The Seafood Bar Amsterdam Reviews from The Last Year
Nice seafood dinner
Had reservations but didn’t need them, was well informed of the food selection. Had a seafood platter and was good but different from what I’m used to. Oysters were excellent
Wonderful atmosphere and excellent service.
Vanessa was awesome we said we weren't to hungry and she helped us order. The seafood was lovely the oysters were our favorite so we ordered a few more! Thanks goes to the service and staff.
Amazing place
Excellent food, fresh fishes, beautiful design place, nice staff. Best place in Amsterdam, we loved it! Better to make a reservation!
Very good fish restaurant
I went to this restaurant with my family. I want to say that the employees are kind and the service is fast. But what we really liked was the food. Very fresh fish and sufficiently generous portions. Also very interesting recipes. As a conclusion, I would recommend this restaurant that I would visit on my next trip to Amsterdam.
Very pleasant surprise. Excellent!
I found myself there by chance and we were looking for a place to eat. I read your reviews and I was intrigued. The quality of the fish is excellent, we ate very well and the value for money is right. I was really happy!
Seafood Cravings
The best vongole I've ever had. At first, I was skeptical as they did not serve with angel hair pasta, instead it was the regular thin pasta. The taste was magnificent, full of body and aroma with generous servings of clams. There is not a slightest hint of garlic but i did manage to find an itsy bitsy one. Love! I live in Asia and the taste is different. We also ordered the grilled shrimps which was equally finger-licking good! We had a side of grilled cauliflower and decided to dip some w/ the oil at in the shrimp dish, heavenly! So grateful to be given a table since we were walk-in customers, just arrived in Amsterdam, as our last leg of tour of 4 countries in Europe. Super efficient and friendly customer service, and a very kind staff who served us. Thank you!
Great spot for fish
I really enjoyed my evening here. I ordered the cod because it was one of the cheapest items on the menu and it was delicious and filling. The staff were nice despite being very busy.
For all fish lovers, you need to sample the menu
Great customer service, lovely ambience. Generous portions. Due to its popularity, you do need to book Will definitely come back again
Yummy
We had delicious fruit de mer and champagne. Philip even peeled the shrimps and took apart the lobsters for us! Really delicious food and top service by Philip!!!!
Trip to Amsterdam Apr 2024
This is second time have visited this restaurant. The food is fantastic and delicious specially our server Sev is great. She suggested the grill octopus is the best I have ever have.
Thank you!
Thank you very much Irvan for the great and friendly service! Looking forward to next time! Highly recommend, very happy
The seafood bar - good food but may need some improvement
We went to the one in Amsterdam around 7:30p on Tuesday for dinner. The place was packed. We had a party of 12 people and were split into 3 tables of 5,5,and 2. We didn’t have to wait long for the tables. Our table of 5 ordered 3 lobster soup, scallops, salmon dish and two mix grills for 1 person each. Soup & scallops came quickly. Lobster soup was tasty but oily, very different from bisque. Scallops were fresh and good but the sauce is just ok. For the rest of food we had waited for about 40 minutes. If the mix grill comes with some plain bread, that would make the meal more complete. Overall food was great & satisfying, seafood was fresh. It’s worth the money spent. Our server Kate was friendly and helpful. All in all, this is a good place to try when you visit.
Ok but promised so much more
Having arrived in Amsterdam we were looking for somewhere to eat for our first evening and saw the Seafood bar. This is a nice looking restaurant unpretentious and welcoming. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Our waiter was lovely. Sadly the food disappointed. Whole Sea Bream was a little over cooked. The Salsa Verde was underwhelming. Crushed garlic potatoes were neither crushed or tasted of garlic. Green salad was not green and the only lettuce was chopped Romaine. Main course plates were stone cold as was the samphire accompanying the co dish. This place is busy, food lacked care which is a shame as could be really good.
Randomly walked in and was happy with my food selections.
After listening to the waiter's recommendations, I chose two appetizers: the lobster soup and octopus. The octopus was my fav. I had the Paloma mocktail which was very refreshing. Staff were attentive and the meal was reasonably priced. Would definitely go back.
Do not recommend
We visited The Seafood Bar as it was nearby to our hotel, received great reviews and looked great from the outside. However, we were really disappointed with the food. While our starters were ok (the crab cakes were really nice), it was our mains that were particularly bad. The mixed grill plate was fairly cheap for the amount of fish/shellfish you got and we also added the lobster. The lobster was over cooked and rubbery, squid unseasoned, fish bland did not taste fresh, mussels were fine but pretty small and the sauce wasn’t that flavourful. A shelled prawn and skewer of grilled prawns were also included, they were ok. To be honest the only item cooked well on the mixed grill and that tasted really good were the langoustines. I also found the spaghetti in the spaghetti vongole over cooked and too soft. I’m surprised to have read the restaurant is award winning, nothing screamed award winning when we visited! It genuinely is up there with some of the poorest seafood we have ever eaten. Perhaps we got the kitchen on a “bad night”?! I’m disappointed the kitchen would knowingly send lobster so overdone out for service. I’m glad we didn’t order the whole!!! Then I’d have felt really ripped off. Nobody checked in with us on our mains to ask us how they were and by the time our table was cleared the assumption was we had over ordered which we went along with as we didn’t want to cause any awkward problems for our server. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated however if you want to enjoy high quality, fresh seafood then find somewhere else!
Warmth and hospitality
What a fantastic experience. My wife and I enjoyed a cold Sunday afternoon in the warmth of the hospitality at The Seafood Bar. The Irish oysters were to die for and the mixed grill was amazing. Great service from the whole crew, particularly Saskia. We will be back.
Great Seafood and Friendly Service
The seafood was excellent and our waiter was delightful. We took a chance not making reservations because we went early (noonish), but the place was packed by the time we left.

Definitely not my sort of restaurant its ALL seafood which is to no ones surprise given the name. The place is very small and packed with tables so just walking around is a pain plus the service was on the slower side given that it wasn't super busy at the time. I don't eat seafood so I had a beer and the rest of my party ate and really seemed to enjoy it given its short comings.

Our experience was just as good as the first time we went, which was at a different location. We happened to pop in during happy hour and was able to get oysters basically half off. We were seated immediately despite not having a reservation. 2 dozen oysters, Fruits de Mer for 2 and 5-6 drinks later, our total ended up being around ~150 euros for 3 people. Personally, I felt it was worth it because we would've spent way more in the US, likely double + tips. The food was really good, we were stuffed by the time we left. Service was fine, our server was friendly but not too attentive. Highly recommend if you like seafood!
Food was ok, but the service really made the food tastes
Food was ok, but the service really made the food tastes less good than it should. Lower your expectations. Unfriendly service, make sure you look your bill through when you pay, because they might " accidentally " over charge you and won't even apologise for it! We ordered a grilled octopus as starter, a mixed grill for 2 ppl, a beer and a bottle of water. I think overall it's not a small bill, but maybe it didn't meet their expectations, as they were really not nice to us. The waitress who took our order took the order of the table next to us immediately after ours, I could just see the waitress had a totally different attitude towards the next table, because we are foreigners.?Somehow the next table got their food way ahead of us even though they had ordered after us. The starter tasted ok, but very small portion. The mixed grill was ok, but some shrimps were not fully cooked, the waiter said " it can be eaten raw but I will go to the kitchen to make sure they cook it well ", excuse me? It's called mixed grill not sashimi platter. I ordered it because I can not eat raw! Then we wanted some fries, so we told a waiter, 15mins later no fries so we asked him again, he had forgotten.. After all the experience we had we just want to leave soon, not wanting to stay for another drink. We paid and left, but on our way out we realised that they might have over charged us. So we went back to ask for the waiter to check our bill and we were right! So the waiter just give some cash to us, and didn't even apologise. I wanted to say something about their service but I think its useless to say it to someone don't even apologise for what they did.
A very clean restaurant.
We did make reservations the day before since we saw it packed the previous nights we walked by. The staff are efficient and nice. We had the Lobster Soup and Crab Cakes to share. The Lobster soup wasn't really as creamy as I'm used to but still good. The crab cakes were underwhelming. For our main course, we split the mixed grill platter which had shrimp, squid, salmon, prawns mussels and sea bass filet. All were well cooked and flavorful, although the sea bass filet still had plenty of bones which made it difficult to eat.
I'm shocked.
This restaurant is not only highly recommended on yelp, but if you research good restaurants in Amsterdam this restaurant will likely be in the top ten of the list. That said...maybe I was there on an off day? First I will say that their service was mostly attentive and very friendly. I enjoyed the service. I love seafood. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest where I have access to fresh shellfish and fantastic salmon, cod, trout, bass and a nice selection of seasonal fish so maybe my expectations are just high? Anyway, I didn't know when I'd be able to return here so I ordered the fruits de mer for 1. The presentation was nice. However, everything on the plate had a bitter, metallic taste. The clams were the size of my nail. Where I'm from it's not even legal to harvest them this small. They tasted bitter. The periwinkle's had a metallic taste. It was off putting. The crab was so odd. The meat inside the shell came out almost chopped into tiny pieces. Not quite a purée but I'll say I couldn't pull out a whole piece of meat because it was shredded in the inside. Don't ask me how that happens. I've never seen that sort of thing in a crab before. The taste was also not fresh. So I moved on to the tiny fried shrimp with the head on. That was both bitter and metallic. The only things that didn't taste bad were the mussels and the crab salad. Then when I got home I wound up with an awful stomach ache that caused me to not be able to leave my hotel for about 24 hours....which was when I was scheduled to leave Amsterdam. Needless to say, I'm disappointed.
Our experience at The Seafood Bar was excellent.
The food was great quality and fresh. We really enjoyed the calamari, oysters, and mussels. Our server Aimee was very friendly, helpful, and even shared a handful of laughs with us. Maurice greeted us at the door, was very friendly, kind and helpful (he personally helped me identify a song that happened to be on his playlist that I had been trying to find for quite some time). Aimee was kind enough to give us a rec on where to see live music that evening and it did not disappoint. Overall The Seafood Bar was a great experience from start to finish, I will certainly return & would recommend to anyone without a second thought.

We came on a Sunday night and got seated fairly fast at the bar. It is a great setting for a group gather, family putting outing or dates. My friend and I got the fruits of the sea (7/10) to share. The platter is huge and it was plenty to share between two girls. I think for the most part, the seafood was fresh but it's definitely a bit pricy. We also got a mule (10/10) which was refreshing and delicious. Our bartender was so nice and let us try the Sgroppino (10/10). We ended up ordering the sgroppino at the end of our meal, which was a nice finish.
Can't recommend this place enough.
Vibe is great, super comfortable and modern and lively. Service was top notch. Had the fruits de mer platter with the lobster and it was incredible, insanely fresh and delicious.
excellent mussels and espresso martinis.
sat at the bar on a weekend afternoon and it was pleasant and speedy.
