When I was told about this dinner, I did not know about Ying Jee Club's two star Michelin rating. When I stepped in, it was clear that it was a fine dining experience. The staffs were attentive and friendly. The decor is modern and the seating is comfortable. Since we pre-ordered our menu, service was timed right. The first two dishes - crab claw and stir fried lobster - were delicious. The presentation was lovely and the dishes tasted excellent. We then had a lovely roast duck dish and my friends enjoyed them very much. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender and filled with juice. Unfortunately their signature dish, deep fried chicken in fermented beancurd sauce, felt short. The batter was on the heavy side and the marinade was weak. The next dish was a nice stir fry vermicelli (thin glass noodles) with egg, which was okay. The wonton in chicken soup with vegetable was alright too.
Of course the pricing matches its location and venue. I was not surprised but could not help wondering how they got the two stars Michelin rating. One star might be okay, but if the Man Ho Chinese Restaurant in JW Marriott only gets an one star Michelin rating, there is no way that Ying Jee Club should get a two-star rating. Man Ho is better in all areas, including service, quality of food, and decor.
If you are hosting a nice dinner with friends especially non-Chinese, this restaurant is perfect, but I am not sure if this will be the kind of place that I will go with my local friends. If I want fancy Chinese food, I will rather go to Man Ho or more local choices, like Seventh Son.
