Wonderful flavors and choices
Definitely a delightful departure of cookie-cutter US Mexican food, while still having the same concepts. For example, I had the enchiladas mole - hardly a radical departure, but the flavors would rich and the chicken moist. One of the best I've had. My wife had the chicken with four chili sauce - again, surprising, flavorful and delicious. We went for the Capirotada for dessert, and it did not disappoint.
Be the first to ReplyA Great Place for Mexican Food
If you want a great place for Mexican food extremely close to Downtown Los Angeles, you need to come to YXTA COCINA MEXICANA. The restaurant is set in an almost warehouse looking environment, with all it’s charm. Francesca greeted us and brought us to our table. We were immediately approached by Amie, who not only was extremely friendly and cordial, she was also knowledgeable. She was quick to offer us the specialty drinks. She took our drink order (the mango margarita?…oh my)! She brought us the drinks very soon after with, along with a big bowl of house made tortilla chips….these are the best that we ever had. They come with a house made salsa, which was so flavorful. We didn’t have to wait to long at all for our meal. We had tacos and wow, were they good. They are served on a bed of chipotle mashed potatoes, which was a flavor treat on your pallet. Amie was so very attentive. She made sure that we had the best experience possible…and we did. You gotta check out YXTA. Your taste buds will thank you.
Be the first to ReplyNOT BAD INSIDE, BUT BE CAREFUL OUTSIDE
Attended a work luncheon and was surprised at the choice because of the surrounding neighborhood. DO NOT PARK ON THE STREET as your vehicle is subject to vandalism by the many homeless and vagrant people occupying the sidewalks. I can only imagine what it is like at night. The food was only average Latin cuisine. I've had better and I've had worse. Nothing really stood out. The atmosphere is a little noisy (although it might be quieter in the evening). Not sure if I would return for lunch, but I would definitely be reluctant to visit at night.
Be the first to ReplyVery good quality and pretty ambiance
The spelling of the restaurant name confuses the spell checker but we certainly weren't confused about the quality that this higher-end Mexican restaurant offers to its patrons! The creative Mexican cookery combined with the lovely restaurant ambiance led to an enjoyable culinary experience. There is no dish on the menu that will taste anything like what you've come to enjoy (or not) in a usual Mexican restaurant. Even the guacamole has a twist by including serranos and spicy pepitas within the mash. The Mexican salad with cotija pesto bread crumbs and agave-lime vinaigrette speaks for itself! The chicken and steak dishes gave our party of six plenty of variety to choose from. However, the dearth of obvious vegetarian courses affected our party's opinion regarding the breadth of their food; in fact, the menu isn't particularly large (aside from chicken and fish) so that would account for the lack of vegetarian options too.

Of all the Restaurants to chose from this one was a “hit” with college and HS kids. Fabulous guacamole, margaritas, and tender carne asade. The owner Jesse was very hospitable and let me have the suisa sauce for enchiladas normally a lunchtime item. Normally I skip dessert but the churro ice cream and flan was my favorite dessert this year. Maybe next time we visit he will have added Texas style queso to his menu since he has roots in Tejas.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, too bad about the neighborhood
The food, service and drinks here were excellent. It’s in a terrible neighborhood which is unfortunate. I was taking an Uber so I was able to get it and out quickly but not sure I’d park my car here. Sad that the city has such a huge issue with Skid Row and I have to imagine it negatively impacts this excellent restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyMy Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Downtown LA
I love this restaurant. I have been coming to this place for about 10 years. It does not look like a great place from the outside. But, once you enter this place, you know you are going to have a fine dining experience. The service is great. All of the dishes are fabulous. That being said, I especially love the "carnitas." They also make some great margaritas. If you are in downtown LA and are looking for a great dining experience, I highly recommend Yxta.
Be the first to ReplyYummy and very friendly and attentive staff
This place is in a shady area but worth the trip. Excellent food, service and margaritas. I had the special spicy mango margarita which was fresh and refreshing. The guacamole was seasoned perfectly and I had the chicken huarache appetizer which was very different and delicious. I travel often and am always looking for good Mexican and this was excellent. I also had three different servers and each of them was friendly and attentive.

I love this restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look like much but once you go inside it is a classy place. The servers are great and the food is delicious. There is patio seating is nice and they are great with accommodating large groups.
Be the first to ReplyNice Mexican food
This Mexican restaurant is located near some very good restaurants listed by TripAdvisor. I found it because the other ones were fully booked. It was a good find! A small but well thought out menu of tacos etc. I particularly enjoyed a tasty pork stew with some freshly made tortillas. The staff is friendly. Seems like a nice neighbourhood restaurant.
