The opulent Raffle Hotel with a colonial style finishing is one of the original hotels dating back to 1887 that is still standing. Home to The Long Bar, legendary for its iconic drink- - the Singapore Sling, made famous by a Hainanese Chinese bartender. The bar itself was designed in the 1920s inspired by Malaysian plantations. Wicker fans adorns the ceiling with dark woods and comfy seatings scattered throughout making way for a casual atmosphere. Complimentary peanuts are offered and the best seats in the house are at the bar where you can observe the bartenders doing what they do best! For you history buffs- - the drink was originally crafted at a time when it was not socially acceptable for women to consume libation in public thus inspired the inventor to create a drink which cleverly disguises the alcoholic beverage as a fruit juice. And as they say, "The rest is history." While the drink comes with a high price tag and isn't anything fancy or even impressive, it's almost a "rite of passage" when visiting Singapore. It's refreshing with a nice balance of sweet and sour. If you enjoy fruity drinks, this one's for you! This historical site is a must see attraction on your tourist feat. A wait is to be expected but, it's well worth it! A great place to get out of the heat and enjoy the ambiance while sipping on your "Gin & Juice."
