Amazing food, great atmosphere!
Visiting with 2 friends we were made welcome immediately. Service remained attentive but never intrusive. The food was fantastic, particularly enjoyed then initial 4 small tasters to start, and the crab dish. We arrived at the 5pm sitting and were there for 2.5 hours, never rushed at all. It’s possibly the best atmosphere I’ve had in a Michelin place, vibrant and chatty.

Star, completely deserved! The staff is incredibly kind, the menu is imposed and so much the better We had an amazing time from start to finish. Thank you.

5 stars for the food but 2 stars for the service. We went in for the dinner tasting menu. Portions are on the shared basis, relatively small as you would expect for this type of establishment but satiating. Definitely left full. Also food was tasty and interesting. Opted for the pairing wine. The sommelier was top notch, very friendly and knowledgeable. The problem was that the food portions being small they went quickly and I’d still have most of the wine in my glass. The second we swallowed the last bit of the dish, we were asked if we were done, plates removed and the next second had the next wine poured into the glass. We couldn’t enjoy the wine experience as was constantly rushed. Had to chug the wine most of the time. Not great at all… On top of this after we’ve paid, bill being handed without asking for it, we were immediately and literally kicked out. Not the Michelin star experience I’ve experienced elsewhere. Wouldn’t be interested in returning.

Nobody knows about Variety Jones! Truly a hidden gem. Michelin starred, but very reasonably priced. The room is small, and the service is exceptional. The food did not blow us away, but it was tasty, and substantial. The wine pairing was competent.
Be the first to ReplyBest night out ever
I cannot think of ever having enjoyed a meal and a night in Dublin out as much as i did last night in Variety Jones. Keelin, Kathleen and the rest of the team were terrific ... and the food and the wine pairings ... well ... WOW!
Be the first to ReplySurprised with hype
A little overhyped for me. Went for tasting menu with wine paring. It is cheaper than other Michelin starred places but produce is on cheaper end and cooked well. Wine pairings were the same! Not very many you’d usually go for or care about again. They have a lovely story but that’s where the culinary adventure ends. Very surprised it has a Michelin star myself and one or two of my friends thought also. All the ladies thought the chef was incredibly handsome so could be worth going for this reason! I myself won’t be rushing back.

Had an amazing meal here. Food was so good all fresh ingredients cooked in front of us as we were lucky to have the top table. Flavours were really good with lots of herbs and spices. We had the wine tasting also and our server was so knowledgable about the wines. Overall a great experience
Be the first to ReplyVJ’s exceptional experience
I recently celebrated my partner's birthday at Variety Jones on Thomas St, and it was an exceptional experience. The friendly host warmly welcomed us, guiding us to our table. The delightful sommelier impressed us with a fantastic selection of wines. The attention to detail in VJ's cozy and intimate ambiance made it a gastronomic journey and a truly worth-it experience. Thanks for a memorable evening!

Amazing meal in Variety Jones again. Everything was wonderful from the greeting to poor Valeria having to chase us twice because we forgot our belongings! The food, the ambience, the paired wine and the service. We loved everything and will be back and can’t recommend highly enough! GO!!!
Be the first to ReplyGluten free dinner
The food was beautiful and most of it was amazing especially the first starter plate. However, being gluten free is becoming more and more common but there was no alternative to bread or the pastry part of the dessert which left my partner feeling a bit uncomfortable as he ate his. I couldn't have the pasta dish everyone else had but I got a plate with whole entire shrimps and rice with jalepenos, carrot and popped rice which was a bit of a weird combo and didn't enjoy it although it looked pretty on the plate. When i have been to places the same as this with a set multicourse chefs choice menu i have always been made to feel totally equal to everyone else but not here unfortunately. Didn't feel like the staff really wanted to hear any feedback as they took my shrimp plate without asking and felt like they talked over my partner at the end before he could get his words out to say how he felt. Also took the tip card machine thing away before we could leave a tip so had to leave a bit of cash. We are a bit on the conflict avoidant side and some of the staff seemed to be too which made it awkward unfortunately.

We had a very special meal at Variety Jones during our trip to Dublin. Definitely a memorable experience with excellent food and a nicely curated wine paring - appreciated the quality and quantity of food (come hungry) and generous wine pours. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyRelaxed atmosphere with hearty food
My partner and I enjoyed an interesting meal here last week. Through out the whole experience the staff were very friendly and it was much more relaxed than some of the other Michelin star restaurants. We had the 6 course sharing menu. There are no choices and you don't get a menu to look at which means the chef will choose what you eat and its all a surprise. We were told there would be venison on the menu and asked if we had any dietary requirements and anything we didn't eat, but other than picking your wine that was it! You sit back, relax and enjoy the surprises. The dishes mostly had a wonderful burst of flavour! The goats cheese and beetroot tart was one of my favourites and the venison dish was amazing!! I wasn't a fan if the cauliflower dish, but the desert was beautiful! Fresh, light and zesty after the other 5 courses. All in all we had a beautiful meal and a lovely night out.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal I've had in Dublin
...and maybe the best ever. Small room, with lovely bright artwork. Super-friendly staff, able to talk through the menu and describe each dish. The menu was a mixture of "basics" done brilliantly (spaghetti alfredo, basically a hug on a plate) and creative genius (flame-grilled cauliflower "steak" with smoked fish & roe, in a buttery sauce) Lovely warm atmosphere, fine dining without the stuffiness. Shout out to the sommelier, the wine pairings were perfect. They don't do coffee, which I'd have liked after the meal, but I guess that's because of the space a coffee machine would take up. Very minor quibble.

Brought my mum there last night. Flawless. So good. No wards. She thinks I'm a great son for finding such a gem!

Was so lucky to get the opportunity to eat here . Was hoping it would live up to the hype and it does . Amazing food service and wine . Honestly it was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had . Laid back atmosphere with incredible food and service .

First time visit and we’ll be back. Loved every part of the experience. Great food, wine, staff and ambience. Nice to experience Michelin star dining without the fine dining vibe. Really cool place
Be the first to ReplyFood and Experience is Worthy of 2-3 Michelin Stars
I have been very lucky to try different Michelin starred restaurants in the US and this was my first restaurant in Europe. What an absolute treat! I took my girlfriend here so she was able to experience a Michelin starred restaurant for the first time and I feel bad that I spoiled a lot of places for her. It was a 80 Euros for each person and you get a 6-course shareable meals. Typical to these types of restaurants, you won't be extremely full at the end of your meal, but damn we were so satisfied. All the courses are incredible, but the main ones to note were the pork chops with I believe were kale (don't remember, I had like 9 pints of Guinness throughout the day so I apologize) and the pork belly. These two dishes came after the spaghetti Alfredo which was freaking amazing already, but the pork chops took it up a notch. What was just mind-blowing was how Chef Keelan Higgs was able to make the kale taste more meaty than the pork chops themselves!! His brother, Aaron, explained that they were charred, but I swear they were made of magic or something. The cherry on top was the pork belly with chicarrones. It was incredibly tender and so tasty that I legitimately did not want to finish eating the dish. The taste was so well balanced and the smokey and creamy flavor paired with the chicharron was honestly the BEST pork dish I've ever had. I grew up in the southern part of the US so I know my pork pretty well, but Chef Higgs topped them all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I’ve been privileged to eat in many fantastic restaurants in my life. The meal last night was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. The staff were fabulous, wine choices spot on and I woke up this morning thinking about the food. I really want to eat here again

Really enjoyed the food. A series of culinary firsts for me - oysters, rabbit, kimchi all so good. Top food made super accessible
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, atmosphere and staff.
A couple of friends and I visited Variety Jones as part of a weekend away in Dublin which had cancelled a few times. We were really excited to try and food as it sounded ( to borrow a phrase from @tullamoreman 's review) fancy but not pretentious. We weren't disappointed. Booking was easy, although I didn't realise I had to respond to the reminder email to confirm we still wanted the booking. Aaron kindly rang me up to check that we still needed. When we got there Aaron greeted us.

Beautiful food, not a bit pretentious but just really special! Sommelier really knows her stuff and chose delicious wines for us. It’s just a really nice fancy neighbourhood restaurant!
Be the first to ReplySublime food but felt rushed-
The reason for only 3 stars has nothing to do with the food, but the feeling of being rushed.
I am always reluctant to give such a low score but on this occasion the really fabulous food cannot compensate for literally eating and having to leave.
Our booking was for 5pm, I arrived at 4.50 and literally had to wait outside the door in the wind and rain, in fully view, until 5pm! Odd ?
My friend got delayed with an emergency and arrived at 5.20. We had the tasting menu 6 course sharing.
The food was sublime. In particular the tapas ( 1st course). But in order to really enjoy the food it is nice to linger just a bit. But not here. The experience is 2 hours and that is it. I totally accept we were 20 mins late starting but we still shouldn’t be under such pressure.
No option of coffee or à digestive.
So I am glad I experienced it but not sure I will be going back again. It is a lot of money for a little more than 2 hours.
Great food - great Team
I entered Variety Jones as a sceptic and exited a believer - the quality of the food is amazing. The key to success here is to go with the flow - you will be rewarded. Excellent team who communicate very well. Top tip - It is very small - so you have to arrive at the designated time (not beforehand).
Be the first to ReplyVariety Jones + Roe & Co = winning combination
We have just finished our Roe & Co experience and are on cloud 9!
The Variety Jones restaurant takeover in Roe & Co's garden in the customised private dining containers was a delicious experience and one for the memory board.
The moreish food, paired with exceptional cocktails are 5* quality and worth every penny. The whole experience has left us feeling very honoured and satisfied. The staff were friendly, attentive and hugely knowledge... professional to a tee.
This was followed by a quick, private tour of the distillery and It's just a shame we couldn't spent the day soaking it up. We will return again.
Thank you and well done to all! You have banished the COVID blues with a truly wonderful experience 💙
Phenomenal
We recently made our second visit to Variety Jones and it lived up the first time. The food is honestly the best I've had in Dublin. This time round we had the tasting menu, we couldn't fault it. We were recommended a particular chardonnay and it was again the nicest I've ever had! The service is great, always checking in to see how everything is. Hopefully get to eat here again soon, as reservations are hard to get now. Highly recommend if you can.
