Nice enough - if you’re a getting a roast, order the chicken only
I visited the Pig and Butcher with my family today for Sunday lunch as it’s apparently one of the best roasts in London. If I’m 100% honest, I don’t feel like that’s the case having now visited but it’s nice enough. We all had starters, mainly the Chicken Liver Parfait and then the Braised Pigs Head. The feedback on the pigs head was it was mainly just fat which isn’t pleasant. We were all in agreement that the parfait was very smooth and a great portion size but very bland and the bread it came with was too thin. For mains we had the sharing chicken, sharing lamb, a pork and a beef so we got to try a most of the roasts that were on offer. The sharing roasts are served on these big boards and portion sizes are huge. The tables are in no way big enough for the presentation and we found ourselves decanting the food on to plates to make room and clearing almost everything we had on the tables drinks wise in order to fit. Similar to the starters, everything apart from the chicken lacked flavour. The potatoes were crispy but needed salt; the gravy was very runny, lacked flavour and was hardly any despite multiple requests for me; the Yorkshires were crispy but lacked flavour and I can speak for my beef but it wasn’t served hot and wasn’t as tender as I’d have hoped. We all tucked in to the sharing chickens which contained this green brioche crumb filling which got rave reviews and the chicken was super succulent. It’s a pity that all elements were not cooked to and seasoned to this standard. This pub is dog friendly which is nice and it’s clearly a popular place. I wish the food was better and some of the staff were a little nicer. On our way in one member of staff was clearly late for her shift so was pushing her way rudely past us and the waitress that kept bringing over our drinks looked like she didn’t want to be there and every request we made was too much to ask. My boyfriend and family would give this place a 4/5 but for all the reasons stated above it’s a 3/5 from me. I probably wouldn’t visit again for a roast but if you do choose to visit, just order the chicken!

You could taste the freshness of the food, we loved every mouthful of the Steak melted in our mouths. Serviced good, food good. Going again as loved it so much
Be the first to ReplyAverage tasting food …
After a meeting in Islington, I picked up some delicious fish from Steve Hatt .. ‘if only ever part of London had a Steve Hatt fish shop, and chose the Pig & Butcher to enjoy some lunch.
It was a Tuesday, so the restaurant was rather empty. I started with a black pudding scotch egg which was very good. The overly sweet butcher’s sauce was not to my liking. The whipped cod’s roe was more whip than fish, so rather weak in taste.
My last dish was the steak tartare; a rather strange concoction with some form of crisp obscuring the taste of the beef, and rather lacking in spices.
A very average meal.
Highly recommended
One of the best restaurants tried so far in London. Quality of food is incredible and at a really fair price! Really recommended

It was our first time eating at the Pig and Butcher and it was incredible. We had heard so many good things from friends who live locally and it definitely lived up to its expectations! The food was so delicious. Quite possibly the best Sunday roast in London. Our waiter Sam was so warm and accommodating and very funny too! Cannot recommend enough.

Be the first to ReplyLovely food, better staff but smokers allowed
Lovely wait staff and fantastic food however our food took over an hour an half to arrive because there was a table of ten before us that we’re smoking cigars and set the fire alarm off
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Sunday Roast
Found the Pig and Butcher during a search for “best Sunday roast in London” and boy I was NOT disappointed! We were visiting London for weekend and this was the highlight meal of the three days. Atmosphere was great, staff incredibly friendly and made time to chat despite the restaurant being full. Delicious wine (massive selection on wine list,) we chose a Romanian red which was not my usual wine choice but delicious. By far and away the best part of this place is the food. We had sirloin Sunday roast and I couldn’t fault it. Beef was so tender, roasties perfectly crisp and massive yorkshires. Place was heaving so you definitely need to book but if you want a good Sunday roast, look no further!
