Chaminade Resort & Spa Santa Cruz Reviews from The Last Year
The view at the restaurant is beautiful and the outdoor
The view at the restaurant is beautiful and the outdoor seating is wonderful. I enjoy spending time on the grounds and appreciate the beautiful landscaping, which is top-notch. The food is average/below average. The restaurant service is slow and the wait staff is unprofessional. A few weeks ago, we waited 45 minutes for our food. The waiter forgot to put our order in for one item, so it never arrived. When we inquired about it, she shrugged her shoulders, said "oops, I forgot" (no apology), and that was that. Some of the staff here is a bit rough around the edges, lacking in basic manners and politeness, so I would not say it is a high end customer service experience. The gym and spa are OK. Same issues around the staff there though. The resort draws a mixed crowd. Overall, it is a three star experience.
I actually really liked this place.
It had sort of a different feel but I vibed with it. The buildings in which you stay in gave me sort of as summer-camp vibe but it was still solid inside your room. I will say there was a weird sliding door for the bathroom which I did not like because the person in your room could hear all your business without even trying too. Luckily we had ear pods for that. But that aside it was great and the pool and hot tub at night time and the mini bar was SO sweet
The Father's Day brunch was not worth the money paid.
The blueberry mimosa was good. The View was nice and service was good though very slow service it took forever to get our drinks.
Father's Day brunch today was a huge disappointment.
Reservations were at 11, we were not seated until 11:15...no big deal but by 11:45, we were still waiting on drinks. Ordered the Chamosa (blueberry sage mimosa), and was told when all the drinks arrived that they were out of blueberry and sage. Again, that's okay, but why did it take 30 minutes to relay that information? We were a party of 8, and ordered 3 appetizers for the table. The $24 cheese board came with 5 cracker toasts and 4 small pieces of cheese. The green bean appetizer did not come with the aioli listed on the menu. When I asked for it, it took over 10 minutes to bring it out. By then, we were finished with the appetizer. It took 45 minutes for our food to come out. $24 for a burger. The meat was tasteless. The $24 price tag did not include cheese, avocado, or bacon. Just a plain burger with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a dry bun. Another member of the party ordered the prime rib and eggs special. Our entrees came out at different times, 4 people got their meals first, then two more about 5 mins later, and finally the last person (who had ordered the prime rib and eggs) was left waiting. The manager came out and said they "just" ran out of prime rib. Again, these things happen, but why did it take more than 50 minutes after ordering to deliver this information? Requests for ketchup, hot sauce, iced tea refills all took more than 10 minutes. All in all, it took 2 1/2 hours from reservation time to paying the bill, and the food was 100% not worth that time investment or price point.
Lunch with a group of co-worker.
Service was worst. Missed an order of eggs Benedict. Was terrible - wish they would have not brought the food. Waitress rude when we asked for the cake we had brought to serve. Not friendly at all!
So disappointed.
Took my daughter there for a spa day. I don't think they have upgraded the spa area for 20 years and it looks like it. The services were good but the owners should put some money into this place. I definitely won't be returning.
2 stars for the beautiful setting and everyone I interacted
2 stars for the beautiful setting and everyone I interacted with was super nice but within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant I started feeling sick. I have a feeling it was the sort of creamy sauce on the salad. I wouldn't come back.

In our opinion, this is anything but a "luxury" hotel and
In our opinion, this is anything but a "luxury" hotel and not worth the price. The suite was very basic, the rug was worn and stained, and the "rustic" look did not work. Sofa bed and rollaway bed were very uncomfortable. Wet bar consisted of paper/plastic cups, 2 water bottles, 2 tea bags, and a few coffee pods. No utensils, plates, or glasses. The towels were standard hotel towels, nothing luxury about them. The toilet seat was broken and the heat system blew tepid air. There is no closet! I left my phone charger there and they refuse to send it to me unless I sign up for an online marketing site. The spa was nice but there are no co-ed facilities. Improved pool area is nice. They do charge you daily for the spa whether or not you use it. We did not eat at the hotel. Overall, we were very disappointed compared to our experience several years ago. We checked out a day early but were charged for it anyway. It took several calls to correct the bill. We will not be going back.
I booked a day pass through ResortPass to utilize the pool
I booked a day pass through ResortPass to utilize the pool and some spa services for the day. A $200/day cabana by the pool. This provided full access to the pool area and use of the sauna/fitness center. The cabana was nothing special. They included towels for the pool. I stayed 3 hours and left. I had to order food from an online menu. The cell service is terrible in the area, I tried over 5 times to order food and every time it couldn't process a payment. You can't order food from the bar at the pool. I had to call the room service and order food to the pool. It arrived after 45 minutes. Food was cold. They brought me a liter of sparkling water, hot, no ice and a bottle that required a bottle opener with no opener. The pools were old and not well maintained. No one enforces pool rules so kids were running around wild with pool toys and balls. I had toys flying into my cabana and kids running in and out to retrieve them. Basically it's a place for parents to check out and let the pool babysit. I thought Chaminade was a high-end resort. I was wrong. It's maybe a step above a Hilton.
