Excellent food, decor, and overall!
Food and drink menu were fabulous and delicious. Can't go wrong. The decor is gorgeous. Private room for large parties as well. Kid friendly menu and outdoor dining options too.

How is this not rated #1 in Sacramento?!? One of THE BEST Mexican restaurants I've experienced, and I eat a ton of Mexican food. The food is incredible, drinks are spot-on, and the rice is amazing! Must go!
Be the first to ReplyNot the same Zocalo we remembered…
Zocalo used to be our “go to” place when we lived in Sacramento. Because we remembered it fondly we thought we’d have dinner there on a recent Sacramento trip. The atmosphere is still very nice and the server (s) we’re very efficient snd friendly. Sadly that’s the extent of my positive review. I gave it an average but in reality it was very ordinary. The cerviche was a joke and the pork dish I had ( very forgettable) was over salted, over cooked and sad. The tres leche desert was probably the best thing we had all nite. Anyone who has the slightest understanding of fine Mexican or southwest food will be disappointed as were we. I suggest the Chef take a trip to Santa Fe to enhance his skill set.

Nice place, lots of room outside.
Order from website no waiter. Staff was artificial.
Polite but artificial. (Hi, yes , no, thank you, etc)
Would have liked to hear about specials, recommendations, alittle more “warmth”
Spent $230 for dinner. Would have liked a personal
touch. Food was good but so are many other restaurants in midtown. Will not be back.
Fun , festive and delicious
We were able to get a last minute reservation at their Midtown location on a Sunday night recently. We also found street parking . No valet available that night.
The place was decorated for Xmas. Food was very good, especially the black bean dip/mole. We ordered everything on the phone, including paying the bill. The waiter said that he could take our orders if we wanted to do it that way. It's still a little weird ordering on your phone, but I think it's here to stay. The music was pretty loud the night we were there. We were just happy to have found a yummy place for dinner.
Not a great experience
We were here for dinner, and the music was so loud it was like a night club. We were a party of 6 and couldn't hear people at our own table. We were yelling to be heard.
Then they have the touchless ordering system using our phones, which seemed kind of tacky for a nice restaurant. But this is what really irritated us: we were hosting the party, but after paying the bill, every single person in our party got a text with the itemized tab, showing the total and tip etc. Really, really tacky!!!
We'll never go there again.
Excellent experience
Had dinner here with my wife during a weekend getaway. The food was excellent… had the 3 taco plate and the carnitas were cooked perfectly. This place was non contact with everything… ordering from you phone, and paying your check. Will definitely be back…
Be the first to ReplyWeak weak weak margaritas
Great ambiance, good food, but weak weak weak margaritas.
I’d heard so much about the signature blackberry margarita so I ordered one with Don Julio. It comes in a small glass filled with ice, i.e., not much drink volume, and the bartender must have forgotten the Don Julio because it was basically a $19 mocktail. Ok, it’s very tasty, but functionally not a cocktail.
So I tried again, this time with Patron. Same same, and I’m out another $19.
If you go there don’t order a cocktail, just order a shot or two of tequila. At least you’ll know you didn’t get ripped off with a mocktail.
Location, food and service were spot on.
We stopped for lunch on a road trip. We stretched our legs walking around the beautiful grounds of the State Capitol. Zocalo had spacious outdoor seating under tents and umbrellas. Staff wore masks and we used a smart phone to order drinks and food and, at the end, pay. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious- fresh tortillas on the enchiladas, gigantic burritos, kale salad on the side. My wife had a verano bowl which she said was filling and full of healthy ingredients. The historic building and Handle neighborhood were good atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyZocalo? ZOCO-NO
Trip Advisor does not have the Folsom location listed so I will review under the Sacramento location.
I took my family to Zocalo Folsom last week. We had reservations and we were sat promptly. Due to Covid restrictions we had to use a QR code for the menu. I know other restaurants have figured out a way to have printed menus but not these folks. There are no waiters. All food is ordered through the app and is then delivered via a runner. This is where I took issue with this place. We did not have an assigned waiter so if we needed help we had to get the attention of one of the “runners” passing by. We were out of chips and salsa so we had to get up and find someone to replace them. In that case we got more chips but no salsa. The food was okay at best.
We ordered the guacamole and Ceviche for appetizers. The Guacamole was good but we did not have enough chips. The Ceviche was very average.
My Daughter ordered the Pollo Bowl which she said lacked flavor. It reminded me of something we would order at Chipotle. I had the Cochintita Pibil. The pork was very sweet and the entrée was dry. If I had a waiter they would have seen that I barely touched it. I did have to ask for the tortillas that came with it. By that I mean I had to get up and find someone. My wife had one of the taco plates which she said was okay. Our salsa that we wanted with our chips finally arrived (when we didn’t need it).
The margaritas we good. Again, all of bar was ordered through the app as well.
I do not know about most people’s expectations but for the price they charge for Mexican food I expect some sort of service. This order on the phone and their dump and run is not service. It is something I would expect at a fast food restaurant. When I went to pay the bill there is a service charge. I could select 18%, 20% or 22%. 18% minimum for a kid to dump our entrees and run off? No one came by to see how we were doing. No one explained how to order. We had to get up 3 different times to get items for our table. That is worth 18%? Maybe I am just “old school” with an expectation of some level of table service for a pricy restaurant. No thank you.
Amazing food and staff
I loved the interaction with the staff members, specifically Guillermo. It reminded me how much of an impact the staff has on your experience. The food and drinks were also amazing, I got the veggie bowl and the mangonada, both of which were delicious. I can’t wait for the restaurant to go back to a full-service option.
