Willard Peacock Alley Tea Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Birthday Bucket List
DC SightSeeing was on Our Bucket List for awhile, without it being about Business. I've known that the WILLARD was where I wanted to Stay, Scheduled Trip to coincide with Hubby's Birthday. The Willard Upgraded Our King Room to a View of WW1 Memorial next to Hotel & A Partial View Washington Monument also could see Side Entrance to White House. Room was very Comfortable & Very Quite. So many times I'm awakened by other Guests Slamming room Doors etc Shower was Amazing, Really Nice Water Pressure. Nespresso Coffee maker Mini Frig (not much room for Guest items) full of Mini Bar Products. NO Microwave (didn't miss it) 2 Robes plus a Pair of Slippers to Keep. Being IHG Diamond Members My Husband Elected Free Breakfast each Morning, I'm a in Room Coffee & Croissant or Muffin Person. He really Enjoyed Breakfast Daily Cafe du Parc choosing something different each day. Everyone from Front of House Bellmen to Guest Check in - Concierge & Housekeeping Staff were very Friendly & Accommodating. The History of Hotel was Fascinating & Location PERFECT !!! I will not Stay anywhere Else next Time I'm in DC
Beautiful hotel with incredible history
I loved staying here during the summer. The staff were all very nice and attentive. The rooms were very cozy and clean. I loved the breakfast, lunch, and dinner services. They also have nice outdoor seating for breakfast. I love the classical ambience and live music and tea offered in afternoon. It’s interesting to note how the poet Julia Ward Howe first wrote the Battle Hymn of the Republic when staying in one of the hotel rooms in the mid 19-century, reflecting this hotel’s incredible historical legacy.
Iconic building but not an iconic stay
Such an iconic property. Common areas and patio cafe are amazing. Rooms are old and tired a bit. Location is incredible. Staff is very helpful. Breakfast is just OK. Overall its not the best value hotel in DC but a good choice if you want to be just in the center
Worst hotel experience I've ever had - and it's supposed to be 5 star!
Upon arriving at the hotel I had a male member of staff lean into my car and repetitively shout in my face because I didn’t want to valet park as I was taking the car back to the hire company as soon as I’d dropped off luggage. He then proceeded to try and take my luggage out of my car when I asked him not to. As a young female I was clearly shaken by the aggression I was presented with upon trying to enter the hotel and so I reported it to reception upon check-in and they apologised and upgraded my room. I went up to my room and dropped off some luggage – room was fine. I went back down to collect more luggage and by the time I came back to my room (no more than 5 mins) there was a man in my room! After hearing someone in my bathroom (I initially thought the noise was coming from next door), I asked him what he was doing in my room and he informed me that my room was out of water and he was doing repairs; I didn’t actually know he was in my room until he came out of my bathroom when I was in the bedroom area!!! I was obviously shaken again by this having now had 2 unknown men confront me unexpectedly in the space of 15mins. I went down to reception to report this unannounced visitor. I spoke to the same member of staff and was totally brushed off. I was made to feel like a fool, being told that this man “was not a stranger” (he was to me!) and that I should expect hotel staff in my room at any given time. This is simply unacceptable and untrue. Even if the repairs were spontaneous the workman should have at least put a sign on the door to say he was in the room knowing the room was occupied and made a real effort to announce himself when he heard me come into the room. There was also no consideration to how I was already feeling given I’d recently had a member of staff shout in my face. This was obviously a factor when feeling unsafe having another male staff member in my room unannounced. It took me several hours to feel safe in my room after these 2 encounters. Eventually I decided to go down to the bar for a drink. The service was atrocious. It took 15 mins for staff to even acknowledge me (and I’d taken a seat at the bar!) And a further 10 mins to have my order taken. The drink, service and atmosphere was not 5 star. I'm fortunate enough to know what a 5 star experience is as I stay in 5 star hotels regularly and this hotel is not it. Furthermore, my bathroom had hair on the floor and walls from the previous guest, the shaving mirror bracket was loose and the walls were peeling. Overall I didn't enjoy my stay at this hotel and was disappointed by every experience I had there. The staff need to be better trained in communication and how to support and show empathy, especially when considering the safety of female guests. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a solo female traveller. The only reason I stayed at the hotel was because my husband joined me later.
Five Stars for The Willard Inter-Continental
If you come to Washington, you must stay at the Willard, if you can afford it. The lobby is great to people watch, and they have afternoon tea in Peacock Alley on the weekends. They have the historic Round Robin Bar, which is probably the most famous bar in the United States. Overall, very expensive, but very, very nice.
Subpar experience for the afternoon tea.
$120 becomes $158 with taxes and mandatory service charge. That would be fine except Heidi our server seemed more annoyed than pleasant and would disappear for long stretches of time. She was adamant that we had 2 vegetarian options (not true) and seemed put out that 2 of the party didn't enjoy their tea and asked for a different one. We had to flag down a manager to get the replacement tea. Items were tasty but tiny (the size of a quarter), eat before you go. Pretty for pictures and atmosphere but maybe the waiter ruined it with her lack of attention. Overall disappointing and would recommend just going to have a drink and snack after the tea is over.
Great property & location
Great experience. We brought our two young girls for a visit to the capital, and could not have found a better place to stay. Fantastic location - walking distance to many sites. Service was thoughtful and attentive; they have a "kid's concierge" who oversees a small library, which added a nice touch. Our room was spacious, clean and very well maintained for a property of this age. We will return.
I was a guest at the Waldorf and we had our breakfast here
I was a guest at the Waldorf and we had our breakfast here at 9:30 and it was a wonderful time. We also came for drinks in the evening around 9 pm as well. Both of which were lovely. I do highly recommend getting a reservation. This is a highly sought after location and menu, especially for high tea. The history of peacock alley is literally a place to see and be seen, people want to be here. And for good reason! The food was wonderful! The drinks are great. The coffee I'll be thinking about for months to come. Call and make a reservation for when you want to attend and it'll be fine! Just like all of the other nice places in DC. Peacock alley is no exception.
I had the pleasure of dining at the @waldorfastoriadc for
I had the pleasure of dining at the @waldorfastoriadc for their Cherry Blossom afternoon tea. As I walk in, I see the gorgeous cherry blossoms decor. I had an 11 am appointment, arrived 10 minutes early but was seated around 11:15. I started off with a bottle of @piper_heidsieck champagne and Cherry Blossom tea. Then I was presented with the tower which included different tea sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats. Some of my favorites were the Smoked Salmon Pinwheel, the Mini Lobster Roll, and the Coffee Opera Cake. I wish I had way more savory dishes!!! One of the highlights of my visit was meeting @davinejoy. She is absolutely humble and amazing!!! If you haven't seen the movie, The Holdovers run and go see it. She recently won an Oscar for it and her Oscar was well deserved!!! The Cherry Blossom Afternoon Tea experience will be offered until 6/30. You're able to enjoy this experience for $120 per person on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays at 12 pm and 2 pm. Be sure to book a reservation and tell them @chi_lebougie sent you!!!
A subpar afternoon tea experience with a pricy tag.
Because it is nestled in a hotel, direction is confusing and there is a separate line that becomes chaotic with the bustling of people moving around. The pastries are mediocre, more on the drier end, but I'm not sure if that's to somehow complement the tea, but the tea was also mediocre so it's not like they balanced out. This is definitely a place you go to once for the experience, but can probably find a better place elsewhere if you don't care for the hype of this actual location.
Nice setting in the lobby of the Waldorf Hotel.
The service was excellent and it was a whimsical experience. The tea, sandwiches and desserts were good but not sure if it is worth the price point for a repeated visit.
Savory foods, unique tea blends, Moet and Chandon, intimate
Savory foods, unique tea blends, Moet and Chandon, intimate conversations, and a harpist serenade. This was the blueprint for Afternoon Tea at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel. From calling to reserve a table for a group of eight, to the follow up received a week before arrival, they were so welcoming. Upon arrival, I drove to the front of the hotel and left my car with the valet. I walked across the lobby to Peacock Alley. There was a line at the front desk for the 3:30 pm seating. My parking ticket was validated at the front desk for complimentary parking. What stood out to me was the harp playing in the background. Everyone noticed and commented when the harpist stopped playing. It's so soothing. It dulled the table chatters. We had an enjoyable afternoon. I've indulged in many afternoon tea experiences in the area and around the world. The Willard's is one of the best afternoon experiences. Amazing customer service. Complimentary valet parking. Extensive tea selection. The ambiance was 10/10! Helpful and jovial staff No through traffic, only tea goers in Peacock Alley. If you want a quintessential afternoon tea, look no further.
I went to Peacock Alley on Sunday 4/14/24 around 6:30pm
I went to Peacock Alley on Sunday 4/14/24 around 6:30pm with a friend. We were seated, but our server disappeared. We literally sat there for 30+ minutes and no one came to take our order. Mind you, the place wasn't even busy. We were blatantly ignored. We decided to go somewhere else because we got tired of waiting. So we paid a whooping $17 for water and we left. They didn't apologize to us or anything. I was very disappointed. You would think that a bougie place like Waldorf Astoria would have decent service. I believe they are prejudice, because I noticed all the other patrons were being serviced except for us. They probably assumed we couldn't afford to dine there. I wouldn't return and I don't recommend this place.
Exceptional hotel with exceptional staff.
We took a family trip to Washington, DC and stayed at this fabulous hotel. This is an exceptional hotel with equally exceptional staff. Everyone from the bell hop to the front desk to the concierge to the cleaning staff. The rooms and property were immaculate. Definitely would stay here again.
A good option for DC
First time back after a long while (10 years+), when I stayed as a frequent guest for work. They kindly offered me the same discounted rate. I was in a large junior suite on the 3rd floor, and on first impressions the room didn't look that different to when I used to stay, but they had made quite a number of improvements - TV, minibar, etc. The beds were, and still are, super comfortable. The only major let down in the room was the air conditioning, that sounded like a jet fighter taking off (and on inspection was full of dust). Other than that, housekeeping was fine and room service fast and very good quality (although a little sad that they've got rid of the Jumbo Shrimps!). The location is simply unbeatable and the front desk very helpful. It's a shame that the door staff and valet team are not as friendly - but as a good option in DC, with a little history thrown in, the Willard is a good option.
Poorly managed place resulted my poor experience.
I was interested in trying the apple cider braised pork belly and potato mille-feuille but was still full, so I decided to get take out, pick up myself, and eat it later in my room. Mind you I did not receive room service or dine in service. On top of that, it took a really long time for my orders to be ready while we were told it would be ready in 15 minutes. However when I got the check, there is a pre-included gratuity of $8 which does not make any sense. The host passed along the message from the manager that "all take out (self-pick up) order automatically includes gratuity". Before this was settled, the host said I don't need to sign the check yet and will get back to me. After all, when we finally took the food back to the room, potato mille-feuille order was wrong (we received a mashed potato looking thing called au gratin which is nowhere on the menu)! Pork belly was dry!
Blossom Time in DC
Exceptional - as always. Perfectly placed for sightseeing and a welcoming place to come home to after a busy day. If you are lucky, you may be allocated a room where you can see The White House. The blossoms in DC are spectacular and not to be missed. You will certainly get your 10,000 steps in each day as there is so much to go and see in the area. The hotel staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you welcome.
For our first lunch in DC, we decided it would be quicker
For our first lunch in DC, we decided it would be quicker to eat at the hotel before we ventured out to explore the sights, so Peacock Alley is where we went. It's in the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria with a beautiful cherry blossom tree, modern blue couches & lots of marble with crystal chandeliers throughout. We called the front desk to see if a reservation would be needed & we were told that hotel guests may just walk in. When we arrived, I saw how busy it was with tea service & were nearly turned away by the host before we mentioned we had just called & spoke to the front desk. This was frustrating, but they decided to seat us at the smallest table right next to the host stand. We weren't offered the tea service menu since they only have a limited number of reservations for this on the weekends, so we ordered sparkling water, juice & coffee & were given these promptly. However, we had also ordered 2 Caesar salads with grilled chicken & these took an hour to arrive. We had to flag down the restaurant manager because our server was too busy assisting other tables. Compared to our dinner at the Bazaar, the service here was quite absent & left a lot to be desired.
I stopped in after taking a tour of the Old Post Office.
I had some time for lunch prior to a scheduled tour and questioned how long it would take for lunch. I was assured the salad I wanted would take 19 min to prepare. Unfortunately, the staff clearly forgot about me, and 3 of them were talking in front of me nearly 30 min after I ordered about "where my order was". The atmosphere was beautiful, and they were decorated for the Cherry Blossoms. However, service was incredibly slow. When my salad did arrive, the chicken was overcooked and dried out. The rest of it was fresh and tasty. I had no time to say anything, so I ate it. But then nobody came to bring me a check. I had to get their attention and ask for my bill and finally take an Uber to my next tour (instead of the commuter bus as I had planned) because I was so late now. For $48 (salad and unsweet tea), you are supposed to be paying for the experience and excellent food. I felt service was lacking and the food not worthy of that price tag. The setting was beautiful. So come in and take a few pictures, maybe order a drink, then move on.
