Memorable stay
You could not help but be impressed with our recent 2 night stay at The George in Christchurch. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The customer service from staff was consistently of a high order, they were always keen to please. The meals supplied were of a consistently good quality, without being amazing. The fact that the hotel is in such a central location to the city attractions is a real plus. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others. In fact, we will be returning to the hotel in a fortnight to conclude our NZ holiday.

We selected this hotel based on the location on a recent overnight stay in Christchurch. We loved our time at the hotel. The staff were outstanding and were wonderful with recommendations for places to see and restaurants that were walkable from the hotel. The hotel itself was amazing. The rooms were very nice and we would definitely stay here again if in Christchurch.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous choice for Hyatt members
Wow, we are long time Hyatt members from the U.S. and have never been treated so well for our membership as we were during our one night stay at the George. Friendly and gracious staff, super room and amenities, free onsite parking and an outstanding breakfast. This is a world-class hotel in a great location across from Hagley Park and close to everything you want to see in the city. Weโre determined to return to New Zealand some day and The George will be a โmust stayโ โฆ and for more than one night.

Very happy with the size of room, quality of bed and overall comfort. Breakfast was good options and quality too. Reception was welcoming and bag support was excellent. Hotel location is central. We will be back!

The staff is very friendly. We choose the hotel for its location. The room was nice and very clean. No issues whatsoever. We stayed for only one night. We did not dine at the hotel or use any other services

The staff is very efficient and good , represents the friendliness of Christchurch, with the ease and happiness could make this as one of the best cities and hotel to return to ,excellent breakfast spread and accessibility.
Be the first to ReplyProbably the best hotel in Christchurch however....
The George is probably the best hotel in Christchurch however do not expect a five star property. Staff is friendly, rooms are well appointed and food is just ok. The hotel is very busy with what seems to be tours spending the night. Breakfast was ok, nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyBest hotel of 12 weโve stayed in in NZ
Excellent hotel. Well located. Excellent breakfast and restaurant. The staff could not have been more helpful. You even get a free Teddy bear! Very convenient for the city, museums and gallery and botanical gardens. All within short walking distance
Be the first to ReplyCentral, Quiet Location
After the devastating earthquake of 2011, I wondered if Christchurch would be a good stop on my New Zealand itinerary, but it was. The George is located about a 15 minute walk to the center of town and just a few minutes from the botanical gardens. For each of the threenights I was at The George, I walked to town for dinner. On the way, I routed myself past the cathedral and other buildings still under repair from the earthquake. There are many other buildings that have been repaired or rebuilt since then. I found the progress quite positive The George itself is a small hotel, with helpful staff, comfortable rooms, and a good breakfast. Guests can choose the buffet or order from the menu. Each option is quite tasty and satisfying. The restaurant offers dinner, but I had only drinks in the lobby bar. It is a relaxing atmosphere that I appreciated after a long day of touring.

Hotel is neat and clean, offering all modern amenities and services. Staff were friendly, extremely helpful and went out of their way to ensure a pleasurable stay. Food was very good, however, considered overpriced for breakfast selections available
Be the first to ReplyExcellent location and service in Christchurch
The George was a great place to stay with a short walk to most attractions. The rooms are very comfortable and very quiet. Wifi is good and included. Food and staff are very good. Full casual bar with special cocktails no problem. Car parking onsite with easy access to and from the one way road system.

The service at "the george" was truly outstanding - we were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked into the warm and inviting lobby from the artic temperature outside and nothing was too much trouble. The room was delightful and the location superb.
Be the first to ReplyLove the warm floors in the toilet and dressing room :)
We had a lovely big room 216. Great layout and looking out to the Hagley park. Love the toilet floor heating, is so nice when NZ is always cold. Bed is very comfortable, good living area. Big bathroom easy to operate and bathtub has jacuzzi function! But the big bathroom door design is a bit wrong as water will leak out easily. Bathtub they should give proper bath salt and not like a "tea herbal patch" :) Gym has only 1 treadmill but is working and no one is there. Only 1 day we had poor servicing of the room where tables are dirty and cups are not washed waiting for us to do it. However they can do better if they do vacuum the place daily. Carpet is obvious they probably vacuum when guest check out each time. Staff are all very friendly and cheerful. 5 nights here and we feel is great value for such a lovely place and location is just ~ 1.5km to city centre / any nice resto. Would definitely be back again!
Be the first to ReplyGreat location and friendly staff
Stayed for two nights. Room was very comfortable but walls are paper thin and we could hear neighbouring rooms. Bathroom could do with updating and a sliding door did little for privacy. Location is excellent - very close to the Botanical Gardens and a short walk to the tram. Worth staying here for the location alone. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would like to rate the restaurant but couldnโt get a booking! Room service was good.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect location
Boutique hotel lived up to its reviews. Very friendly efficient staff, meals were faultless Within walking distance to hospital which was important to us as parking is so difficult there. We would certainly go back to this lovely hotel.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful , stylish place to stay in Christchurch
The George is a beautiful hotel on the park, close to the centre of Christchurch. Staff are accommodating and very helpful and the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The restaurant is an exceptional dining experience and highly recommended. Try their bread selection! (But if you do it might be a good idea to skip straight to mains..) We tried their seafood pasta (10/10) and the steak (9/10) and would eat there again any time.

Only a one night stay but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Lovely rooms (heated bathroom floors are a must in the NZ winter) and we received excellent service in the restaurant. The 'George' bear is an great promotional idea and we made a few posts on the remainder of our NZ holiday. We are continuing to look after our 'George' bear at home in Australia now.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the location and excellent service
Service was definitely a star player at The George. And I loved the room very much. There were lots of thoughtful touches to ensure we had everything that we needed. I also liked that we could easily walk everywhere from the hotel and that it was literally beside the park.

Wonderful stay to celebrate my financeโs 40th. The Hennessy room was beautiful and very special. Staff were so accommodating and welcoming. Dined at 50 bistro, food and service were also amazing. Highly recommend

This hotel is cute and classy!. This was my first time trying the George and I will be back. The rooms are are decent size and the bear is a really cute touch. So nice to have comfy robes to lounge around in. I would have loved to have had a longer stay The high tea was phenomenal and reasonably priced for what you get. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic. Only downside was having connecting rooms just meant that the noise would travel through a lot more but the room was generally comfortable.

What a fantastic night we had celebrating our wedding Anniversary, finally got to use our voucher after getting it as a Christmas gift 2 years ago, Meal was divine, and could not speak higher of the staff. Well done and thanks you.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place - a treasure
Wonderful old school hotel. So close to Hagley Park, The City and Restaurants. Loved every minute of our stay. The service was outstanding, staff could not be more accommodating. We will choose the George as top our list next time we return to Christchurch.
Be the first to ReplyTotally awesome
Service is excellent with well appointed rooms and perfect location. We even got a free teddy beer to take away which was an unexpected bonus! Its the small things right. Great coffee and rooms were recently renovated, bed was first class.
Be the first to ReplyA special place for a special occasion
A wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary. Shower over bath was a little disappointing, shampoo bottle was watery and my husband didnโt find the bed super comfortable. But I slept well. We love the George and only mention these tiny things for the purposes of honest feedback. It doesnโt impact on our choice to return or recommend the George to others. Love the wee bear. Thank you.

We arrived to a stinking hot room, nothing was done to mitigate the room temperature arriving at the end of a warm Christchurch day. We left the window open when we went out for dinner , only to return to find the window closed and aircon changed back to stinking hot. We were woken in the early hours by druknen larrikins strolling near the hotel, certainly not the place to go for peace and quiet. The only good thing about this over priced, over rated hotel is the free car parking.
