I usually write my reviews in chronological order, but I want to cover Vérité while my taste buds are fresh! Like the saying goes, you save the best for last. After visiting over twenty wineries in Napa and Sonoma, we arrived at Vérité and discovered a war zone, we had to walk over debris, "dead bodies", and struggled to find the tasting room, it was due to construction, they are actually in the middle of building a new facility. Luckily Pierre saved us, he walked over to us and guided us to the elegant tasting room. When we entered the immaculate tasting room we were greeted by Justin, In a matter of 3 seconds we forgot about the war zone, he poured us a glass of beautiful champagne and we all four toasted and had a nice chat, took some pictures and then got the stage ready for the anticipated moment... Before going into wine's details and technicality I have to say that Vérité was my favorite wine of the entire trip and my Sonoma FAV wine of all times! Justin set up an impressive table with 4 glasses for each of us and 3 were already poured. From left to right; La Muse, Le Joile, Le Desir, all 2014. 2014 La Muse: The wine is extra dark, full body, dense, with perfumes of graphite and chocolate, the finish goes and goes for ever. I can see this wine getting much better in 5+ years but it's hard to resist drinking now. 95+ PTS in my scale. 2014 Le Joie: The wine is almost black, dense, the body is as bold as it can get, you can also feel the graphite and chocolate notes which make me believe it's coming from the oak they used to age the wines. A persistent minerals with truffle and menthol emerge from this fruit driven (not sweet at all) Cabernet based blend, the complexity is so manifested that I will called this the perfect example of a multidimensional wine, it keeps on changing as time goes by and getting better & better. I would give this bottle at least 3 years but peak should happen somewhere 5-15 years from today. 98+ PTS for me! 2014 Le Desir: The wine is dark purple, also bold as the other siblings, the nose in confusing and complex, on the palate you get this infrequent combination of tobacco, black raspberry, valley mist and a touch of red bell pepper. This is the best Cabernet Franc I have ever had, coming from a non Cab Franc fan this should tell a lot, Pierre Seillan is doing a magnificent job. I would hold it for 2-3 years and drink over the next 10 or so. 95+ PTS in my tough scale. Then when we though the "party was over" Justin poured more juice in the fourth glass that was mysteriously empty until this point. I asked him not to reveal what it was so we could guess... To me it was a super complex, multidimensional and beautifully aged wine, being here it must be a Vérité wine but which one? I thought it was a 2004 La Muse because of the delicate notes and subtle combination of berries, chocolate, caramel and coffee beans. To my girlfriend it was a 2007 La Joie, you will have to read her review to see why. The reality is that we both had something right. It was a 2004 Vérité La Joie! Beautiful and what I will call a perfect wine 100 PTS for me! Despite having a handful of Vérité bottles in my cellar I never had the chance to taste any until that point, which Justin accurately pointed out "it's very risky". I have bought a few in the last year because of the consistent high scores from multiple experts as well as consumers in CellarTracker. Now I'm a fan, maybe more than a fan, I think I'm addicted to Vérité and I will run in financial distress very soon...

I've probably gone to tastings at 100+ wineries over the years, and the lineup at Verite is probably the most consistently superb I've ever enjoyed. Our gracious host Justin put us all at ease immediately, and treated us more as personal guests than customers. This isn't the least expensive tasting in the Napa area, but I can't recommend it highly enough if you love great wine and want a tasting experience that you'll remember for years to come.

Be the first to ReplyThe Verite wines are exceptional.
They offer three blended Bordeaux style wines, the first of which is predominantly Merlot( La Muse); the second of which is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon(La Joie); and the third of which is primarily Cabernet Franc( Le De'sire).Befitting the blended style of the wines the staff blends superior knowledge with a friendly and approachable demeanor.Over the last 40 years we have visited most of the best wine tasting experiences in Sonoma County and this was the best---to date.Although the wine tasting experience is best appreciated by those with sophisticated palates the staff will allow everyone to appreciate the experience.

Had an amazing time with Amy at Verite! She was very personable and knowledgeable about the wines! An awesome selection of wines and very generous pours! Quite pricey for bottles and the tasting but well worth it. My favorite was La Muse and I also loved the 95 La Joie! Amy showed us where they make the wines and taste the grapes! We even got to meet the wine maker! Overall the girls and I had a blast and I'm so happy we stopped here! We'll definitely be back!

I enjoyed the tasting with Amy she is quite friendly and we talked wines like friends! I like all their wines La Muse as Pomerol, La Joie as pauillac and Le Desir elegantly danced
Be the first to ReplyThese wines are not for the faint of heart.
They're highly complex and are ate an upper tier price point within Sonoma; though compared to many Napa wineries, they are priced fairly for the quality and number of accolades they've received from Robert Parker, who is the person you want to listen to when it comes to Bordeaux blends. What makes these wines so exceptional is that characteristics of both the dominat and blending varietals are on display. This quality is maintained even during tougher vintages. There's so much complexity and structure to these wine are capable of evolving over 15+ years. If you can't overcome the temptation, look into purchasing from their library selections so you can experience these wines with some age. You'll be amazed at how they evolve. As for tasting, the experience is as great elegant and classy but not opulent or stuffy. The tasting room is rather unassuming compared to other wineries and that is part of the beauty because it allows you to relax, and for the wines to be featured. The hosts are very knowledgeable and highly experienced. If you're a Bordeaux fan, this is a must experience because it showcases just how much is possible on this side of our pond.

If you're a wine lover, please do yourself a favor and make a reservation to taste at Verite ASAP. I'll note that the wines here are quite pricey (along with the tasting fee) so, you'll want to have a bit of "wine prowess" before sitting at their table. Verite has more 100pt scores than any other winery on the planet and guess what?! It's located in Sonoma County. Yep, not Napa. Sonoma for the win. Those 100pt scores come from Robert Parker who I think is the most trusted source in reviewing wines. FYI, These are some of the best Bordeaux style blends in all of the United States/world. I called last week to make a reservation for Sat. and much to my surprise, there was an event at the property that day. Dumb luck I guess. They were nice enough to include me on the invite and I was very much looking forward to what they had in store. Verite is located outside of Healdsburg in the wine AVA of Chalk Hill. A bit further north is Alexander Valley, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the area. It's stunningly beautiful. Upon arrival I was greeted with a glass of rosé made by Vertie winemaker's daughter. It was Cabernet Franc based and perfect for the start of the tasting. It also paired well with the amount of sunshine out that day :) Inside the facility you could taste the 2006, 2013 vintages of the Verite wines. I should note that they make 3 wines: La Muse (which is mostly Merlot), La Joie (which is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon), and Le Desir (which is mostly Cabernet Franc). All of these wines include the 5 Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petite Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, making them red blends. I'll keep the review of the wines short and sweet. Epic. The 2013's were powerful, balanced, and just...amazing. The 2006's had age, grace and plenty of structure left to age another 10-15 years. Mind boggling. All in all, what an experience! I must thank the staff, the chefs, the winemaking team for such an extraordinary day. These are the reasons I'm out of the wine business because in my wildest dreams I could never make wines like Verite. :)

Unfortunate situation a month ago when I called to make a reservation over the phone and after they asked how I heard about them I said I worked at a winery and was told no industry discount would be applied which I was totally fine with but was then told she needed to check with her boss so she wouldn't get in trouble for booking me, then I could only come at a specific day and time if I wanted a tasting because I was industry. I may be in the industry but I'm also a wine buyer and they will never receive my business or any one I know. I appreciate elite properties but not judgmental staff! Your owned by Kendal jackson stop acting like screaming eagle.

I usually don't review wineries, but my experience at Verite was so extraordinary. The winery is a little hard to find (all the best things in life are), but it's worth the drive. Luckily it's by appt only, which gives you the advantage of a completely private tasting in the beautiful tasting room at the most gorgeous dining table. I walked in and my tasting glasses and "accoutrements" were already beautiful set at the table. The wines were absolutely amazing, the staff were so friendly, and the vineyards outside are stunning. I'm desperate to come back!
