Clever Cuisine Stratford-upon-Avon Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing 1940's War Era Tea House
We went to this tea house with a school group from the States. There were 47 of us and we all wanted to try authentic British tea service. We had reservations after they closed for the day and it was amazing. If in Strafford - upon - Avon, this is a perfect place for lunch! The staff was extremely attentive and made sure we did our tea correctly. He told us to put the milk in after we poured our tea, how to use the tea timer to ensure our tea was perfect, and how to put clotted cream and jam on our scones. The food was amazing. There are 3 different tea options. One is regular which we had, they also have a vegan and vegetarian option. With our regular option, we had sandwiches on the bottom. The bottom layer had coronation chicken, Cucumber sandwiches, a salmon type, and an egg sandwich. I was nervous trying them because they seemed so different from what we are used to in the States, but these were my favorite parts of the tea. They were delicious! The next layer was the scones with clotted cream and a strawberry jam. The scones were like a sweet biscuit and were great. There were also two quiches. My mom liked this layer the best. By the time we got to the top, we were full of sandwiches and tea, but we fought the good fight and continued on. The top layer had some sweets. One was a chocolate type of cake, another was like an oats and chocolate trail bar, and there was a lemon square and a caramel/toffee type of cake. They also have teapots and tea for sale. I enjoyed the tea so much I bought a tea pot and two bags of the house blend and a new Shakespeare blend. Needless to say, were were all full to the brim with good food and great tea. I would definitely go back and encourage others to do the same.
Average afternoon tea
The decor inside is great. War themed and even the menu was a ration book. The staff were friendly and the food came out quick. However, we had an afternoon tea which was overpriced for what it was at £29. The sandwiches were nice and the scones were good size. Though it came with the tiniest pot of jam and clotted cream to share that we had to ask for another pot as it wasn't enough for two. The mini desserts were ok. The brownie was dry. The macaron was the saving grace.
Shocking foodp
Food was shocking scone stale like it's been standing for days .sandwiches shocking .we had our tea and walked out we had really looked forward to this day .
WWII era these tea room
Nice decor with indoor and outdoor seating. Variety of teas and pastry. Breakfast and lunch, I didn’t notice if they do supper. Nice employees with delicious tea and scones.
Unique atmosphere and wonderful tea!
This was totally unexpected, and a real highlight of my ten days in the UK. Tea rooms abound here, but this one is unique in character. The 1940’s theme is omnipresent, from the vintage signs on the wall, to the “passport” style menu, and the big band playlist. The selection of teas is mighty! Each comes with a description, as well as a recommended brew time (for which you’re given an old school hourglass timer). From the individual tea pots to the immersible tea strainers, they take tea seriously here, and it shows. I opted for the sandwich selection rather than the Afternoon tea, and was not disappointed. I also had the best onion soup in Great Britain - easily enough for two people. The service was friendly and only served to enhance the experience. Don’t miss it!
A fabulous experience!!
A fabulous experience from the friendly welcome to this forties style cafe , an institution not to be missed in Stratford! Everything we ordered was delicious and reasonably priced (including the best Greek salad outside of Greece!) All the staff take pride in all they do, even procuring us English beer which wasn’t even on the menu!
Ok for something quick
I was excited to visit this tea room, but I felt a bit let down. It was noisy, stuffy and the food wasn't great. It was rather expensive for the quality, too.
Amazing afternoon tea!
Visited The Fourteas followed strong recommendations by our local friends. We were thrilled! A 1940s themed Tea Room with unique decor, food and service. Our afternoon tea we couldn't finish. We ended up taking home the top tier cakes. Will be back soon!
A lovely experience with friendly helpful staff.
I always visit here with my son and the service/food is always amazing. This visit I went solo and really fancied a poached egg, it was past breakfast so I wasn’t sure they would make it. The manager was amazing and so was the chef and they made especially for me. This made me very happy as hardly anywhere in town do poached eggs. I had been having a terrible week and this really cheered me up. The staff are so friendly, helpful and always make my visit a lovely experience. Thank you to the staff :) Laura
Give this cafe a miss
Our son thought we might enjoy having lunch here. We were looking forward to it. It was absolutely appalling. I felt it was a little grubby. The food was poor quality, the croque monsieur was soggy, not toasted as described.the chips with the fish were awful. , We asked about beer and ordered 4 bottles of what were supposed to be available. 2 different types arrived, neither of which were mentioned by the waitress. We were told they had run out and that was all they had left! They had also run out of ketchup, we were told they had had a busy morning !It was 12. 30! We asked for glasses, they eventually arrived, 2of them were dirty, Service was poor and staff scruffy, no atmosphere, if music from the era had being played, it might have helped a little with the atmosphere. Definitely a rip off cafe to be avoided at all costs. The person in charge couldn’t care less.
Good all round Experience
I visited for the second time brought a different friend with me this time. It was as good as the first time. We were greeted and seated straight away. We ordered a Sweet Vera which was a fruit scone Jam cream and a pot of tea £9.50. Classic Victoria Sponge £7.50 and an Americano £4.50 Enjoyed everything no complaints all good thanks you.
One to avoid
One to avoid, weak tastless tea, bitter coffee, stale scone and dirty toilet. Cake is £7.50 a slice!Tables sticky staff were friendly but not attentive. Generally a bad experience
Our first visit, maybe our expectations were wrong
We loved the potential of this place. Having much older parents, who grew up and fought in the war, we were looking forward to the nostalgia. Apart from the wonderful music being played, the place lacked the nostalgic charm we had hoped for. We are not going to blame The Fourteas for that, rather our own expectations. The two waitresses working were nice but there was nothing warm about them. They did their job! There were lots of great posters on the wall but we did not ‘feel’ that anything was at all special about the place. Given we stopped here at 1pm, the place was empty with only 3 other tables occupied. We really loved the idea of this place but the reality was that it’s just another tea room with expensive prices which are not really justified.
Disappointed
Really disappointed with our visit today, we decided not to have the afternoon tea option as it is £30 per person. We had a sandwich & fruit scone jam/cream each, which all came up together, which was to much for the small table,so I put the scone plates on the bench next to me, the bread option on the sandwiches came up wrong and the waitress who is a very pleasant young lady, but we felt she really rushed us, even though there were hardly any other customers and when we paid the bill she asked if we had enjoyed our food, I mentioned the mix up on the bread, she did not apologise, just said the chef must have made the mistake. We loved the old war time music playing but the last 10 minutes of our stay the music changed to more modern which was not in keeping with the theme. We will not be going back.
Has gone downhill
I've been to the Four Teas once before for afternoon tea and the experience was great. This time it wasn't. It's very expensive for the quality of food you get. Our food orders came wrong, the coffee wasn't good and they messed up our bill as well. w head to wait 20 mins for them to put a couple of tables together for us to sit (the place was almost empty). The place is a little bit run down as well compared to what I remember. I wouldn't recommend.
Delicious Afternoon Tea
Had a fantastic afternoon tea here yesterday. Staff were refreshingly friendly, attentive and the food was delicious. They were also happy with me bringing my dog.
Breakfast
Came here for a breakfast and was not disappointed. Had two full montys breakfasts and they were extremely good. Looking back I should have asked to see the chef with how good they were. Also impeccably dressed staff and the boss (I believe) was super helpful when we had a slight issue. couldn't recommend more. 10/10
Yummy
This is a perfect place to go for couples, very nicely themed and the waiting staff and the boss was very nice. Also relatively price, i would 100% reccomend. The croque monsiuer was extremly tasty.
Amazing service, food and atmosphere.
I took my mum here on a day out to Stratford-Upon-Avon, and although they were very busy, and we had not booked, they managed to get us a table. They advised there would be a short wait and showed us to the Bar. It was not long before the table was ready and the polite and very well dressed staff showed us where to sit. We had already looked at the menu while at the bar so were ready to order. The food was delicious and looking around at other tables, the afternoon teas looked amazing so we are planning to come back. The atmosphere was fantastic, with so many items to look out for in the restaurant, including the tape on the windows to prevent shattered glass in a "raid" so authentic. All the staff were polite and attentive. There is also an outside area which I'm sure in the slightly warmer weather would be lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. The prices were very reasonable too. I will defiantly be making this a stopping point on my trips to Stratford in the future with friends and family.
WORST TEAROOM EXPERIENCE - Fourteas, Stratford-upon-Avon
The worst tearoom experience I can recall. It was crowded out, and the maitre'd put the 4 of us on the 'stage' (a raised seating area behind rails). The 'boss' twice walked by, stopped for about 5secs, turning to stare at our drinks. He had such a miserable scowling look on his face, and at one time told-off the maitre'd for, presumably, seating us in such a prestigious spot, and then spending so little on just teas and coffees (though the they were very expensive). Obviously we felt very uncomfortable. We would certainly not recommend anyone to frequent the Fourteas Tearoom Brasserie in Stratford-upon-Avon.
We’ll done
Just had a wonderful lunch at the Fourteas. Staff and manager were friendly and welcoming. Allowed us in with our dog. We had the Sunday roast and oh my it was absolutely delicious, everything was perfect plenty of meat and vegetables. Dessert was delightful would recommend the Victoria sponge to anyone visiting. Atmosphere of the place was nice background music and decor was good.
A delightful tea room oldy worldly
We went here after reading the reviews and can say we weren’t disappointed. The staff are very smart and well dressed and couldn’t help more. We had our dog with us and she is very well trained and they were very welcoming and gave us a table. The tea room is nice and clean almost in decades ago. The menu is presented in the old ration card format with plenty of choices for a tea room. The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. Well worth a visit, they also have a bar which too is done nicely and tastefully. They seem to sell replica gas masks I suppose to be as close as they can be in the wartime. We had a very pleasant tea experience and would recommend this tea room and bar.
Lost its charm
We always looked forward to a visit to Stratford and the Fourteas, unfortunately it's lost its charm and atmosphere, the tea was left to stew for over 9 minutes but was still weak and the quality of the food was poor.
Very expensive for what you get.
Kids wanted to go in easy sandwiches for 4 of us stayed away from the £29 tier with 2 scones , cheaper so we thought separate WRONG son is GF they done a great job for him I had 2 coffees very nice , wife and daughter shared a large pot of tea , son had pineapple juice and we had 4 slices of cake. When the bill came I looked wife double checked it £91.00 for 4 people, the cake so was full we were told chef had already prepared the cake it was a frozen slice of cake defrost in kitchen then drizzled mango sauce and a spoon of cream on the side , gents wore modern uniforms and music was a bit hit and miss few 1940,s bits then off to the 60,s Frank Sinatra songs then back , toilets were not the best and no hot water warning very hot go carful, look for the subway near William Shakespeare house just down cheaper. Sorry we did read it has changed hands as the ladies who once served you wore 1940,s cloths.
Easter holidays visit.
Fabulous Second World War decor and interesting information dotted around. Pleasant atmosphere and welcoming staff.
Lovely experience
Very enjoyable breakfast. Great portion sizes and very good coffee. Excellent customer service. Relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely return.
