Jewish food is not really what comes to mind when planning a trip to Buenos Aires, but I'm so glad we gave Mishiguene a try after seeing it on the Latin America 50 Best Restaurants list. The restaurant has a cool sensibility. Lively Jewish music playing in the background, and classic design influences but with a modern style. Walking in, you know you are in store for a fun experience. It feels cozy and relaxed, yet still upscale.Make no mistake, the food is anything but banal. Chef Kalika takes inspiration from traditional flavors but updates them in such an innovative and unique way that our meal ended up being quite memorable. The food is executed with precision and finesse, with robust flavors. In spite of the discerned approach, everything somehow retains a sense of comfort. We ordered:- Bread Basket (Free): Pickled Cucumbers, Sweet Chala with Raisins, Bagel of the Day, Pita, Onion Jelly with Schmaltz & Gribenes- Baba Ganoush (ARS 390): Wood-Smoked Eggplant with Lime, Olive Oil, Tomato Coulis, Toasted Almonds, Tahini- Cauliflower Steak (ARS 450): Grilled Cauliflower, Cauliflower and Gremolata Emulsion, Grilled Chili Peppers, Pickled Onions, Preserved Lemon, Tomato Coulis, Lebaneh and Fried Chickpea Croute- Quail With Farfalach (ARS 520): Glazed Quail, Farfalaj Risotto, Candied Portobello Mushrooms and Glazed Carrots- Baklava (ARS 290): Phillo Pastry Cigars filled with Walnuts and Pistachios, Yogurt Ice Cream, Candied Orange PeelOur waiter suggested about 3 dishes as the appropriate amount to order for two. Icons on the menu (small vs large plate) indicate if the dish is small or large in size. It was just the right amount of food for us, with dessert, though I wish we had gotten to try even more!Wine list had plenty of reasonably priced and interesting options, and we enjoyed the 2015 Montesco Punta Negra Pinot Noir from Mendoza (ARS 540). We started with a glass of the DV Catena Nature Bodega Catena Zapata sparkling wine (ARS 157/gl), which was just alright. There is a cocktail list and wines by the glass, as well.Overall, highly recommended. The pricing is on the higher end compared to other options in BA (and they charge a cover for each person), but for the quality and overall experience, felt justified.Total Cost: ARS 2,689 ~ USD 150 (incl. cover charge of ARS60/person)Credit Cards: AcceptedEnglish: Menu in English and Waitstaff SpeakDress: Upscale Casual (Nice but not dressy).Tipping: Not on credit card, need to leave cash.
