Maximo always delivers.
I haven’t been back at Maximo since 2019, so I was eager to visit them at their new location. We tried the fixed menu, and althought it was very goog, I think the menu selection was no the best. I saw reviews with some dishes that easly look much savory and complex than the one in the fixed one. But it is still one of the best restaurants in CDMX. I look forward in clming back and trying other options a-la.carte.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best dining experiences in Mexico City
I had the great pleasure of visiting Mexico City recently. My friend and colleague is a certified foodie, and she took me to Maximo. this was a sublime experience on so many levels. The food, the people, the atmosphere, and I got to meet the chef! My friend knows him, and we had a lovely conversation. It is so great to see someone who works their passion. We had an amazing cocktail to start (mescalina with hibiscus) and our starters included the kampachi (visit the menu on the website :) ) and another amazing raw fish dish. We also had the onion cooked in whey with cheese, and for dinner shared the tagliatelle with ragout and an amazing Wagyu rib eye. did we have room for dessert? No, but we had one anyway. The amazing French toast with compote. the food was amazing, but the people and the environment made this meal extra special. the chef, Lalo Garcia, has a very interesting and inspiring story. I hope to come back here some day.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent fine cuisine...somewhat expensive but very delicious.
Very very fine dining. Good athmosphere, service is great, clean, fine restaurant with extraordinary dishes. Congrats to this high quality chef. Maybe one of the best 5-10 restaurants in Mexico City (I was born here and in 58 years rarely have I eaten better than here). Prices are much too high. In my opinion, according to the value, prices should be 15-20% lower.

Amazing food and service. The restaurant is very expensive, but definitely worth it if you want really creative, high end food. We were not that hungry so only had 2 appetizers and an entree and that was plenty for my wife and me. The portions are definitely good sized for restaurants of this quality. We had the burrata with fennel, pickled peaches, etc. and the onion in cheese and whey for appetizers. And Bronzino as an entree over a crab/frijoles mixture. All were amazing. The only negative is the wine list. The list is extensive, but the prices are crazy. I would say most bottles are 50% to 100% higher than what they would cost in a US restaurant. However, Cocktails were really good and fairly priced.
Be the first to ReplyThe Menu Lies - Don’t be Gaslit by Maximo
TLDR Buyer beware! Don’t come for the tasting menu - you won’t be able to order. We were very excited to come to Maximo and had heard great things. To start - everything is crazy slow and the kitchen, staff, and menu lie about what is available. They advertise a great tasting menu, but it’s not available half of the day, depending when you sit down. The kitchen closes for hours at a time and they won’t let you order. For context, we had a 3:45pm reservation, and sat down around 4pm. We didn’t order drinks or food until 4:30pm - we ordered the Tasting Menu. Around 15 mins later someone came out to let us know the kitchen was closed and we couldn’t order the tasting menu. Wanted to love it, there is great ambiance…but this was our worst experience in Mexico City eating (and we’ve done a lot of fine dining here). Awful experience - would not recommend. Avoid. The communication and service was terrible for a restaurant of this caliber and price point ($200USD per person)
Be the first to ReplyGreat innovative food, but pricey
This place is special! The food is creative blends of Mexican and French influences, and the dishes are truly unique. The setting is a bit casual - wooden tables without table cloths for example, in a warehouse style place. Romantic vibes. Dishes-wise, I'd recommend: - Scallops, just amazing! Taste was out of this world. Pricey though. - Soft shell crab "tostada". Innovative and beautifully done. - Beef tongue. Melt in the mouth - Kampachi "sashimi style". Super fresh, and tasty. The onions and cheese dish that our neighbours had looked good, and also recommended multiple times by others. Overall, the food is good. Pricing is expensive! The menu is online. The portions are rather big; I'd say 2 starters and 2 mains between two people might be a bit too much. We had 3 starts and 1 main, and felt really full by the end, no space for dessert.

My favorite restaurant in Mexico city. The food is amazing and the story of the Chef Lalo Garcia is absolutely fascinating. I decided to come to the restaurant after reading the book titled the Migrant Chef about the life and journey of Chef Garcia. The entire dining experience was unique. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious. Service was extraordinary. I especially enjoyed interacting with Chef Garcia and getting his perspective on running such a successful operation. His vision for contributing to the economy and helping his staff prosper is inspirational.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal. Great atmosphere
We thought the hood was very good and a good break from traditional Mexican food. Really a 4.5. Pretty place very good service. Way better than Puljo
Be the first to ReplyExtravagant experience!
Wow, what a wonderful place to celebrate a special event. I think all the other reviews pretty much covered everything. The cocktails were delicious, the wine that was suggested, was perfect for our meal. Our favorite dishes were the chicken liver, the onions, the chicken dish, and of course the ant eggs. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyReally good meal
We had a wonderful meal! I'm surprised the reviews aren't better. We got the kanpachi appetizer which was amazing. The beet appetizer was also good but the kanpachi shined. The ravioli and duck entrees were very good as well. The mojito was also well made! I'd want to go back on my next visit!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, Comfortable ambience
We had dinner at Maximo Bistro last week. Food was delicious, service was cordial and efficient. Beautiful interior. I had a leg of lamb dish that was excellent. My wife had an asparagus dish with hollandaise as a starter and Wagyu beef as a main course. Both were excellent. I see from other reviews that opinions were mixed on the pepper ice cream dessert. I liked it. We drank a very nice Pinot Noir from Mexico. So, lots to like about this restaurant. It is located in the Roma district. We were there on Saturday night and it was very fun and lively. Plenty of bars and restaurants, even a "Cafebreria", a multicolor bookstore-coffeehouse-bar.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food in a modern setting
My family went here recently on a visit to Mexico City. The restaurant had been recommended to my son by friends. It was nice to go to a different neighborhood than the one in which we were staying. The restaurant itself was very beautiful. We went on a Tuesday night and it ended up being full . We all enjoyed our meals. Some of the dishes we had included the organic BBQ fried chicken, the tagliatelle with beef tail ragout, the duck and the red snapper. For dessert we shared the french toast and the chocolate caviar cake with pink pepper ice cream. i am a chocolate lover but the french toast was much better. The waiter told us to order it. i didn't like the pink pepper ice cream on the chocolate caviar cake and the cake itself was just all right. The fried chicken appetizer was wonderful as was the tagliatelle that I had for my main course. I have no idea why some recent reviews gave this restaurant low marks. I would be happy to dine here again.
Be the first to ReplyOrdinary fine dining
High expectations and sky high prices, but the result was a pretty middling fine dining experience. We did really enjoy an ahi tuna appetizer that we got — one of the best I’ve ever had. However most of the other dishes were just some flavor of decent. Service was fairly attentive but not particularly professional. It was a fine experience but not worth planning our whole day around

Loved everything. Had the roasted onion starter with the cruffin- out of this world! Service was really great and ambiance was inrecible!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible, expensive experience
What a disaster! So much for the finest restaurant in Mexico City. So much for five stars. We had a reservation for a long time, at 4:00 on a Wednesday. This was [supposed to be] one of the lighlights of our trip to Mexico City. First of all, they never said when we made a reservation that *there is no tasting menu after 3:30* for the earlier seatings. Not when we made our reservation, not when we arrived, not when, 20 minutes after we arrived they brought us a menu, which we had to request, not until somebody wandered up and took our order. They *never came over to us* without asking. The power went out, but they kept serving people. But . . . oops! . . . not us. It was not an enjoyable meal, and of course we spent tons of money. The baby corn was really, really delicious, as was the Wagyu flat iron steak. But the other dishes were just fine. The massively expensive caviar on plantain bread tasted like delicious banana bread, which so overpowered the caviar that it made absolutely no sense to serve them together. The asparagus was lovely, but at something like $30, I guess it should be. This just wasn't a special meal, and I'm still completely baffled that they ignored us. We asked for a dessert menu and just. never. got it. They were so over us before we even walked in the door.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal in CDMX!
I am surprised that this place doesn't get 5 stars from everyone. This was the best meal that we had in CDMX this trip, and we ate a Pujol and other excellent places. The restaurant was lovely, the service was excellent and perfect (attentive without being overly present), and the food was AMAZING! I particularly loved the Kamachi sashimi with XO sauce, the chicken liver pate, the mushroom soup, and the fresh pastas. Everything was lovely, but those were our favorites.
Be the first to ReplyShouldn’t be a foodie destination in Mexico City
Do yourself a favor. Try somewhere else. Don’t waste your time with this restaurant. A really disappointing experience. We have our favorite Mexico City spots and this has never made it to our list. After much postponing we decided to book and have lunch at the restaurant. I do regret it. Service at the entrance and from our waiter was friendly and unpretentious, kudos for that. But that is where it ends. Food was nothing to rave about, very bland, we kept trying to like it. But we couldn’t. It simply is way below any other restaurant in Mexico City. Prices are high. We are fine paying for that if the experience is worth it. This was not the case. At the end we asked to split the bill in half. They overcharged one of the cards for more than USD 60 and when we noticed it, they blamed the machine. Mexico City is a great foodie destination. This does not deserve to be on the foodie map.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and not deserving its fame
Foodie here. I had great expectations given the chef's and restaurant's fame, but it was a great disappointment. Roasted beets did not taste roasted, orange vinaigrette was not "orangy", and worst, Celaya goat cheese was bland instead of the tangy, lactic flavor that goes so well with roasted beets (rather it tasted like bland mozarella). What is that on top of it all? breadcrumbs? Yuck. Gnochi with chanterelles sounded good, but the little three pieces of these forest gems got lost in a sauce that tasted of.... what? what is it? I could not tell. I did not remember what I read on the menu and could not figure out what the sour taste was. Not bad, but please do not offend these delicate wild mushrooms! The right cooking techniques allow you to get unique and amazing flavors out of all the fungi that we get in Mexico City in rainy season. Sauce was too sour and the puddle of mashed peas only created more confusion. I acknowledge octopus was not meant to be grilled on charcoal -as is frequently done here and the Mediterranean, but it did not appear to be prepared "a la plancha" (hot plate grill) either. Indeed the open kitchen (Kudos. Thank you!!) later revealed that it was sautéed in a pan. Consequently, texture was off and caramelization and browning incomplete. One French diner in our table did not have the slightest appreciation for his lamb, and our American guest had nothing to say about his fish either. To be fair, goat cheese ice cream with olive oil was divine. It was mounted on a pastry of.... what? what is it again? Give me the ice cream by itself if the pastry adds nothing. Service was erratic at best, Very very friendly, but sincerely inconsistent. As other reviews noted, plates of guests arrived at odd times. Empty plates of two guests could be lying on the table long after the other plates were cleared. Prices are too high for the so-so quality of the food. Our two Mexican wine choices were not available and ALL bottles were ridiculously overpriced. I do not give this place less stars because the whole experience was not offensive and there was nothing horrendously bad (well, service at times was 2 stars, in spite of being friendly). Believe me, if you are a foodie and like exceptional food, there are dozens of better places in Mexico City, certainly less expensive. I hope Eduardo García takes notice of this review, because I would imagine he has what it takes to get 5-star reviews from gourmet diners -but not from this one here.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not great, overhyped, service definitely needs improvement
Food: 4 stars Service: 2 stars I had high expectations since I saw it listed as one of the best 100 restaurant in the world. Well, it is not. It was a good experience overall but far from perfect, and a couple of times they made terrible mistakes (one being not serving both commensals at the same time, that’s unforgivable in my book.)
Be the first to ReplyRecommended but not my first choice
Pros -We order a bottle of red wine. They carry a well thought selection of Mexican wines, with good value-price ratio. -We arrived early to our reservation, took a drink, and were provided a table right on-time. We visited on a Mon night and it was packed, would not suggest arriving wo reservation. -For us the highlights of the menu were; cooked sweet onion (spectacular!), and for main the Tagliatte and Flat Iron Wood Grilled Wagyu, nevertheless they change the menu often. -Clean bathrooms ! Cons -The place was noisy, mostly due to roof structure, add ambient music, and it was challenging at times to understand the waiter or even have a conversation. -Service was attentive and timely, but the place has fine-dining prices (tasting menu is $150 and $235usd) so we were expecting a bit more from the setting and overall experience. -At times the food tasted a bit oversalty, for example Tagliatte and Pantomate with Parmesan cheese. The Grilled Wagyu was on-spot with balanced flavor. -Carrasco Iberian ham underdeliver in terms of presentation and flavor. Our conclusion is that Maximo has built a well deserved name for itself, but based on that day tables around us, it felt more as if it caters to a tourist market segment. I recommend the place, but being more of a local, would not really be my first option in the upcoming future.

The ambience of the restaurant was great, the people there were friendly as well. The food was unique and delicious, and it was truly a wonderful dinning experience.

The best food we have had in Mexico. They were a bit funny over us being a large table (of 7) so gave us no choice. It did not matter - all the dishes were great. We enjoyed all the elements. Easy to recommend!

I loved the space and decor of this restaurant. But of course the food also has to be good and it is! It was recommended by a friend and it ended up being our favorite dining experience in CDMX.
Be the first to ReplyLovely restaurant, phenomenal food.
Fantastic service, ambiance and food was phenomenal. Would go here again during our 4 day stay if they had availability.
Everything was delicious!!
Cool location, open kitchen, and phenomenal food
Came late evening on a Friday night and the restaurant was as busy as it could be. Regardless, after waiting for only a short time, they made space for our party. The drinks were excellent and the food was truly very good. This is a restaurant worth visiting and worth visiting again.
