quickly! Don't be the people who show up with high hopes of heading up only to have their dreams quickly shattered. The process to go up to the top is lengthy with security measures in place. If you're in a rush, be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your ticketing time frame so that you have enough time to explore. It honestly didn't take us long to walk around and observe, but we could have stayed longer if we wanted to grab a drink or relax. We went on a rainy day, but even through the clouds it was beautiful! Check out the time of sunset for the best chance at a great view.
Hard to get a free ticket since it is always sold out.
I recommend booking at table at larch then you get a pass to go up to tbe sky garden. It is stunning at night. They do however close the doors to tbe outdoor viewing at 6pm.
Was unable to make reservation for Sky Garden so made
Was unable to make reservation for Sky Garden so made reservation at Darwin Brasserie. We were able to see and walk thru Sky Garden while taking the views of London. Really nice and beautiful with some photo worthy spots.
We tried to book an afternoon visit but was full.
Scheduled evening drinks and loved it. Danced to the band. Celebrated our engagement at the best table in London.
Sky Gardens was phenomenal! We made 9:30pm reservations.
When you arrive you go through security & then head to the elevator and up to the 35th floor . The ambiance is breathtaking & it's pretty cold inside and it was also cold outside. They had live music and the decorations were Christmas. The seats had heaters on them and I loved that. Sky Garden is London's highest public garden - a vibrant social space with 360-degree views of the city's iconic skyline and the view is beautiful. We started with drinks. I ordered the Winter Spiced Espresso martini & Berry Crumble . We got cheddar bites for a food snack. They were like fried cheese chips pretty tasty. I then ordered a virgin winter warmer drink . It was basically a hot apple juice. They brought me out a Happy Birthday dessert. We went up the stairs took some pics of the Amazing view before leaving . We stayed there almost 2 hrs. I would definitely recommend this spot for the night view and vibes.
I would have given five stars just for the views.
We were left with very bad taste by folks doing security. They didn't guide us or any one be else for anything and when we were trying to wrap up and quickly and move they pointed out mistakes on how not to wrap up. Plus the security guys were doing hidden signs and snickering as if English is not our first language. Please help investigate so that folks who like the original thought and restaurant are not driven away to other building like the shard which I have given 5 star to!
