My boyfriend and I had a fairly enjoyable meal at Tokimeite for our second anniversary. However, it's so expensive that I expected something more from it. Starting with the ambiance - it's a nice enough atmosphere, with a long bar down one end and then a few tables down the other side. Some of the cooking is down down one end of the bar. Strangely, the music seemed to be remixes of pop songs. Having read on their website that they have three different areas in the restaurant, I was somewhat surprised that after finishing our drinks we were seated at a table next to the bar. It's a pleasant bar, and normally I wouldn't think twice about it, but bearing in mind that it's the most expensive meal I've paid for, it felt weirdly informal - definitely not like it was a special occasion. This lack of specialness was underlined by the speed at which the meal came out. I think there's something to be said for having time to savour your food and surroundings, but we were done in barely over an hour. The food was generally good but totally unspectacular. My starter was a scallop with cauliflower puree and wagyu salami (£7), which was probably my favourite of the evening. My boyfriend's starter was fried lotus root (£13), which was not at all crispy and therefore a bit of a stodgy event. We then had prawn tempura (£17 for 5 pieces) and vegetable tempura (£13 for...a pile?). I wasn't particularly impressed with these - would probably give them a miss. Finally, for our main courses, we shared pork belly (£17) and a small portion of wagyu steak (£37). Both of these were fine but forgettable. Drinks-wise, I had two cocktails, both at £15 each. The first was nicer but I can't remember the name! The second was a Rosemary Infusion, which didn't have any flavour other than incredibly sweet. Our bill came to £170, for a meal that lasted about an hour and didn't leave me full or particularly impressed. Most aspects of the experience were pleasant but nothing special. I therefore wouldn't recommend it for special occasions. As others have indicated, there are tasting menus, the cheapest of which is £55. We chose not to go for that (or the £75 or £145 ones) because we aren't sushi fans and although it would have been cheaper, we would have ended up with a few courses we wouldn't have enjoyed. I realise that's the nature of tasting menus! But just clarifying why ours was more expensive than others.
