Shuka New York Reviews from The Last Year
Shuka has a very nice space inside with lots of seating but
Shuka has a very nice space inside with lots of seating but not too close and it doesn't get too loud. The service was attentive but gave you space. Delicious and interesting cocktails. The food was also delicious and came out as it was made which I personally like. Portions don't look like a lot but will fill you up. I split a dip and two mezze items, we both left satisfied.
Chicken and Arctic Char Kebabs: Quite salty.
Sauce is good. Baba Ganoush: Decent. Crispy Squash Blossoms: Very over-fried, dark, flavorless, and too hard to eat. We returned this dish. Mint Tea - ok! Overall, we had high hopes for Shuka, but the service and food fell short of expectations. Not worth visiting again.
Like Mediterranean Tapas!
My husband and I went here for dinner and had the best experience. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. We had a full meal of shared dips and appetizers. The falafel and the labneh were especially good. And the baklava ice cream was so unique!
Great Mediterranean food good service good vibe definitely
Great Mediterranean food good service good vibe definitely recommend coming again. Great area.
A trendy spot for Mediterranean eats tucked into the West
A trendy spot for Mediterranean eats tucked into the West Village -- I'm obsessed with this spot. The ambiance is really nice and we were seated in a bright, airy space. The servers were attentive, friendly and made great recommendations. The menu has a ton of small plates that are perfect for sharing -- I appreciated that they had a lot of vegetarian options. Every single thing I had here was delicious but my standouts were the Whipped Feta and Fried Halloumi. I'll be back soon to work my way through all of the dips!
This place continues to be a home run.
Honestly, I've been coming for years and it just consistently delivers. I love love love the vibe here. It's beautiful while not being stuffy. The airy back garden feeling terrace is my fav place to sit. It's perfect for lunch but becomes perfectly moody by evening. The food is a vibrant rainbow with each dish. I honestly am floored by the dishes and how they are a spectacle of themselves. All are insanely fresh. That fried halloumi should be illegal. I love all the kebabs and dips. The pita is stellar. Such a solid place time and time again. Cannot wait for another meal there.
Overall we had a nice brunch at Shuka.
The fried halloumi was spectacular - 100% recommend as a starter. My friend ordered the green shashuka, which she enjoyed but we were surprised that it didn't come with any side pita or bread (especially for the price). My other friend got the chicken shawarma, which was quite a small portion for the price too. The service was extremely friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was very beautiful and nice for a cute gathering. Overall would go again but would be mindful about what to order.
The food was very good.
We had fattoush salad that came w/ fried halloumi cheese. It was not your ordinary fattoush salad, but it was very. good. We also had whipped feta w/ pistachios. It was out of this world! The zucchini fritters are so good and light. We of coarse had the baba ghanoush & hummus. We had the kabobs of all kinds came to the table w/ salad underneath them and pita bread. It was so so good. The drinks were out of this world: the cucumber vodka drink, I had 3 of them, so refreshing. Others had the yogurt drink w/ cucumbers also alcoholic. They were also very good. The server was awesome! The ambiance was amazing. We were very loud but no one seemed to mind.
Love Mediterranean and this place hit it on the nose!
Love Mediterranean and this place hit it on the nose! chicken kebab plate there was nothing to dislike. Half pita v yum and fluffffy and chicken skewer so flavorful and succulent:) also came w yum Greek salad tho a bit too much endives but that could be j me? Fun fairy light ambience and perfect for date, honestly good amt of food for me but if u are more need to get appetizers I think would be smart?

We had the pistacho feta, falafel, chicken shawarma, and zucchini/squash blossom and all were absolutely divine! The squash blossom was probably our favorite. The service was also great and it was a super cute spot! This place was recommended by a friend as one of her favorite places in nyc and even with high expectations, it did not disappoint at all! But be warned that you need a reservation pretty far in advance for dinner- we made one 4 days ahead of time and still could only eat at 5pm or 9:30pm. But its popularity is definitely well deserved!

The Shakshuka is a little bit salty for me, which over covers the fragrance of tomato. Salad is good for adding vegetables to the meal We also ordered the Turkish cold brew which is very good
Israel Name / Not Israeli Food
service is good, but if you looking for israeli/mediterranean food you should go elsewhere. This is the chefs take on classic plates, I understand she wants to give it a twist but she should familiarize herself more with the food and culture. the tunisian sandwich was just an american egg salad that looked exotic because she used turmeric! not recommended! and for the shawarma she got existed and used all the condiments in her cupboard and let me tell you, it wasnt a good combination. The fatush salad was just an average salad, very nice plated but nothing good!
Excellent restaurant- not to be missed
Excellent food and great service from Sarah. We had the dips and kebab, salad and chicken shawarma- all amazing. We also enjoyed the olive oil cake. Great ambience. You definitely need to reserve in advance.
Disappointing Brunch Experience at Shuka
Came to Shuka for the second time and had an incredibly disappointing experience. I had been for dinner before and enjoyed it, so I went back for brunch but would not return in the future. I ordered the shakshuka and found a hair in my food. Although this was somewhat disgusting, it does happen occasionally but I was really disappointed in how it was handled by the restaurant. I told one waitress, who promptly took the plate away without so much as an apology. Then another staff member came over and apologized and said she was going to bring me another meal. She asked if I wanted anything in the meantime, which I declined. I then waited approximately 20 minutes for them to bring out my food, at which point all of the rest of the people in my group had already finished their meals. I felt that the staff should have been more honest about how long it would take to get the replacement, because if I knew it was going to take so long, I might not have wanted another one. Then once I finally got the second meal, the eggs in the shakshuka were completely undercooked, and really not safe for consumption. The restaurant did remove my meal from the bill and also brought out a dessert on the house, however they only brought out one dessert and 8 forks since I was in a group of 8. I felt that since my food fiasco delayed everyone’s meal, they could have at least given us a second dessert so everyone could try. Overall, I was sorely disappointed and will not be returning.
Delicious Mediterranean food! and terrific service! We
Delicious Mediterranean food! and terrific service! We loved the shak-shak, chicken shawarma, fried halloumi, and baklava cinnamon bun! My personal must have is the fried halloumi! Our waiter was super helpful! and more than willing, to walk us through popular items, Definitely will be returning!
We loved this place - It was vegetarian-friendly.
The service was quick too. We got a table outside and even though it was a chilly evening the parklets were warm and cozy. We liked: - crispy baby artichokes - whipped feta - labneh - carrots we didn't like - falafel (over fried) but the sauce was great - manouche (spinach made it soggy) - cheese boureka We'll definitely be back to try the rest of the items.
Went here for lunch the other day, and as always Shuka
Went here for lunch the other day, and as always Shuka delivers. Our favorites are the Mediterranean plate which has many strange little pickled root vegetables with of course, the customary falafel, humus , etc, and the Fattoush salad, which comes with cubes of deep fried halloumi. I'm personally not able to eat more than a couple cubes of the deep fry, but I noticed diners near us quite enjoying a full plate of these fried cubes, so that's definitely an option. It seems to be quite the date spot, we were surrounded by young couples, but be warned, it's loud and bustling, so not a quiet romantic vibe. Lots of egg dishes in the mains which we avoided but if you're in the shakshuka crowd there's lots of possibilities. It would be nice if they had something that was not egg based. They used to have an excellent maitake mushroom dish which they've done away with on the lunch menu. Oh well. Service, ambiance gets a tick from me.
Thoroughly enjoyed the flavors and colors and sophisticated
Thoroughly enjoyed the flavors and colors and sophisticated vibe of this Mediterranean restaurant. We ordered a variety of the items and were very pleased with our selections, favorite being the roasted cauliflower with tahini and pistachios. Recommend.
Food was decent but I've called them 3 times this week and
Food was decent but I've called them 3 times this week and even spoke with the manager about getting my receipt. I was told it'll be sent next day but I still haven't received it and now it can't be expensed. Thanks Shuka!
The food is fantastic! Loved the labne and Mediterranean
The food is fantastic! Loved the labne and Mediterranean plate. The indoors are cozy and very tastefully, decorated. Love the frosted string lights. The staff was very attentive!
Shuka was #14 on "The 19 Best Healthy Restaurants in NYC"
Shuka was #14 on "The 19 Best Healthy Restaurants in NYC" on cozymeal - Why did I choose this spot? I wanted flavor, rice, chicken, zero proof drinks, a nice ambiance, and easy get to. This was the only place that checked off every box. Flying solo, I sat at the bar. Guillermo, my bartender, was so lovely. The staff had such great relationships with each other. Working in foodservice for 14 years, you pay attention to much more than a non foodservice patron. This has now become one of my favorite restaurant. I got the Chicken Kabob and Mediterranean rice along with a non alcoholic golden ale. I highly recommend going to Shuka for a great experience.
Wow, just amazing.
5 couples in our early 40s, one local couple hosting 8 North Carolinians. This was the most amazing eastern Mediterranean food I've ever had. To make things easy with 10 different people, we ordered The Feast for our table and it was phenomenal. The servers were awesome, amazing service. The apps it came with were amazing... the beet hummus or dip was ridiculous. The pitas were awesome. The kebabs and everything, it was just perfect. This is not bland food for the masses, it is made and served with passion. Will definitely return!
I am in LOVE.
Was able to grab a late dinner reservation here on a Saturday night. When you enter the ambiance immediately is cozy with intimate lighting. The interior is deceivingly large despite the outside appearance. They also have seating outside, but for the full experience would 1000% recommend making a reservation ahead of time. We had the fattoush salad which was perfectly well balanced. The fries were well seasoned and a great side to complement our other dishes. The star of the show was without a doubt the chicken shawarma. The flavor was perfect and it wasn't very greasy - can definitely taste the sumac, cinnamon, and other Mediterranean spices. Interestingly enough, the restaurant owner is Indonesian and Italian. She recently opened another restaurant and I am excited to try it out! Dinner at Shuka was such a wonderful experience. I can't wait to come back with friends!
Came here for late lunch, really gorgeous looking
Came here for late lunch, really gorgeous looking restaurant. Shuka is the sister restaurant Shukette (much harder to get rezzies at Shukette) so we wanted to check this out. We got seated immediately with last minute reservations. We ordered their whipped pistachio labneh and their hummus - both really good. The pita was light and fluffy. The falafel was so delicious as well - savory, crispy and light. We saved appetite for a large dessert - we ordered the turkish coffee ice cream and the olive oil cake. The turkish coffee was delicious- tasted really strong, the accompanying chocolate ganache was so good. The olive oil cake was good but not our favorite. Would love to come back to try out their other vegetarian options
Nice atmosphere
Restaurant with nice atmosphere. Good selection of different type of dishes. Quality, in my opinion, is good enought but a bit pricy.
Worth the wait!
Food was delicious. Service was attentive, from the hostess, to the bartender, to the wait staff. Very nice ambience as well. Would hardly recommend making reservations well ahead of time. We tried the day before and it was all booked. For a Monday night! Luckily they do take walk ins. Just be prepared to wait. They told us an hour. We were seated in 40’. Worth the wait.
Great Food!
Great food, lots of choices. Very attentive servers. Restaurant seems to always be busy so make a reservation.
