We stopped in for cocktails only while we waited to go to a different reservation We had. We sat at the bar and enjoyed great service and a good show from the kitchen. After reading the menu, watching how clean and efficient the kitchen was and smelling the food, we were disappointed we weren't eating there. It's a very cool vibe, intimate setting with a great staff. We are planning a trip back to Brooklyn just to try this place. Quiet neighborhood that feels very safe.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, incredible food.
Had a pork chop with jalapeรฑo cheddar grits, one of the best meals of my life! Server recommended a lovely wine as well.

The cozy vibe is just perfect for a weekend brunch and their pancakes are to die for! Love the staff. This is our favorite brunch spot in Brooklyn. Pro tip: make a reservation for the Fireside dining for an extra cozy experience in their quant basement.

I've been coming here for about ten years and it's been consistently excellent. The menu and the vibe is very classic Brooklyn mixed with Hudson Valley farmhouse. The food is amazing both for dinner and brunch. I've seen so many local celebrities dining here and it can be a bit of a scene, but that's not a bad thing because the food is the star here. It's great for special occasions, group dinners and cozy romantic nights downstairs by the fire. I hope I can continue to be a patron of Vinegar Hill House for the next ten years.

Love the staff. The food is lovely and they really cater to the seasons with their thoughtful, fun menu. Love the small town historic feel of the restaurant. Great ambiance. LOVE the brunch. Fireplace downstairs is fabulous when it's warm. Would recommend, it does get busy so try to make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyI have been coming here for twelve years.
I have NEVER had a worse experience than the way I was treated . I paid $8 for what was explained as a bread basket. They brought 1 slice of bread I was charged double for one order of cheese When I called and spoke to the beverage manager, Amber, she refused to put me in contact with the head manager, was rude, dismissive, and then hung up on me like a little two year old What a way to ruin a fantastic relationship over bread. But really over arrogance. Then, the restaurant would no longer answer the phone. Can you believe that? I wonder what happens when someone really complains over their dinner. A simple apology would have sufficed. The owner should be embarrassed but, then again, the fish rots from the head, now doesn't it

Overpriced, fairly average restaurant passing itself as a hipster foodie destination. I went years ago and was impressed, but maybe I was more easily impressed at that time too. I went this weekend and was disappointed. The prices are outrageous - the $8 bread appetizer was a single slice of nothing special. In any other restaurant it would have come free. The signature dish of cast iron chicken was similarly disappointing - what should have been half a chicken was instead two bone-in legs. It felt like scraps that they had gotten on sale at C-Town. The pork chop was delicious and perfectly cooked, but it wasn't a $50 pork chop. We won't be returning.

Came for the pancakes since so many lists on Instagram claim they're the best in NYC but disappointingly overpriced. The seasonal sourdough pancake is super thick, interior looks fluffy but actually tastes very doughy/stretchy, uncooked/custardy, not cakey like a traditional pancake. Almost has a savory flavor that reminds me of a scallion pancake lol but you definitely get the funky sourness too. The top is browned nicely but not crusty or crisp, surprisingly the maple syrup had more flavor than the butter. I'm glad they offered a smaller size option! The smoked trout plate was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The trout was actually really tender and just a little fatty to add softness. The crรจme fraiche was a great pairing and honestly would have been excellent on the pancakes to add brightness. Cute woody ski lodge farm vibes! Overall felt like something for the rich white folk. The quiche looked like it was 1/2 the size for 2x the price of what I used to get at Tatte in Boston

One of my favorite restaurants! Went there for a second time last night and loved every bit of it. The area and the restaurant itself are so quaint and charming. I love the small open kitchen and cozy ambiance. The service and the food was staged out perfectly. Everything we ordered was truly spectacular: house martini NO. 3, bread and cultured butter, charred octopus, cast iron chicken, oyster mushrooms, and Guinness chocolate cake is a must buy! (the pork chop is amazing as well) Definitely will be dining here again.

Lovely intimate ambiance. Delicious food. A special place. I've had a number of dinners here, special occasions and date nights, all terrific.

The woman who greeted us at the door was so welcoming and warm. There wasn't a table available but she had us check back shortly after and made a space for us. Food was A+, service A+ and just overall great Sunday brunch vibes!

A friend of a friend recommended this spot and unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. The staff come across as very artsy and fluffy, it didn't feel like genuine service. Food was ok but expensive for what it is. I will not be returning.

Fantastic restaurant! I came for brunch and had the herby quiche and omelet filled with mushrooms. Everything was well made and delicious. It's also just a cute spot to have your morning coffee at the bar. I'm definitely coming back to try the packages.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I've had in ages.
Be sure to try one of the cheeses: the housemade crackers are amazing. We also had the grilled octopus, one of the pastas, the trout, and the chocolate cake. Everything was great, and the waitress was terrific. Beautiful space.Only gripe was that the space is small, so it does get noisy. But this was just a sign that people were having a good time, which is always a great thing. Will be back again! For pancakes!

We arived 10 minutes early for our 7:30PM Christmas Eve reservation and waited at the bar for 45 minutes until we were seated. The front of house never once checked in with us during this wait or apologized. When we asked for proactive updates, we were brushed off and told the dining room was "too cozy" so the tables weren't clearing. During our entire wait at the bar, we saw only one table of two vacate the dining room, which was taken by a couple who walked in 20 minutes after us. When we were finally seated downstairs we noticed that 2 of the 5 tables were empty, 1 of which remained empty during the entirety of our dinner. It took us another 20 minutes after being seated before the waiter came over (which we had to flag him down to do). The food is good, but surely not worth the abominable service.

Don't let anyone tell you this isn't the best apple pancake in the great United States. Truly mouthwatering in every bite. It almost resembles the soft consistency of a cream brรปlรฉe or a cheesecake - and the top and bottom is griddled from the cast iron. The sourdough starter fills the batter with savory richness and the apples are perfectly thinly sliced and compliment the batter wonderfully.

The grilled Octopus was not bad, but overall the food was slightly salty for me. The portion is relatively small, so I recommend ordering up to 3 menus for two people. I've ordered Field Greens Salad / Pasta things

Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I went to Vinegar Hill House for my birthday.
He let the restaurant know in advance and as soon as we walked in, the lovely hostess handed us each a glass of sparkling rose to celebrate the occasion. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the evening extra special! The ambience at Vinegar Hill House is modern but also intimate and cozy. A great spot to bring a date, friends or family, but probably not a large group. My husband and I shared the cheese plate, winter squash salad, rigatoni and cast iron chicken (out waiter recommended this as one of their most popular dishes). Every bite was phenomenal, but I think the rigatoni was our favorite. We will definitely be back!

I used to walk by Vinegar Hill House all the time when i lived in the neighborhood and always meant to try it. Took a few years, but I finally made it. I'm happy to say it was worth the wait and I was an idiot for waiting! I didn't take pictures of the interior, but it's very cozy and there's a great garden in the back for outdoor seating. Even the bathroom is charming! For brunch, we shared the wonderful, melt in your mouth sourdough persimmon pancake (smaller size, $14) and the porkbelly sandwich (the flavor is unmatched). Can't wait to come back!
