Disappointing given the rave reviews
Atmosphere lacking - what are all these reviews talking about a great atmosphere? Restaurant is set in an old mansion, you’re placed in one of a number of small rooms, we were in one with maybe 5 tables, very quiet and boring. Service was fine, reserved, and definitely not overly helpful . Drinks selection- wine list by the glass limited, and at over $20USD I expect the wine to be better. Food wise, we had the beet salad, tasted fine but is it exceptional or different in some way? Nope. Fish ceviche was nice. Bread with a special butter I would skip. For entrees, we had the vegetable risotto, flat iron steak, short ribs and the salt fish. All were fine, but again, nothing outstanding or exceptional, best was probably the fish. I would not come back or recommend this to my friends given the number of options in CDMX.
Be the first to ReplyRosetta is a gem in Mexico City
Great spot is a lively and fun neighborhood. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere is quite nice and the food was fantastic. This is one of the three restaurants in Mexico City in the world's top 50 list and it is by far much less expensive than the other two. I would highly recommend the bread that comes with butter mixed with ants. It was out of this world. The short rib was also amazing. I was told they change the menu daily, although I assume only a few things change each day. If you like good food, try this while in Mexico City. After dinner you can walk around the area and find a few places with live music if you wish.

Simply delicious. Every plate was exquisite, the flavors perfectly blended for an amazing results. Wine list is original but misses a few heavier weights. Service is ok and attentive.

Food was flawlessly cooked and amazingly delicate. Just a few ingredients made up my favorite dishes which included the white corn tamal, pappardelle with chicken liver, and the camote fagattini with salsa macha. It’s no wonder this restaurant is on most ‘must’ lists for Mexico City. FYI Be sure to book as far out as possible. Timing will dictate if you get prioritized for indoor vs outdoor seating.
Be the first to ReplyGreat venue but very disappointing food (never again).
Great venue in a beautiful villa that got transformed into a restaurant. The bar has some window seatings over-looking the street. The service was good (not great). Food was really disappointing. I had the scallops appetizer (you can barely see the scallops hidden in slices of cucumber in a very over-powering limy sauce. I would definitely not recommend it. The pasta with chicken liver was edible. Not sure what the hype is about. Food is really not impressive. Will not repeat.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed after our high expectations.
Our expectations were very high due to the reviews on Trip adviser as well as in the media. Slightly disappointed with the food, it tasted nice but the portions were very small. We spent £170 for 2 starters (scallops which were very tasty, but no cookery involved), and 2 mains (prawns with mole sauce, the prawns weren't cleaned properly with the prawn vein still intact in a couple - which is really inexcusable for a restaurant that is supposed to be one of the "top 50 restaurants in the world") and wine. We decided to cut our losses and leave without dessert. On a plus the waiters are attentive and helpful. The setting is nice.
Be the first to ReplyBit disappointing
Popped in as a walk in lunch on a whim, I was travelling solo and they had a table available for 90mins. I ordered two dishes on the recommendation of the waiter - a beetroot tartare and a tagliolini with strachinella cheese and chile Serrano. Both were very bland and in my view overpriced for what they were. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly. I popped next door to Blanco Colima and had a much more fun experience with some great cocktails in a much livelier atmosphere. Was a bit disappointed by Rosetta restaurant as other places within the group such as Lardo are great.
Be the first to ReplyVery mediocre food
Good service, lovely place, VERY mediocre food. Bread and short ribs were good. Grilled celeriac, tamales, pozole, and other appetizers were small, bland and lukewarm. A real disappointment
Be the first to ReplyGood but no need to come back
The atmosphere is amazing and the restaurant has really character. The service is very efficient (maybe a bit too efficient as you get the feeling that the faster you eat and go, the better). One receives the cocktail and wine list w/o menu which is weird in my opinion as one might chose the wine as a function of the food. We had four starters: ant butter with bread was very good, though disproportionated. The tartar and endivias were average. Crudo de kampachi was by far the best and most elegant starter. We did not get the focaccia bread (maybe because we had the ant butter as a starter). Mains were the pappardelle and the lechon. The former had a fantastic sauce and higaditos were well cooked. The real problem was the pasta which was chewy, I think out of some problems with the “impasto” (did they put cheese in it?). The pig was unappealing and uninteresting chromatically, the sauce too dense but well cooked. All in all a good dinner but definitely no need to come back.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting, lovely dinner!
Two things come to mind when I recall our dinner at Rosetta: the beautiful setting and the absolutely delicious tres leches lavender cake! Not that the rest of what we had wasn’t great! It was! And the whole dinner experience and service were top notch.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive and disappointing
The food is described in fanciful terms but is nothing special . We had the endive salad in a vanilla sauce which was bland. I had the sea bass baked in salt. The fish was overdone and had no spicing at all. Very ordinary, but expensive. My husband had the tagliatelle with chicken livers. It had no sauce and no spicing and the presentation was ugly. The cocktails came in tiny glasses and the wine by the glass was poured in such a way that it was just one third of a glass. We have never seen such meagre pouring of wine. We ate in other top restaurants in MXC, and this one was the most expensive.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic restaurant in a beautiful area
Our friends recommended this restaurant and made reservations for the 4 of us which was great because it appears that you need to have advance reservations. The service and food were outstanding. We particularly loved the tamale starter and the tagliatelli with chicken livers. The mescals were good, but, we were also happy that they had saki on the menu as we liked to have a departure from the usual drinks. We were sat inside and the high ceilings and plants made for a nice environment. We would go back to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place, fantastic pasta
We visited the rooftop bar one night and were impressed with the great cocktails and view. Came back for dinner and had a terrific time - 4 different pasta dishes, all wonderful, homemade pasta that was both flavorful and delicate. A lovely evening.
Be the first to ReplyStylish restaurant, starts strong.
Visited this location on a friend's recommendation. The location is nice, service was quite good. The drinks were creative and tasty. The appetizers started us off strong, they were amazing, but after that, well, it was OK. It's a good place to eat, though in a city like Mexico City, it didn't 'Wow' me as many places do... so it's a 'maybe' for a return.

I really loved the panaderia so we decided to book for the restaurant. While the food is good, it is not extraordinary. I really liked the starter with carrots and mole but otherwise the rest was just average pasta, but expensive.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t Skip the Pasta
Our attempt to dine at Rosetta in 2019 was thwarted by a long line of interested diners thanks to Somebody Feed Phil. Three years later we were finally able to enjoy the delicious combinations of local ingredients I’d heard about for years. Stand out dishes: gnocchi with Chiapas cheese and huitlacoche - pappardelle with chicken livers in a brown butter Sage sauce. Top notch! The flavors explode and combined with a beautiful glass of Mexican rose, we were in absolute heaven. The ambiance is comfortable and the service is very attentive. Skip dessert and enjoy cocktails at their mixology bar on the top floor. You won’t regret it!
Be the first to ReplyVery underwhelming
Our dining experience at Rosetta was very disappointing. The hot dishes were cold, the food wasn’t anything special. In fact, it seemed like they were trying too hard to be different - when you read the different ingredients of every dish it seemed interesting but the taste wasn’t good at all. The service wasn’t great, we waiting for a while to get our drinks. They brought them way after all the food was brought to the table. The bread was brought at the end of our meal. Overall not a good experience. Maybe skip the restaurant and go straight to their bakery.
Be the first to ReplyAn OK meal, that’s all
Ok but meh. Food was always served room temperature, portions were really small, everything was missing some critical texture, drinks took forever to get, indoor lighting in the main salon at night was like a loading dock at a hospital (cheap fluorescent/led white dim light). Ingredients were trying to be interesting but didn’t work well together. Bread was good, so was the sparkling water.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but nothing to write home about
I was excited to eat hear after reading many good reviews. The food certainly lived up to my expectations; Italian inspired dishes, all cooked to perfection. However, I was not completely blown away, and wouldn’t say this is “a must” if you are in the city. The dessert (peaches with fennel ice cream) was lovely, but could’ve done with something crunchy like a crumble or nuts to offer a different texture. Overall, a good experience but I wouldn’t rush back in a hurry; dare I say, perhaps this restaurant is overly hyped.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding food, excellent service!
The food was fantastic, the service equally excellent! We had the bread and ant butter (interesting), and the focaccia was superb. The white mole, the gnocchi was very tender, melted in your mouth. The flat iron steak was very tender and cooked to perfection. Really, it was an excellent meal. And our servers were very attentive.
Be the first to ReplySolid meal
Rosetta was written up in so many articles so my expectations were really high. I wasn’t disappointed but I also don’t feel the need to rush back. We started with the bread with ant butter (didn’t love it) and had two starters - the white mole and tamales, both which were delicious. For pastas I had the ravioli with fennel (way too much fennel) and my friend had a delicious pasta with Italian sausage. We split the flank steak (delicious but if you don’t like rare beef, don’t order it) and the peaches with fennel ice cream (again, a lot of fennel). Solid meal, but too many other restaurants to check out to rush back.
Be the first to ReplyBland tourist trap
We were very excited about Rosetta. The service, the ambiance and the neighborhood are beautiful. However, the food here is extraordinarily bland. Every single dish had a very singular taste and the taste was uninspired and boring. It is clear that this restaurant caters to tourists but the food quality is just really elementary. We are American ourselves but we live in California and are used to a very high quality of food. I understand catering to tourists but this basically tasted like a crappy American chain restaurant. Perhaps we should have known since we were the only non-white diners in the entire restaurant.
We ordered at least half the menu including popular items such as the short rib. Even that dish fell short, pun intended. After each dish we contemplated just stopping and asking for the bill but instead we thought to give Rosetta a chance until the end and we wasted our money.
Leaving completely unsatisfied we walked down the street to taqueria Alvaro. The al pastor tacos here had more flavor than all of the dishes at Rosetta combined. I don't like to write negative reviews for restaurants but I really wish I was warned about this place. Rosetta is the quintessential tourist trap.
Lovely meal
I thought this was an exceptional meal start to finish and another superb example of fusion cuisine. I had the tamales with a smoky cream sauce and a beet risotto. Both were excellent- I loved the tangy radicchio on top.
Be the first to ReplyNice but not up to expectations
We were seated at the second table after you walk in, which may not have been one of the better spots in the restaurant. The food and our waiter were fine but nothing really special, which was surprising to me. We had the carpaccio al pastor (-interesting, with very finely sliced pineapple, which was good but I think too strong for the meat); Savoy cabbage, pistachio pipián and romerito tacos, which were interesting; ravioli with ricotta and lemon which was uninteresting, Papperdalle with duck, which was tasty but really nothing special. The one truly special item was the dessert--Hoja Santa and criollo white bean cacao: unusual and satisfying.
Be the first to ReplyAnother Great Restaurant...
Whenever we go to Mexico City we make sure to dine at Quintonil and Pujol.... and at least one of the others that is touted as "great"! Up until this trip we had not found another that makes our list of restaurants that we need to visit while in Mexico City.... We have finally found it! Rosetta makes that grade.... from now on we will go to Quintonil, Pujol, and Rosetta.
If you enjoy really fine and interesting food I am sure that you will agree that Rosetta deserves a meal... The food was imaginative, creative and totally delicious.
Give Rosetta a try.... you won't be disappointed.
