Verse Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Last night was my specials lady's birthday and for dinner
Last night was my specials lady's birthday and for dinner she chose Verse. I wasn't aware of the theme of the restaurant but to my surprise it also serves as a live music venue. Now don't think the house of blues, this is a legit fine dining establishment that just so happens to have bands playing in the background. We had a 6:30pm reservation and our group was seating immediately. I also learned that the owner of the restaurant is the same person who at one point owned Larrabee studios which is where some of your favorite albums were recorded. Ambiance: 5/5 Walking in from the outside I was not sure what to expect. Upon walking in you immediately feel a very relaxed vibe. The restaurant was dark but cozy and had smooth jazz playing when we first arrived. Later in the evening they had a young lady come in and sand R&B. As I mentioned there are speakers tastefully tucked away so the sound is amazing. Service: 5/5 My waiter was Arthur and he was fantastic. We asked for some course recommendations and everything he recommended was spot on. Not only that but his enthusiasm while explaining each dish was commendable. It definitely made us all excited to try the food Food: 4/5 Braised Beef- Honestly with all the other dishes I didn't expect much but this is a silent killer. The meat is super tender and flavorful. Portion size was just enough to fill you up without feeling bloated. Pork Belly Risotto- Amazing. The pork belly had a nice charred bark on the outside which texturally worked very well with how tender the pork was. Flavored extremely well. Risotto is risotto but as they go this was one good, not great. Iberico Pluma - I was super excited to try this dish because I've heard iberico pork is the mother of all pork. It was good and very tender but surprisingly I enjoyed the pork belly way more. Great flavor on the meat but I think I would've preferred it be a little more charred or cook longer. Lobster tagliatelle - Good not great pasta dish. Sauce profile seemed a little bland but nothing a little salt didn't cure. Would've liked to have seen a little more meat in the dish. Oysters - delicious and very fresh. Not sure if they were Kumamoto but they were the smalller type which I prefer. In addition to mignonette they brought some other dipping sauces that included house made Tabasco and some other house made ones that were all delicious. This spot is definitely a welcomed addition to the NoHo arts district. It's a dining experience you'd expect in Hollywood without having to drive to Hollywood and im sure I'll be returning in the near future.
Cute hidden gem in Toluca Lake, the atmosphere is very sexy
Cute hidden gem in Toluca Lake, the atmosphere is very sexy with a beautiful lay out. They have live music and the service is not bad...(Was I impressed not really ) but it did the trick. The parking here can be a bit tedious as it Is Street parking, not sure if they offer Valet on busier nights as I came on a Tuesday. We started off with some drinks and the Hokkaido Milk Buns. The buns were very tasty and were rightly paired with some brown butter, the drinks on the other hand needed some work (Whiskey sour& Espresso Martini) myself and my party were not so happy with the drinks. We ended up ordering the Aged Yellow Tail Crudo , Peruvian scallops as our starters and those were divine the yellow tail was so flavorful we had to order two! We proceeded to order the Mushroom Linguini and the Australian Wagyu Filet with a side of roasted corn. The mushroom linguini was simply perfect every bite full of flavor, the wagyu was not my favorite but the fried yucca it came with and Shishito peppers to me where the best part of the dish, it was great idea to order the roasted corn soooo soo good. Overall a good experience 9/10 I would come back :)
After countless times of me telling myself I need to Yelp
After countless times of me telling myself I need to Yelp more, my experience tonight at Verse had me headed straight to Yelp once I got home. Our experience was hands down 5 stars, from the food, drinks, service, music, and vibe. Our server, Arthur, could not have been better. He was attentive, pleasant, and polite, and all of his recommendations were on point! Everything he recommended was everything I had my eye on. The table ordered: Tiger Prawns Hokkaido Milk Buns Oysters Pork Belly Risotto Braised Beef Iberico Pluma Lobster Tagliatelle A variety of libations, and we finished it off with the olive oil cake. Everyone tasted a bit of everything, and it was all done to perfection...my favorite, though, was definitely the Pork Belly Risotto. The music and vibe were perfect, and I couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate my birthday with my favorite people. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back soon. Well done Verse, you definitely have a few new fans

I love the food and ambience here! The milk buns are sooooo good + the lamb pasta... to die for! They have a wide variety selection of wines as well. Highly recommend for date night vibes or just a night out. The service was great too! Honestly no complaints. I will be back forsure
Food was great.
The place was hard to find but when you get in, wow! love the ambiance and our waitress was "the best". She was engaging and just simply amazing. Always around to offer her service. I didn't get her name coz I came a bit late from my group. Let me just say, we gave her a good tip

* Update based on the below response* Numerous things to point out here. First, we received a text message on the way confirming that we will still be attending. We confirmed that we were, didn't receive any calls or texts back when we were on the way. A restaurant that requires a credit card to book, btw. Second, though we arrived at 6:15, we were aimlessly looking for parking for over 15 minutes, eventually giving up and parking in a loading zone. Third, I cannot believe that I am being told that there was "no choice but to seat other customers." If you are booked over a week out, how are customers walking in to try to snag a table? They're just trying their luck and somehow, someway, at 6pm on a workday, someone walked in and took our table within 9 minutes? As we saw when we waited in the loading zone, plenty of parties left as we scrambled to look for another reservation at a different restaurant. Not only could the team have told us to wait 10 minutes extra (which we would've been happy to do since parties were leaving) instead of pointing us to an empty bar, but they could have been a liiiiiitttle more accommodating when they saw the note on the reservation saying "WE JUST GOT ENGAGED. THIS IS OUR FIRST NIGHT OUT TO CELEBRATE." My fiancé went out of his way to book at your restaurant, to give you business on our special night. But the alleged claim "restaurant that focuses on customer service" couldn't be anymore misrepresentative of what we experienced. I hope no one else has to experience what we did in the future.

We went here on a whim for a date night - they were fully booked but we went early (around 6pm) and they were able to seat us at the bar. The location is unassuming on Lankershim, between random buildings, and you wouldn't know this place is here if you weren't looking for it. The crowd seemed to be of the 40-50 year old range, this isn't a "young Instagrammer" spot, which is most likely a good thing for most people. The decor and vibe inside is really nice. Dark, moody, and the live Jazz music is a nice touch. We got there at 6pm and the live music was playing. The food quality and presentation is very good, but not necessarily memorable. The service is an A+...we felt very attended to and cared for by the bar staff. The food came out quickly, and we even got a port wine on the house when we ordered our dessert after dinner. Cocktails again were very good, well presented and served, but not necessarily memorable. But we only tried 2 of them. Verse is about 30 minutes from our home, and we likely won't go out of our way to visit again, but if this place was in our neck of the woods, we'd visit relatively often. Overall, it was a nice experience. Recommended if you're looking for good, live Jazz, good food/drinks and great service.
We dined here for the first time and the food was terrific
We dined here for the first time and the food was terrific and enjoyed the supper club vibe. We had the lamb and scallops. Great live music and beautiful ambience. Parking is a bit limited on the street and you have to look for the V near the outside entrance, which is barely noticeable. What a transformation of the location that used to be the Firenze restaurant. Walking inside here for the first time was like WOW! and it was packed on a Thursday night. Will be back!
This is our second time here.
We had a really nice experience the first time so we decided to come back. We took a very last minute 5:30pm reservation for our anniversary. The staff were fantastic, very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was exquisite- just as we remembered, delicious and plenty. The appetizers were tasty and great portion for sharing. We had a few drinks as well. The decor, lighting, live band, full bar were top notch. Even though this place is upscale the diners can feel very comfortable in casual attire. High recommendation for this spot. Very unassuming from the outside but delivers a dining experience like no other.

This was a solid pick for an evening out! It took a while to find (I drove past it and had to circle back), but opening the door was like stepping into a swanky alternate universe. I had fried branzino with mole sauce and charred sweet potato. I enjoyed the fish, but the side dishes were the stars of the show - crisp and spicy broccolini and a savory, creamy corn dish. No room for dessert!

Ambiance: The ambiance at this restaurant was sophisticated and alluring. The soft, dimmed lights created an intimate atmosphere, while the stylish and attractive clientele added to the overall charm. The live music performed by a talented three-piece band added a funky vibe to the experience. It was truly excellent! Service: Let's talk about ARIANA...!!! Her service was absolutely exceptional. She was not only fun and vibrant but also incredibly kind and patient. ARIANA was on top of her game when it came to the menu, providing us with detailed and helpful explanations. Her personality and sense of humor were simply incredible. We also had the pleasure of interacting with the manager, who was equally impressive, and another staff member whose name escapes me but was equally awesome. Food: Oh my goodness, the food was outstanding! Every single dish we tried was incredibly flavorful and well-prepared. The presentation was top-notch, and it was evident that a lot of thought had been put into the flavors of each dish. From the mouthwatering Milk Buns to the refreshing Apple Salad, and from the succulent Tiger Prawns to the tender Braised Beef, every bite was a delight. The Crab Pasta and Mushroom Pasta were also exceptional choices. Overall, the dining experience was truly fantastic, and we left completely satisfied.
Wow! Hidden Gem! This restaurant has it all.
Vibes + food were both top of the line. Came here for a friends bday and they were able to accommodate a large party for us. Service was attentive and every person at the table enjoyed the food. The best part is the live entertainment. There was a jazz band playing while we were there. It was romantic and sexy all at the same time. Will absolutely be back!
My husband and I came here again for our date night.
It didn't not disappoint. We love coming here. The musicians were amazing as always. They remembered us from the last time we came, and chatted with us for a bit. Super awesome guys! The food, drinks, and service were fantastic. Definitely worth the place to enjoy an intimate night out.
How had I never been here before??? Boy have I been missing
How had I never been here before??? Boy have I been missing out. We made an early reservation on a weekday and it was pretty empty when we arrived, but soon the house started to fill up. To start off, the space is beautiful. NOT what you would expect from the outside at all. It gives speakeasy vibes. They have a bar with only a few seats, but many tables in the dining room. The dim lighting mixed with the live jazz music gives the atmosphere an upscale and relaxed feel. It was so cool to see all of the owner's Grammy awards behind the stage. One super cool thing our waiter described to us was how the restaurant's overall sound was artfully designed. For example, we were seated right in front of the trumpet player and drummer. I was wondering how we would even be able to hear each other during our meal! However, we were still easily able to communicate with our server and have a conversation without any strain. We never heard any neighboring tables or clinking of silverware. It was such a unique experience! There are plenty of nerdy audio easter eggs all over this place. Ask your server about it! They will happily educate you. On to the food! Everything was delicious, however my favorites were the lamb pasta and the octopus. You've also got to try their signature milk buns. That butter is heavenly! They have a huge wine list curated by one of the youngest sommeliers in the world. That thing is like a BOOK. A wine lover's dream. The cocktail list featured unique twists on classic favorites, like their mezcal old fashioned. Important things to know: - Make a reservation! - There are time limits on the tables depending on the size of your party - You order everything at once - Prices range roughly $20-$35 a plate (but worth it IMO) Verse would be a GREAT place for a date night or special occasion dinner. Lots of locals have early evening business meetings here as well. It's definitely a place you take someone you want to impress. Service was A+ from host, to servers, to bartenders. They are doing it right at Verse! There's no signage out front so you might miss it driving by! Look out for the "V". Plenty of street parking on Lankershim.

Not sure why my first review didn't appear but we're in LOVE with Verse. Excellent food, music, ambiance and staff. Great for special moments/celebrations.

Verse, a hidden gem tucked away from the city's hustle and bustle, invites diners into a world of lowkey charm, exquisite ambiance, and attentive service. From the moment we stepped inside, I knew this was going to be a good spot. They had live music but it wasn't too loud so we could hear conversation going on. We ordered Hokkaido milk buns, salmon belly aged yellowtail crudo, tartare, braised lamb pasta, guava sorbet, tuna tostadas, and a Moonlight Sontana cocktail. My highlights were definitely the braised lamb pasta, it was so rich in flavor! Also loved the scallops which were so nice and fresh in flavor, as well as the Moonlight Sontana cocktail which was fruity and light. Personally, I didn't enjoy the tartare but that may be acquired taste. The waitress took it off our bill which was very kind. Verse promises an unforgettable culinary experience for all who seek it. I wish I took photos!
Spectacular food, Jazzy music, delicious bar.
This time around my 2nd visit the portions seemed heavier and a very good amount of food considering how much effort is in each dish and for the price! If you're hungry you can't go wrong with braised lamb pasta or braised beef! Also they gave so much roasted carrots for a side dish, my date and I were stuffed full splitting all the dishes! Much better 2nd visit! Keep in mind seafood portions here tend to be smaller and much lighter compared to land based food. Of course I always end the night on something so different is my most favorite thing to do here. Cheesecake with hybrid caviar? Most will gag at reading it but please ignore your gag reflexes, believe me, it was a wonderful balanced flavorful spectacular cheesecake! It really worked!! So two alcohol mixed cocktail drinks, one small dish, one pasta, one main entree, one side, one premium dessert will run around $240+ after tax and 20% tip. This is more of a treat yourself establishment, it's not Denny's so don't try that mindset coming here. Thank you as always, will be back again for another special occasion. Compliments to chef Oscar Torres.
Verse is somewhere that is just a vibe.
The live entertainment makes the experience incredible and the food is delicious as well. Chef is extremely kind along with the staff. If youre looking for a dinner spot with chill vibes and good drinks and food, look no further!

Great food and ambiance! Service can be a bit slow in the beginning but food and drinks come out fast after ordering.
The food was delicious and the Ambience is great.
Great for a date night. And the live music was very good!

The space was perfectly warm, dark, and inviting with shots of light to highlight decor. Big music vibes with live 2 piece the night we went but it wasn't overpowering. Food very good as were cocktails. I'm not huge on bread but the Hokkaido buns are not to be missed. Servers very friendly!
Verse is a total vibe.
Came here on a whim for an anniversary dinner not knowing anything was greeted by a very friendly hostess, and a super cool, sexy environment the dinner/drinks indefinitely add up, but for a special occasion and some delicious food this is the place to be, the handcrafted cocktails are not to be missed and go ahead and dive into the desserts. They two are a must try. They put on a good amount of special events, wine, pairings with preset meals that I've yet to try but I'm looking forward to. Now let's talk about the entertainment... With their soundproof restaurant and intimate stage setting every night they have live music accomplished, local artists, and frequent drop in stars. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend it. Enjoy.

Been here several times and it continues to impress every time. From the atmosphere to the food itself, this place is top tier. Perfect for an intimate dinner or a girls night out. It has the essence of the Great Gatsby era type supper club. The music selection is already amazing and then you add in a live band and an incredible performance to seal the deal. I haven't even mentioned the food yet! Every meal is fantastic and complex. Flavors and presentation never disappoints. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable and go out of their way to make you feel really taken care of. Hands down, the best place for a night out if you enjoy great food, jazz, and an intimate atmosphere. Highly, highly recommend.

How do you set a timeline for getting your bid accepted? I can’t wait till the actual time I want to go. I want to know at least eight hours ahead of time. How do you do that?
