I sat outside with a friend and the service started out
I sat outside with a friend and the service started out awesome with our server Eddie. Eddie was so kind and welcoming & made sure we got a great view of the river. Unfortunately, the service took a dive after that. I had the Bartenders choice (it was a moscow mule today) & my friend had the aperol spritz. We liked our drinks but could not get a second one for the life of us, so after about an hour we gave up and left. Great views, good drinks, hit or miss service- I'd honestly go back again simply because the views were so great!

Waiter asked if there was any allergies(which is always appreciated) and we let him know that there was a sesame allergy. We ordered the burrata and he told us he would double check with the kitchen about the allergy. He came back and let us know we were all good. Then after consuming the burrata I started to feel a reaction and looked closer to find that there were sesame seeds on the burrata. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication with the kitchen but was extremely frustrated. Ended up having to end my night early due to this reaction. Didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make a scene. But if you are going to ask about an allergy and tell the customer the dish does not contain sesame please make sure you are correct! Allergies should be taken seriously and paid close attention to.

This was a beautiful place to eat walking distance from lots of hotels in the area. You walk along the river. They have big beautiful windows. They have a coat check, nice for those heavy winter coats. Food service was also great and nicely paced. We just got (many) small plates, most of the vegetarian options since we had recently had a lot of meat. They were so good. IMO it can be hard to find places that serve great vegetables that are not trying to be meat and are not just breaded and deep fried (because of course veggies are great deep fried). I remember carrots, broccolini, beets, cauliflower--all wonderful. The crab fried rice was mediocre but not bad, just not elevated to the same level. The big disappointment was dessert. We had a mousse dome and some meringue thing. They sounded great and looked beautiful but weren't enjoyable to eat. The meringue thing didn't have much flavor and the dome was waxy. Would go elsewhere for dessert.

Had the most wonderful meal and dining experience here! The service was so on point, without being intrusive. The food was across the board absolutely lovely. We enjoyed this meal while overlooking the Chicago River, which added so much to the already well-appointed, comfortable ambience of the restaurant! Highly recommend this place to everyone!

So, funny story, I booked a reservation here on what I thought was St. Patrick's Day (Saturday celebration) and ended up being the ACTUAL St. Patrick's Day. I didn't plan to go back into River North after the shenanigans of St. Paddy's Day, but there's a booking fee if you cancel, so I came. I had a delightful brunch here! Great atmosphere. Good view of the river. Seating was not the most comfortable thing of my life, but that's literally my only complaint (and quite minor). I'd come back!

Very cute inside but I went for brunch and it was just kind of middle of the road. I would maybe come again for dinner if I really wanted to be on the water

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! I understand that my friends and I attended this restaurant on an extremely busy time but the blatant disrespect, unprofessional manner this place conducted themselves is absolutely baffling. First off they ran out of a menu item which we understood and then had to pick other food options. They had mentioned they aren't doing modifications because it was so busy but are willing to accommodate allergies. My friend DOES NOT eat pork or red meat and asked to have the bacon removed off the breakfast sandwich. Our waitress said pick something else and they cannot do that. Mind you we did not ask for substitutions or modifications but asked to not have something on the food item due to food sensitivity. After she asked us to choose something else she then proceeds to say "any other allergies other than the one?" so she could recognize there were allergies and would not accommodate that? Absolutely disgusting service and extremely disrespectful to their own paying customers.
Be the first to ReplyService wasn't well.
Waited over 30minutes for simple mimosas. Out of multiple food items when we wanted to order. DO NOT RECOMMEND coming here. I understand they are high volume establishments, but plan ahead of these things to accommodate your customers.

The best dining experience of my life is thanks to Andrew and Josh at The Kitchen. The food itself is 12/10 but no dining experience is complete without its service. Andrew felt like family from the moment we arrived and gave us the most incredible atmosphere for our meal. His recommendations were spot on but beyond that he was patient, friendly, professional, and made the meal that much better. We would return for his service alone. Josh as well, who continuously checked in on us and supplied us with food we will talk about for weeks to come. Both of these kind men deserve raises, promotions and a lifetime of good luck.

Been meaning to dine here for a while so Valentine's Day it was....the hostess was kind enough to seat us by the window with a view upon request. The ambiance is trendy, drinks are expensive but good and food is mediocre. We really liked lamb sausage in pastry puffs with greek yogurt on the bottom. We liked it so much that we placed a second order , the crab fried was very dry and crunchy? chicken was moist but lacked flavor, the sashimi salmon with egg yolk on the bottom was tasty but needs an adventurous eater. The desserts were ok, our server brought out a complimentary peanut butter chocolate mousse which was delicious and our order of Pavlova which was a huge disappointment. Overall the experience was definitely underwhelming.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome food, great service and really lovely atmosphere.
I would return for sure. My daughter who is 12 and sometimes picky even loved it.

Patrick's Day for brunch and our server Sam was amazing. Food was delicious and was a great way to kick off our St. Patrick's Day celebration!

The kitchen is one of my favorite places to visit, especially in the summer. Try to get a table at the patio, the view from there is breathtaking! I think this place has one of the best views of the river. The food is so delicious and the service is very fast. The ambience is posh and welcoming! We tried the gnoccheti, crispy cauliflower and the burrata. We finished off with the mousse dome. Enjoyed my overall experience, but I would highly recommend getting a table at the patio to make the most of your visit here.

I typically don't write reviews but had such an amazing experience here I felt called to. I have some food accommodations I need for medical reasons that I can be self conscious and anxious about. Bryan was our server and could not have possibly been more kind about this. Someone else came out with a notepad to make sure they understood exactly what I could and couldn't have. My steak and vegetables were incredible. The view is great too.

Came here for restaurant week 2023 and it was definitely worth it. Ambience was 10/10, love the view of the river and the bridge. Service was 10/10. Food value was great as well! My favorite was the starter Tiradito-- it was a raw fish, similar to a ceviche. It was so delicious, lemony and melted in your mouth. My second favorite was the chocolate mousse dome dessert. The chocolate was super rich, not too sweet-- so good that I ate my partner's half too. The crab bisque was delicious as well. Pasta was fine but a bit salty and oily. Sea bass was slightly overcooked so it wasn't very tender, but everything else definitely made up for it. The other reason why I took away a star is because I got terrible food poisoning two hours afterwards... likely from staph aureus since it's so fast onset. I suspect it was the tiradito since that's the only item my partner didn't get and he was fine. Anyway, even with excessive vomiting and diarrhea afterwards, I still loved the food. Some would say I got to enjoy it without the calories... Sad ending.
Be the first to ReplyWent in party of 2 for Restaurant Week.
The seating was great and the ambiance including the music was really great.Food portions for the special menu were great, I assume regular menu portions are slightly bigger. Overall the food was tasty and it was fun to try takes on classics and also fusion-like items.Service was good, with the exception that even though both of us had separate orders we mentioned sharing and never got extra plates, not until we asked after making a mess on the table because it got uncomfortable. If a party says they are sharing, they should not need to ask for plates. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that some dishes were a miss/not really special at all - a basic kale salad with nothing special to its taste did not compete well with some of the other dishes.Overall, I would still come back

Delicious brunch at this restaurant today! The Kitchen has exceptional service and amazing food. I've now been for dinner and brunch and this restaurant did not disappoint for either meal. The baked French toast is a must try, filled with apples and served in a cast iron pan piping hot with a dollop of whipped cream on top...we ordered 2 for the table! The quiche was tall, creamy, well seasoned and filled with delicious mushrooms. The cauliflower was crispy, a little spicy, and the pickled red onions really gave a nice fresh and tangy bite. Can't wait to return!!

I had an amazing time celebrating and chose to do Chicago restaurant week. To say I'm stuffed is an understatement. Seriously if you want your moneys worth and an amazing experience please come here. My server Brandon was so nice and honestly the best sever I've had ever (coming from a server myself) his attentiveness and just attention to detail was absolutely amazing. Everything was delicious really recommend the wine pairing if you want to get nice and tipsy while enjoying your meal :) Faves of the day were the crab bisque, gnochetti, sea bass and pork love love love highly recommend! I also tried the mussels a La Carte and it was amazing
Be the first to ReplyWe chose The Kitchen American Bistro for Christmas Eve
We chose The Kitchen American Bistro for Christmas Eve dinner. Cocktails and 3 shared dishes later we were completely enamored of the food, drinks and great service. Our server Fiona was friendly and interactive during our entire visit. We started with a house craft cocktail and Hendrix on the rocks with olives. Our first course was grilled oysters perfectly cooked with a nice char and flavor. We followed with house made Burrata and finished with a an enameled pot of delicious roast chicken on top of crispy well seasoned fries and topped with a luscious Truffle Cream sauce. The chicken dish was a perfect portion for two to share. All and all a great way to spend Christmas Eve and likely any other time you choose to visit. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyI went here a week ago with my GF and the bill was over
I went here a week ago with my GF and the bill was over $140. We order the garlic fries which came soggy and wet with little flavor, including the garlic mayo dip which was bland. We then had the savory cruller which was also just bland aside from these loads of Parmesan on top. We then had the broccolini which was the only main dish we enjoyed. Lots of smokey flavor and heaps of cheese. The last dish was fried cauliflower with carrots. Same thing again, lite on the flavor and had a hint of curry which was interesting but felt out of place for the dish. The only saving grace was the service was great, the dessert, and the drinks were great. Other than that for the price you're paying I would avoid this restaurant and recommend anything else.. Not trying to be harsh but I cannot believe I spent that much money on those dishes with next to little flavor. If you're ok with great presentation and bland food I would recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThe Kitchen is located right on the river one block over
The Kitchen is located right on the river one block over from the House of Blues. We made reservations for dinner before catching a show at HOB.The restaurant is styled beautifully. It has large windows displaying the river and Chicago. It's a large space the manages to feel very intimate. It's prettier than the pictures portray.Their menu is a little confusing when you view it online. It contains starters, side, and main dishes all listed together. From top to bottom, the selections roughly based on portion size. You need to treat their menu like a tapas menu with the dishes being served family styled. The Kitchen also offers a nice selection of craft cocktails and wine.We didn't have a bad dish. There are two standouts I'd like to mention that I am still thinking about as I write this review. First, the Crab Fried Rice is incredible. This is best rice dish I've ever tasted. It is made with fresh crab flown in daily and a sunny side up egg placed on top. Yum! The second dish is the Picanha Steak served with a romesco sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked, the sauce a nice touch without being overwhelming. Even the small salad served with the steak could stand alone as it's own selection.I highly recommend The Kitchen American Bistro. It is perfect for date night. I did notice the back of the restaurant had private rooms to accommodate large groups and parties.
Be the first to ReplyI have a highly immunocompromised daughter that could end
I have a highly immunocompromised daughter that could end up in an ICU if she got COVID. So when my work offsite chose The Kitchen for an evening meal, I attended masked with the intention of getting a take out order to eat in my hotel room at the end of the meal. My group of ~15 racked up a massive bill, but The Kitchen treated me as a second class citizen. They forgot my take out order, so after 2 hours of watching my colleagues eat/drink I was one of the last people to leave waiting for my order. When it finally arrived, the restaurant didn't have any plastic wear or napkins to even consume them meal. How in the world can a restaurant in post-COVID world not have plastic wear for take out orders??? How can a restaurant that claims to provide take out and delivery services not have plastic wear??? Waiter showed no interested in resolving the issue. If I had a customer that racked up a massive bill, I would have run to a place next door to get some plastic wear. Anyway, thanks for making me feel like crap for continuing to mask and for my finger-food style steak #classy

First time in Chicago, beautiful city! The Kitchen American Bistro was an excellent choice for ambiance, delicious food, great drinks and one of the most kind, friendly server, Andy! He made our night extra special with recommendations, great sense of humor and superb service! Shared plates were perfect size for 3, the burrata was the standout of the night!

7 of us ladies in our early 20s came here for my bachelorette weekend and I can honestly say it was the highlight of the entire weekend! Our waitress Fiona was so awesome and would even bring us complimentary dishes for us to try. The menu is intimidating but after the first bite we were hooked- every single dish was delicious. The view from anywhere in the restaurant is also beautiful. Definitely worth a visit!
