Nice ambiance and pretty good service but the food was mostly just alright. It's good for convenience while you're staying at the resort but honestly going into town isnt too far so if I came back, I'd probably just go into town or get a quick pastry at the coffee shop For dinner:- the salsa served with the guacamole was not good, really lacking flavor- the mushrooms served in the middle of the Acorn Squash dish were way too salty. Bummer because the squash itself was quite good - the risotto served with the Scallops dish was undercooked! The rice grains were still kind of hard and my mother couldnt finish eating it- enjoyed the lobster pasta dishFor breakfast:- the avocado toast was alright but without any toppings, I can't justify the price- the breakfast potatoes were way too salty- the chai latte was not good. Too sweet and not enough spice / tea flavor- the frittata didnt have much flavor on its own, had to keep adding the salsa- the acai bowl was too sweet after a while because of the toppings, like the sweet granola- the lavender lemonade was unbearably sweet, they put way too much lavender simple syrup in it
Be the first to ReplyI love that this restaurant has a great view of the golf
I love that this restaurant has a great view of the golf course, a beautiful outdoor seating area and just like the resort, it has a calm/relaxing vibe. We came for a quick bite while staying at the resort and the service was great. The 3 stars are for the food itself...wish I could give it a 3.5...and here's why. The soup left something to be desired, because it was more of a bisque and overall just felt like I was drinking enchilada sauce. The salmon bowl was good, but not great. If staying at the resort, I recommend checking out one of their other restaurants on site.
Be the first to ReplyInconsistent, avoid the weekend brunch.
We've been to The Oak 3 times over the last few months. It is a great physical setting on the patio overlooking oak trees and the golf course. The service is attentive. Lunch was very nice on two occasions with good food and cocktails but the weekend buffet brunch was quite underwhelming which I didn't see mentioned in other reviews. They had a room full of a large spread but it was a bit uninspired and bland. I didn't feel it was fresh. Baked goods tasted a few days old and were more along lines of grocery store quality. Carved meats were a bit dry and under-seasoned. Omelette was partially cooked. Fruit was sparse. I would return for the regular lunch menu but would steer clear of any brunch buffets there as the quality is underwhelming and more fitting of a three-star hotel.
Be the first to Replynot great.
nice setting, but food came out very slow. when we asked server about order she told us kitchen was backed up. shortly order came out stone cold. they were nice about it and food came out in 10 minutes, pork short ribs were good, chicken was not really browned properly. setting Is perfect, but they need to do a better job. they did comp dessert and a round of drinks which was nice.
Be the first to ReplyStayed at the Ojai Valley Inn for 3 nights.
This is one of their main restaurant on the property. Had breakfast one day and dinner another. Both meals were terrible tasting and way overpriced. The servers were nice and professional but could not compensate for the food. Try Jimmy's Pub. The food is much better and more enjoyable.

Beautiful outdoor setting overlooking the golf course and oak trees. It was nice to see they had a decent amount of vegan options. The vegan enchiladas at dinner were really flavorful. For breakfast I had the tempeh hash without the eggs and it was so good! I also ordered the vegan banana bread. The hummus was good but the pita bread was extremely salty as was the guacamole.

What happened to The Oak? We have been coming here multiple times a year for many years and the menu and quality of the food has dropped significantly. Very sad indeed. Stick to burgers and simple choices that are hard to mess up if you must dine here. Maybe it will come back around.

We were recently on a short trip to Ojai and we found this gem from a google review. It is located in the fancy Ojai Valley Inn. The Oak is a breakfast and brunch place inside the resort, it is a little pricey but the food and the service superb! And I have to mention that they are pet friendly, we brought along our little dog and we were immediately offered a water bowl for him. Oh and the beautiful view is a bonus. Will definitely be back again.

We stayed at the Inn for a couple nights and were overall disappointed with the food here. It's such a well-run establishment, so it's puzzling that the quality control on the food was sub par. At The Oak itself, my daughter had the filet which itself was amazing. The accompanying grilled rapini was inedible. Bitter and smokey, but mainly bitter. Order the filet without the rapini, and sub in a different side from the menu. Yes, insult the chef here. Otherwise he/she will be insulting your taste buds. For breakfast, the avocado toast looked delicious, but had overpowering lemon juice in the avocado. The smoked salmon bagel was wonderful. Perfectly ripe tomato slices were among the yummy things to put on this lovely breakfast bagel.

YUMMO of course it's spendy but what do you expect? As with the rest of the resort, they take good care. I was dining alone and did feel a bit frustrated for a while when they started to get busy and they could've sold me another glass of wine if my server was better. Having said this, the food was wonderful and their portions are quite ample for a restaurant of this style. I had the burrata appetizer - with a dried cherry apricot chutney and endive in balsamic, served with some fabulous grilled bread and it was to die for. Honestly, between this, and whatever the rolls they bring right away I would've been satisfied, and left with a quite reasonable bill. But I was already committed to the pork chop so I only ate part of the appetizer and took it back to the room. (Yum later) The pork chop was so good it brought tears to my eyes. Cooked perfectly and served with roasted carrots, a Dijon Demi glacé and creamy polenta with pistachios Oooooh emmmm geee. one of the best things I've put in my mouth. Ever.

Brunch in Ojai, A stay at Ojai Valley Inn is a must when visiting Ojai, California. But even with a day trip, The Oak restaurant is the ideal brunch spot when exploring this quaint, little town. The Oak offers a daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner experience featuring locally sourced products, many of which come from our resort gardens. Al fresco dining under the pergola offers dramatic views overlooking 200-year-old Oak trees, the championship golf Ojai course and sweeping mountain vistas.Reservation is highly recommended, especially when dining on a weekend. Alynn from the reservation line was super accommodating when we ran across some traffic in LA and had to move our brunch reservation to a later time. Once we got there, valet service was exceptional and upon check-in, you're able to either take a golf cart or walk to the restaurant. We decided to do the 10-minute walk to soak in the crisp air and gorgeous scenery. Our walk was accompanied by Joshua D, who shared informative details about the resort. He was charming and helpful. Beautiful location and helpful staff, we cannot wait to schedule another trip back!

Came here for dinner with a local friend because their patio is dog friendly and they could seat us "later" (than like 6pm. Ojai does not do late dining). Interestingly, they inquired about food allergies when we made our reservation. When we showed up it didn't appear as if a reservation had been necessary at all. They originally sat us in the lower covered area which was lovely. It felt like we were on vacation. They then had to move us to the upper level because they realized we had a dog (odd since we had announced this when we made our reservation, and he was not by any means hidden when we arrived to check in...). This area was much more open to the elements. It was a cold evening, and for some reason we had to ask three times for someone to turn on one of the several heat lamps in our vicinity. They finally did so at the end of our meal.So service was... strange. The food was alright. The vegan enchiladas (sweet potato, corn, black beans, spinach, vegan mole, lime cashew crema) were misleadingly underwhelming for their $28 price tag. The avocado hummus had good texture but lacked flavor. The complementary dinner rolls were outstanding. Others enjoyed their scallops and pork chop. The wine list is extensive, and our waitress helped us select a Pinot Noir to go with our dinner. All in all, our evening was definitely made by the company we brought with us at our own table and was not enhanced by the staff or the location. Ultimately not worth the nearly $100 per person cost to dine here.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a disappointment.
First problem, was the service. SLOW, under-staffed. Second problem, the menu descriptions did not match the food. Mediterranean BAKED eggs were actually served sunny-side up! Avocado toast was greasy. Not much avocado, lots of oil added. Only 1 small slice for $19.00. View was beautiful but hard to enjoy with the amount of young kids under age four dining in the restaurant. If you enjoy the atmosphere of a Denny's, you will be happy here. Kids running around, parents on cell phones, dogs running loose on the property. Clearly, not a fine dining experience, but rather a place young families take their kids so mom can get a break at the spa and Dad can golf while kids are left unsupervised or at kids camp/art cottage. Not the tranquil spiritual exceptional dining experience we were expecting. Eat in Ojai. Much better. The Oak feels like a corporate restaurant with a corporate kitchen. We cancelled the remainder of our meals there and ate in town.
