RUKA Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing ambiance, food and cocktails.
Went for my birthday. First time visiting Boston. Went to a lot of top tier restaurants during this trip and this one was one of the best.
The sushi rolls are by far my favorite thing on the menu.
Truly a foodie's paradise. It's hard to find Peruvian fusion sushi rolls and this place hit the spot. Very cool decor too! Insta-worthy!

If you're reading this and you ate at a two-spot on 7/16 around 6pm, admired our cheese sticks, and wished you could have shared our Big Fish sundae with us (incredibly delicious) we regret having to hop quickly and wish we could have been friends!! So maybe you're on Yelp?! Fingers crossed! The tea service was outstanding and a great value, sesame noodles cool and crunchy, ambiance lovely and vibrant, rainbow roll delicious, especially the shisho leaf and Asian pear, and the hamachi ceviche was seriously the best I've ever had. The coconut rice was flawless!
Really liked the aesthetic of the place itself.
It's a dim and it's giving mystical. Haha We walked in and the host asked if we had a reservation which we didn't but they were still able to accommodate my 6 person party. I'm guessing by that question that there are times where if you do not have a reservation you'll either be waiting a long time. Moving on to the server it was my first time there and he was very thorough when asked about the menu and the restaurant. The food was delicious, we went there for sushi, they have a list of sushi rolls that they make but they are not your common rolls. Definitely outside the box and delicious. We overall had a good time. A nice place to have a date for sure.
This place has a "tapas" style menu.
I'd say 5 plates for 2 people is a pretty good start, which is what our waiter recommended. The portions and price are good for Boston. I've seen worse. My favorite is the ceviche dish. I'd come back just to order 3 plates of that for myself. Recommend bringing a jacket since it's a little chilly inside. Drinks are alright, service is friendly. Good spot for date night once in a while!

I have been eying this place for such a long time and I'm so glad I finally made a reservation! First, the restaurant itself is located in a pretty fun area (right near Chinatown). The interior is funky - there are so many textures and colors and it feels like the kind of place you want to go to when you want to catch up with your friends. Our server was very attentive! We asked for recommendations and he did not steer us wrong. Our favorite was the ceviche, but we also got the tako mechi (the octopus thing), the vat bottom girl sushi roll (or something like that), and I think the Japanese fried chicken. Portion sizes were good! The cherry on top of this sundae was the Big Fish dessert. IT WAS HUGE, but very much worth it. We shared the dessert and I had a hot espresso and it was *chef's kiss* - exactly what I needed. I'll have to come back to try the drinks next time!
Food: Well portions and great flavor combinations.
My favorite was the Japanese fried chicken, just enough crispiness and flavor where it was sweet tangy added with the spicy mayo sauce on the side was just perfect. Each of the sushi presented its own combination, where texture and flavor sat really nice. Oh though some weren't quite my favorite palette, I can appreciate the thought behind trying to fuse something that's more original. The yuzo lobster had a citrus taste to it which can't throw off a bit of the lobster since it's rather aquatic, but it's interesting. The Hawaiian roll comes with a premium soy sauce, which you can't tell the difference between regular, but it adds a perfect touch to what's sweet and then add a pinch of salt Service: We sat at the bar and the service was great, they all made sure we had water filled. They made sure that we had everything we needed for our food. It's rather calm service Ambiance: It's a great place to have a birthday or hang out during the night. They don't have any TVs so you can't really watch the game but you can appreciate the decorum that's going on around this Asian fusion restaurant. It's rather spacious and there's definitely plenty of seats to dine in when its not busy Location accommodation: right near Boston commons, it's rather walkable near other restaurants, restaurants and businesses. On the outside it's really pretty but walking around certain parts. The streets can be a little tough as the roads weren't build for big vehicles around, but people still try to squeeze in
Food, drinks, everything was soooooo good.
I'm a vegetarian and found plenty of delicious options full of flavor. Definitely recommend.
We visited Ruka on Saturday.
We had reservations but decided to sit at the bar. The bar is always the best IMO We had a wonderful bartender/server named Lucas. he knew the menu inside and out. My boyfriend and I had lots of questions about the food, but Lucas never seemed annoyed by this. He has only worked for the restaurant for three months, but it seemed like he had been there for a lot longer, just with the professional, warm and engaging way he communicated with both customers and co-workers alike The cocktails and food were really excellent. Serving sizes are tapas and meant to be shared. Prices are pretty reasonable for Boston. We'll be back!
RUKA is so cool.
The vibe is fantastic but the food is what really steals the show. The fried chicken was spectacular. The ceviche was amazing. All 4 of the rolls we tried were outstanding.
what a crappy service
actually we are here at the Godfrey (#408, 409). We are a family with 3 Kids (17,12,4). Today was a rainy day, so we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. So we sent our eldest daughter to ask for gluten-free options and to do a reservation at the restaurant. The answer was gf is possible and we don´t need a reservation. 1,5 hours later we arrived at the restaurant but they had no table for us. A family with 3 kids and a coeliac disease. The service was: we can give you a recommendation you can go to... what a crappy service for this nice hotel! Sending a family out in the rain, not searching for a solution, just out with them, no trouble, no work! The bored guy at the reception also had no idea of customers service. Thank you for nothing! We won´t come back!

Have never been to an Asian-Peruvian fusion place so was excited for some bold/different flavors - unfortunately, the dishes were largely just kind of modern Japanese which was fine and decent, just not the level we were expecting.

Did my research with a bunch of other yelp reviews and so glad I did!! All these dishes are a must try! Lovedddd the Japanese fried chicken and ceviche. Each of the dishes we got were so unique and different in flavor! Not necessarily dishes that pair well together, but are a great mix of flavor loved getting different bites of them every time. We loved our waiter! Sad we didn't get his name (but he's from NJ and has been serving for about a year at the restaurant)! Huge shoutout to him, even brought out our dessert in this crazy bowl set up! Made our night, excited to come back again and would want to try out their cocktails too! Great spot for date night or dinner catch up with friends.

It's a really trendy restaurant; apparently this is an Asian Peruvian fusion restaurant, but outside of the chicha drink, the food seems more Asian. However, the food still is pretty great. I sat at the bar, and the service was nice. I ordered the lychee cocktail, spicy tuna roll, the ceviche, and the white black thunder. Everything was pretty good - outside of the white black thunder - nothing stood out. But it's a solid place to eat at
The ambience was cute and lively.
Our server was also friendly, but be careful since they will ask "still or sparkling water" so make sure you ask for tap unless you want to be charged $8 for some water... In terms of the food, I think you will be wow-ed if you don't go in with very high expectations. The yakitori bar shrooms were fresh and tasty, and my favorite plate from the night. I don't know why the sesame noodles are named that, because it tasted like chilled peanut noodles with an annoying onion crunch. The wok choy did not deliver the "ginger-lime" flavor. Instead, it was very salty like soy sauce + oyster sauce and did not mix well with the dollops of rocoto cream. Overall slightly disappointed with the food, but I do want come back here to try their makimoni items and their pork yakisoba.
Nice ambiance and pretty dishes, but the pros stop there.
We were excited for the Asian-Peruvian fusion aspect, but the dishes seemed to be largely Asian with a tiny Peruvian tweak in the form of a condiment or topping. The service was also slow and rather unhelpful with answering questions about the menu--I'd expect much better at this price point. That was disappointing, but the food itself was notably poor as well. Out of the 6 dishes out table ordered, we only liked one (Sichuan Zoodle Bowl). For a fusion restobar, the flavors were not very complex, interesting, or well thought out. For example, my pork yakisoba was oversauced and leaned far too sweet and ketchupy, with no savory, spicy, or sour notes to balance it out. It struck me as the type of dish I'd make from an instant packet at home on a lazy day--technically yakisoba, but with no professional cooking finesse. Additionally, it's listed as having braised pork (kakuni) on top, but instead had very thin crispy slices of what was essentially bacon. Overall the experience was middling at best. You can easily get the same food or far better for less money and larger quantities.

Set a whole new standard for a good restaurant! Our waiter, Chris, was gold and had wonderful recommendations. Place itself was super cool, had lots of interesting architecture and designs. Food was great, we couldn't stop ordering.

Everything was great! The cocktails and food are so unique and none of them miss. Frankie our waiter was a blast.

Second time here and the second time was just as good as the first! We walked in on a busy Saturday night and were told it would be an hour and 15 min wait to sit at the bar (no tables were available for the night). Remembering how amazing the drinks and food were the first time, I told my husband it'll be worth the wait. By the grace of baby Jesus two spots appeared at the bar after waiting just 20 min!!! The bartenders are super friendly, our food (Mongolian beef, crab cali, rock shrimp, ruka rainbow, wasabi yucca puff thingy) and drinks (Gojira and Ají Alegre) were all incredibly tasty. Can't wait to return.
Loved the ambience.
The waiter wasn't super friendly but I don't need a friend. He was fast attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
The food combinations were out of this world.
We have the puff yucca, fried octopus and a few different tapas plates and each were better then the other. The music was also A+, it definitely gave it a very cool and modern vibe. Definitely recommend it to anyone trying to eat something different.
Bryce was the absolute best waiter we have had in so long
Bryce was the absolute best waiter we have had in so long and I'm so glad I trusted my boyfriend's birthday in his hands. He single-handedly seems to manage half of the entire restaurant and we literally ordered nothing but his recommendations and fell in love with each and every dish that was so unique. I wish I could give Bryce six instead of just five stars because he broke the scale, worked so effortlessly, was incredibly welcoming, and understood every ingredient and recommended impeccable desserts. He remembered the perfect time to refill our waters and is an amazing representative of this restaurant. We wondered if we should start a birthday tradition here because of Bryce. He deserves a raise!
Eat here!
Every single bite of food here was delicious! We ordered a variety of items ceviche, zucchini noodles, cheese sticks, mushrooms, squid, chicken fried rice and Mongolian beef. All incredibly good. The cheese sticks were a wonder, I could have eaten a huge bowl of just the ceviche and bite after bite we loved it all. The cocktails are inventive and I can heartily recommend the Peruvian inspired sangria. Our waiter was excellent providing suggestions and was around when we needed her. Look forward to our next visit to Boston and dining here!
Pleasantly surprised
Came in a little late on our flight from San Francisco and were staying at the Godfrey. So happy we planed to eat at RUKA. We only chose it for convenience. Wow, were we surprised. The food was excellent.
Yummy
Excellent! I sat at the bar and service was friendly and efficient and helpful. Delicious cocktails and food menu is inventive. Small dishes that are a great fusion. Bartenders provide excellent suggestions on favorite items. Definitely a return for me.
I have had better
This place is mediocre and doesn't live up to the hype that once created when it first opened. I was greeted by what who looked to be the manager on duty who looked like chaos, frantic, and was wearing a crop top showing her stomach (presentation at an evening "trendy" place is key). The waiter never introduced himself with his name. The food was subpar; they are ripping people off with their steak tartare which comes serve as a sandwich, with minimal steak and a load of onions on top. The sushi was ok, and the drink was also ok. I wouldn't recommend or return myself, again. For better service, quality of food, and presentation I can think of various other places in this city.
Peruvian-Japanese food and cocktails
Ruka Restobar is where you go to for Nikkei cuisine in Boston. Expect a delicious blend of Peruvian and Japanese ingredients. Everything we’ve tried so far was good. Must try: chilled peanut noodles. It’s satay-ish but a different experience as chilled noodles with a bit of heat in a creamy sauce. So good! Pro Tip: if you don’t have reservations, pop in and add your name to the bar tender’s waitlist. And note: the left bar is THE bar (first come first serve based on the bar tenders list) and the right side is a bar but for those with reservations HAMACHI AMARILLO Spicy tuna, quinoa, avocado, grilled peppers, cucumber, acevichado sauce NASU DRAGON Panko fried eggplant, roasted peppers, avocado, shiso chimichurri, aji verde, sesame oil CRISPY ROCK SHRIMP Pickled pineapple, avocado, soy paper, aji amarillo mayo, florida rock shrimp SPICY PEANUT NOODLES Sun-dried noodles, peanut butter miso, crispy ginger, sour peanuts GOJIRA Gin, melon, lime, shiso, sake AJI ALEGRE Tequila, passionfruit, aji amarillo, bitter orange, lime
