Bybrook Chippenham Reviews from The Last Year
Wonderful
Outstanding. We took my wife for Mother’s Day, the family of four loved every part of the experience. Wonderful engaging and tentative staff, a brilliant taster menu and very generous pairing wines in a beautiful restaurant. I can’t recommend it enough and we’ll certainly return.
Good flavours but expensive for what you get
I am a big fan of tasting menus. I specifically choose places to stay based on whether they offer them. I really wanted Bybrook to be amazing. I was alone. I had played a great golf course at the Manor House Golf Club that day and I was staying overnight. So I wanted to go in deep on a tasting menu and wine flight. The result was…meh. Harsh? Maybe. But this is a place charging £145 for 7 courses - all of which, by the way, are quite small - and £90 for what turned out to be 5 small glasses of wine. These are prices that would make a London Michelin star restaurant blush. It’s £235 per person in a hotel that charges around £405 per night for an above average luxury room. That ratio is bonkers. The flavours are apt in most dishes. But it is mouthfuls of quite good food, that is also quite small. Every time you finish something in one mouthful you are cognisant of the “£145 BYBROOK NEW PRICE.” The wine selection is ok, but it’s nothing world beating. There are no top tier wines. And £90 feels very expensive for an indifferent Albarino, a bit of Chablis, a few sips of good orange wine, a glug of Ok-ish Salento and a pleasant but predictable Royal Tokaji. Maybe the “New Price” hasn’t come with an accompanying “New Value.”
Spend your money elsewhere
My expectations were admittedly high but I left wishing I’d spent far less to eat far better. The servers and sommelier were lovely but we were also ignored for the first 35 minutes after we were sat - for context, they were quite busy but we’d also had this reservation for weeks so it felt like poor planning either way. Wine pairing was fantastic. Food was so beautiful but just ok flavor-wise, which I don’t say lightly. We left feeling both hungry and overall disappointed. For the record, we are staying at the hotel which is gorgeous and the staff are so lovely. So, we’ll certainly be back to stay but won’t eat dinner at the restaurant again.
Amazing!
What a fabulous experience my husband and I had at this beautiful place. We both had the 7 course tasting menu - I had the vegetarian one and requested not to have mushrooms and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Every course we had was absolutely delicious and the presentation was incredible. Every member of staff was charming and friendly and we honestly could not fault anything. Fantastic choice of wine too. It certainly was not cheap, but for a special occasion, I highly recommend it.
Worthy of its Michelin star status
Recently updated restaurant is excellent and food is worthy of its Michelin star rating. We stayed the night and had a great experience. Staff great and venue is situated in lovely village.
To try
Restaurant located inside the "Manor house", an incredibly beautiful place to spend at least one night. The dinner was a pleasant journey to discover new flavors accompanied by excellent wine, the presence of Andrea, an excellent sommelier, was pleasant. Excellent service and nice atmosphere. Advised
Bybrook: pure delight
The seven course taster menu, eight courses including the Chef’s amuse bouche, is understandably a hefty £110 a head and with drinks no change out of £300 for two. Honestly, and as a treat, worth every penny. We started with a couple of on-point cocktails in the sumptuous Gin bar, a perfect Lemon (cello) Sherbert and Amaretto Sour before we were guided through to the main event. The restaurant itself is a delight and easily copes with it’s well spaced out 50 to 60 covers. Staff to customer ratios are high and service was excellent. No expense has been spared on the décor which balances top end, fine dining with casual informality. No need for unnecessary clinical, razor ironed white linen, silly cloches and suppressed whispering; this place was full to the rafters with elegant ease creating a confident and convivial hub. Being a nosy git I was intrigued by the crockery (I know sad) but truthfully the most tactile and design triumph plates and bowls I have ever eaten off. Sourced by JL Coquet in Limoges, France, my mate Google informed that each piece was a mere £100 plus a piece. Little wonder the waiting staff were clinging on for dear life otherwise could be an expensive slip. I had the full monte (fish and meat) menu whilst the blonde had veggie options as she isn’t a fan of anything fishy. Each course was a Tate Gallery artistic joy and has us both bereft of superlatives which extended our wonderment and appreciation through to the “proof of the pudding” the taste. There’s no way I’m going to cover all eight courses but they all ranged from very good to excellent to out of this world. Suffice to say my stand outs were the Chalk stream trout with oyster, wasabi and roe; Peterhead Cod with coastal herbs and sea weed butter and Coconut with mango, passion fruit and kaffir lime. She particularly enjoyed the laminated (sic) Brioche with cultured butter and Kohlrabi, celeriac and Wiltshire truffle. Look the bottom line is that these dishes are not for the unadventurous nor the faint hearted and nor are they for anyone who places high perceived value on quantity. That’s why Britain has Harvesters and Wetherspoons. A couple of pre-dinner cocktails, two eight course taster meals, a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio and a bottle of still water all came in at £333 including 12.5.% service.
Delicious food and wine, superb service.
We treated ourselves to celebrate our anniversary and have no regrets. The tasting menu was delicious, wine was lovely, service was excellent; attentive but not intrusive, beautiful setting. We especially enjoyed the trout, the mains, pre-dessert and dessert, oh and the petit fours (!). Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Beautiful restaurant with exceptional food. For foodies.
The Manor House hotel restaurant is Michelin star restaurant serving excellent food in an unpretentious atmosphere. The food was artfully presented, but it was clear flavors were the priority. The seven course fixed price (£145 pp) dinner did not seem like to much food and was worth the price. It was the best good we had in our fifteen day Cotswolds journey.
Excellent food & service - beware the cancellation policy
The Bybrook Restaurant at the Manor was a must visit while we were holidaying in the area. There is nothing quite like the experience of a Michelin starred restaurant and the creations of the chef behind the menu. The Bybrook restaurant is a lovely setting and the room is light, airy and of course historically of great interest. The taster menu seems to be the order of the day for dinner service so we selected this for both of us. At £280 for two without wine, it was certainly not cheap, but as a Michelin starred meal was it worth it?....read on! The menu was super interesting and in some courses undersold on the paper description. The food was served exquisitely and the waiting staff were both knowledgeable and accommodating when it came to questions about the dish being served. It's always a real plus to have this background knowledge available when you want to enquire about the dish and everything about the service from all concerned was frankly impeccable. The food itself was all beautifully prepared and delivered. I was slightly disappointed with the lamb of the main course, while the meat was beautiful and cooked to perfection, it was the size of two first class stamps once the fat had been trimmed off (I choose not to eat even rendered fat for health reasons) - too small even for a main course of a taster menu. Otherwise the food was a real treat to enjoy and experience the creativity of an excellent chef, beginning to end. So - why not 5 stars? Three simple reasons... 1. The lamb on the main dish was just too small, it left a lot to be desired despite in and of itself being amazing. 2. All the courses were excellent but after seven courses we had to go out later that evening and buy some more food, it simply didn't fill us up. You might say "well it was a taster menu after all!" - we've had other taster menus and while each individual dish is small I've never felt anything other than full after the whole menu. 3. This is the big one for me...I was ill two days before and as this is a set taster menu run every evening we asked about cancelling and re-arranging expecting no issues. We were told that we could cancel but would be subject to the FULL cost of the menu as a cancellation fee - all £280 of it. Given the menu is the same day in, day out, this seemed to be an overly aggressive and inflexible cancellation policy/approach and one I haven't experienced anywhere else with this severity of impact and I am including Michelin starred restaurants here. I do not believe that two people moving their booking over 48 hours before it was scheduled could not be accommodated without impact. If the kitchen is being run on such tight tolerances that this cannot be accommodated for a very real reason for the clients, something is wrong! For that last reason alone, I would not book the Bybrook again. There are many completely valid reasons in this age of living with Covid alone that someone may not be able to attend 72-48 hours beforehand and charging the full amount as a cancellation fee feels frankly like curmudgeonly highway robbery. However good the food and service was, that % risk of losing that sum of money through no fault of your own does not on balance seem worth it and that is a real shame for the talented chef and front of house staff who otherwise delivered an excellent product and service.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
