I've recently moved and have been amazed at how a much
I've recently moved and have been amazed at how a much smaller city like Redlands can directly compete with a much larger city like Pasadena -- which is known for it's voluminous dining choices. I was quickly able to find tasty Greek food (Phoenicia), solid sushi (Tokyo Restaurant), yummy Chinese (Rui's Shanghai Bistro), very impressive pizza (Bricks and Birch), and shockingly good vegan burgers (Plant Power. Start with the Big Zac and tell me I'm wrong).Mexican? That proved to be kind of tricky. Plenty of choices but all were kinda MEH. Nothing to get excited over. Until INES TAMALES added burritos and tacos to their menu. Then I was done looking for Mexican.Thai? It's been a lot like the Mexican search. The places were all good but I couldn't find The Keeper. I'm a Yelpnut and so I knew about Benarong months ago. The problem is their star count was lower than places I found to be good but not stellar. Yet I drove by their lovely restaurant and had seen pics of the lovely interior and got a feeling I should (this time) ignore Yelp and give it a try.I'm glad I did. It's not the best Thai I've had but it's likely some of the best Thai in town. I had two lunch specials and the included 'free' soup wasn't junk. It was actually a delightful Tom Kha Kai Soup.My partner in crime's Yellow Curry Tofu was a good start. Big chunks of delicately fried tofu and some potato I guess. We asked for mild spicing and so the sauce was good. It's just been my experience that curries come with additional vegetables like carrot. Maybe a red bell would visually liven things up as well.My Pad Thai was pretty good. Not too sweet, plenty of flavor. I will say I wasn't desperate to eat it all in one sitting -- which is a thing of pad thai. Like you want to inhale it. But the serving was generous enough for two. So since I was taking this order to go I'll get two meals out of it. Not bad. You'll hear people talking about the prices. I was having $16 lunch specials but the dinner menu had no problem starting any and all prices at $20. Hmm.For many years Thai restaurants have had to compete with Chinese and they've done so by offering more nuanced flavors at rock bottom prices. But why would a restaurant that's a nice place to have a healthy tasty dinner feel forced to offer inexpensive entrees? You see what I mean? Yet ---- if some place like the Thai Spoon Cafe offers almost as good Thai at noticeably cheaper prices that matters. So I can recommend Benjarong, yes. Would I take visitors here? Yes, but only if they really wanted Thai and didn't want to drive far. This establishment needs to re-evaluate it's menu (and pricing) and change this B+ recommend to a straight A.
Be the first to ReplyIt's so good here that i cry when i leave.
As for the other bad reviews...these people are cheap and must not cook. I ran One of the top celebrity spas of the world and I'm telling you, I know good food as well as good massages and people who leave crappy reviews must have a crappy life....go take your unhappiness home to yourself please! this restaurant is full of nothing but hard labor and love!!! I cook the soup at home so I know how much work is involved it's very labor-intensive isn't easy m...it's worth the money trust me and with the staff with people who can remember my name like Tan deserve nothing but kudos!

I love that they have really delicious cocktails :) they also have indoor and outdoor seating.l another plus! The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. When my family goes here we always order the pad Thai and pad see ewe. It's our favorite.
Be the first to ReplyI got the Green Curry and it was excellent.
Great flavor and perfect spice level. The wife got the Pad Thai and she liked it enough but both of us thought it had a strange bit of sweetness to it and didn't care for that aspect of it. Neither of us would order that dish again. The prices are a little on the high side but I think the portions were larger than most. Overall a good experience and we would go back there again.

Benjarong has the best Thai food in town! I love everything I've ever ordered. The food is flavorful and so yummy. The best thing is they will make almost any item vegan for me and my family. The staff are all so nice and make you feel very welcomed. Friday evenings they have music on the patio which allows for a fun time.
Be the first to ReplyWow, this place did not disappoint.
Not a expert on Thai cuisine but I've tasted a few in other states and so far in Cali this one is definitely a keeper! Alcoholic drink menu is amazing and they taste phenomenal. The phad see ewe with tofu was delish & as well as the spring rolls. My friend had the beef broccoli which he said was good (but who eats Chinese food at a Thai place) but he also ordered fried rice and he said that was amazing. They have a great outdoor area - I heard they sometimes have entertainment. Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyI like the service.
The owner of the restaurant personally took our order and made us feel very comfortable. She recommended a hot pot with coconut milk and chicken and it was delicious. My friend ordered fried rice and it was also delicious. I ordered drunken noodles with beef and you have to order it when you can. Very good coming from a person who used to hate Thai food. I now love it!!!!

2nd time trying to eat here and they are only doing takeout. We showed up over an hour before closing and were told we could not be seated. We were informed they determine when to stop serving based on foot traffic that day..will not be coming back.

I loved every bite, almost ate the whole plate of the pad see ew all to myself lol also the manager was great! Had great memory when taking our orders and gave great service. I will definitely be coming back! :D thank you.
Be the first to ReplyI hate leaving bad reviews for "small mom and pop shops"
I hate leaving bad reviews for "small mom and pop shops" but the people of Redlands LOVE this place and I don't think my words would affect this place at all. Arrived on a Tuesday evening to grab a quick dinner with my sisters. We ordered an appetizer, 4 entree's and two bowls of soup. Our total was about $156 before tip. I know I shouldn't expect thai food to be reasonable all the time, but the prices felt high and everything we ate was very bland/mild. We requested for green thai chilis, and all they had was some sort of salsa verde. As someone else said in their review, this place is white people thai food. I won't come back unless someone I know really wants to go back. You're better off at Thai house (Redlands), or Orchid Thai (Highland)The only plus side from all of this was that our server was excellent, she was trying her hardest and I don't blame her for how the food taste or what the restaurant lacked.
Be the first to ReplyOMG! My friends and I waited two hours for our food.
People ordered after us and received their food before us. My pad see ewe came to me burnt. Excuse me, the waitress said "charred" and that is normal???? She was not apologetic. She was upset as if I burned the food. Will never go there again!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food .
..great ambiance... definitely a get away from the norm. Will definitely be coming back.

Food is really bland! It is over price for it not to taste good! Cocktail drinks are made good. One of our guest did receive a hot beer that was hard to drink along with second beer the glass smelled like chlorine which he had to return!
Be the first to ReplyVery nice outdoor setting.
.. plenty of seating with umbrella covering and trees. The food wasn't that good to me. I have had much better local Thia food. I took offense to the owner/manager calling my husband and and me auntie and uncle. The first time she said it I wasn't sure if I heard her correctly. Then she said it again. Not sure what she ment by calling us that but it didn't feel right. The other thing, my husband paid with a credit card using a table card reader that the owner/manger brought to the table. Instead of allowing my husband to enter the tip (he is a very generous tipper) she entered the tip amount for him. I thought this to be very presumptuous. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my ABSOLUTE favorite Thai restaurant I have been to.
I have had such great experiences with their customer service, and the food is always delightful. I made a to go order for pad Thai, and specified that I did not want it spicy. They made it spicy anyways. When I called the next day to tell them, she was very accommodating and said I could come back to pick up the correct order at my convenience. When I came back, she (I think the owner) was super nice and I will absolutely be returning to the Thai place. I highly recommend it, and this is my new go to Thai spot.

Worst pork fried rice, a few pieces of pork, a few sprigs of cilantro and less than 1/3 of a egg. Yellow curry with big chunks of barely cooked potatoes and a few pieces of chicken. Spicy orange chicken wasn't spicy and chicken was so-so. Chicken satay was unseasoned and peanut sauce was very bland. What's happened here? Usually very good.

For as high end as this place looks the food was slightly bland. Although I enjoyed the smoky flavor of the chalmaine everything else needed a lot more seasoning and spice. The service was at least OK.

This place used to be a gem but a recent experience with my family assured that we will not be coming back. Very rude staff and unacceptable behavior towards customers. No gracias

Drinks are great and haven't been disappointed by any of the food.

On February 9, 2022, we reserved a table for lunch; there were 8 of us. When reserving, we were informed that a party of six or more would require one ticket and a 20% gratuity would be attached. One of the ladies at lunch order "wrapped shrimp". After reading the menu she thought she would receive the resemblance of a deep fried shrimp based on the item's description in the menu. Instead she received something quite different (See attached photos). She politely informed the waiter that her meal was not what she was expecting and asked if she could return it. The waiter was polite and informed her that she could. She ordered another appetizer. Within minutes, the manager "Tan", came out to the table, with the plate of returned food in her hand and admonished my friend in front of our group for returning the dish. "Tan", berated my friend and stated, "It is our restaurant's expectation that the customer reads the menu before ordering." She then proceeded to ask my friend if she could read. After further berating, "Tan" stated she would, "return the food this one time but would not do it again" and that my friend "needed to make sure she reads the menu before ordering". My friend, who is a very sweet and kind individual, apologized multiple times and even stated she would pay for the meal but would not be eating it. She was provide a replacement appetizer without cost. In addition to this, we we're not presented a bill. The waiter came out to the table with a machine that looked like a handheld calculator with calculator tape, and told us the total of our bill. When asked to see the bill so we could calculate each person's meal, he stated that he did not have a bill but he could tell us how much each one of us owed. He then proceeded to ask each one of us what we had to eat. With each person, he would go back into the restaurant and come out and tell that person the total of their bill including tax and 20% gratuity. Furthermore, it did not take long to realize that the gratuity was calculated on top of the tax. This process took about 20 minutes. When some of the guests requested a receipt for tax purposes, the waiter provided them with with a calculator tape with numbers on it. There was no information regarding the restaurant's name or an itemized receipt. This restaurant is in a very nice location and the food was good. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the manager, "Tan", was extremely rude and inappropriate, not being provided a bill or receipt and being charged a gratuity on top of the taxes, lead to this poor review. We were a table of professional women out for lunch to celebrate a birthday. A company's reputation is built on their customer's word-of-mouth. Eight professional women telling their lunch experience to their coworkers and friends cannot fare well on a business. I can only hope that "Ten" is provided training on how to provide excellent customer service and the policies change so that customers receive an itemized bill and a receipt without having to request it.
