Jazz, Food & Whiskey - What else do you need?
Tried this restaurant for a Monday evening especially for the live Jazz and came away impressed by the extensive whiskey selection and the quality of the food.
Be the first to ReplyDid not live up to expectations
Really didn't live up to expectations. Apart from the great live music, I have nothing good to say about this place. Our server was unfriendly and did not make any effort to be welcoming. The food was expensive and just ok with portions on the very small side. I had the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail expecting a jumbo portion but was served with just 4 shrimps - no bread, no garnish - so £8 per shrimp. Wine extortionately priced. Restrooms too dark and dingy. We paid a hefty amount for a very mediocre experience. Can't recommend.

Celebrated our anniversary here at a great table in the back - very private. This place is vintage NYC style and has great live music. Every night. Food was excellent and service exceptional. Loved the vibe and decor of the place. We will be back!

The Flatiron Room is a fun and unique experience. It is a step back in time with a certain 1920s swagger. You get amazingly unique live entertainment surrounded by an extremely large whiskey selection. There whiskey selection is quite extensive and our very helpful server guided my wife to a few great whiskey selections. I myself stuck with their outstanding cocktail menu.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific Lounge
I recvd a present to attend a whiskey tasting at the Flatiron Room. We arrived early and sat at the bar. The spirit section is impressive to say the least; however, since we were going to a whiskey tasting we were not about to partake. The bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He was polite and generous to share his experiences and knowledge. We enjoyed listening to him. All the while avery nice talented two person musical group was on stage performing songs. We really enjoyed the music. It was perfect for the setting. The staff was professional and escorted us to the upstairs ‘private dining or tasting room’. The tasting itself was fantastic. Again the staff was polite and interesting. We learned a lot. After our tasting we had dinner in the restaurant. The food was fine but the star here is the selection of spirits and of course the gorgeous setting. I would give the review five stars and maybe it deserves five but I’m a foodie and the food was ok. Again the music was something we enjoyed. The setting. The people. There are not that many lounge rooms these days. This is a good one. The bartender who first spoke to us sent over a drink which was really unnecessary. And so unexpected. We were not drinking any more but the thought was very nice. And we had some to be polite. Everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the bartender, to all of the staff that put together the tasting (it was through James Beard) was absolutely wonderful. They made the experience a very nice night. If you are looking for a very civilized evening in a nice setting with good people the Flatiron Room is a good place to go. Especially if you are a fan of lounges.

A must do if you're visiting manhattan! I visited with my partner this week and we had an amazing time. The live jazz music was great and the waitress offered to have custom mocktails made for us as there weren't any on the menu. The bar has a really nice chilled vibe! Highly recommend.

I wouldn't choose this place based on its menu. BUT the menu did compliment the evening well. The menu wouldn't keep me from going back. The fries and the burger were both delicious. The smoked old-fashioned was top-notch. Pierre (our server) was very knowledgeable about all things whiskey. The entertainment was much better in person than any video gave her credit for. Next time we are back in the city I could very easily see us ending up here.

Great food, ambiance, and service. The live music adds to the experience. The sphere chocolate dessert was amazing! The reception at the front desk was a little ‘chilly’ but other than that a great evening.

The atmosphere is beautiful. The food is good and the service is faultless. We went on a Sunday night and saw King Solomon Hicks. He was brilliant from the first note. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyTimeless Jazz bar
A timeless bar/lounge great for whiskey and jazz enthusiasts. With live performances and variety of whiskey flights, it's perfect 1920s vibes. Hubby really enjoyed his "Discovery" whiskey tasting flights which included rye, scotch, Irish, and Japanese whiskey. For food we ordered the steak frites, short-rib burger, and the enchiladas. The enchiladas were my favorite- bursting with flavors. The short-rib and steak frites was decent - wish it was warmer. The steak was cold by the time I took my second bite but the sauce was delightful. We finished with the 28 layer chocolate cake. The cake was super moist and not overly sweet but we couldn't finish the big slice as you can imagine.
Be the first to ReplyWhiskey bar in need of staff who know whiskey
We joined for New Years Eve. Nice atmosphere. Excellent jazz trio. Food was hit and miss. Stick to the filet mignon and other standards. My biggest complaint for what is hailed as one of the top whiskey bars in the country, is that our waiter knew very little about the whiskey they serve. He brought over a colleague when I asked a few basic questions and he was only slightly more informed. Apparently somewhere in the restaurant was staff member with more knowledge but he never seemed to be available. In the end I just ordered a couple > $100 flights from the extensive menu and they were presented with minimal information and no fanfare.

What a great little place. Live jazz. Dark & cosy interior. A real buzz to it. Amazing cocktails. The whisky flights looked interesting too. Good staff and good food. A great vibe. Our second visit. And we’ll be back
Be the first to ReplyBest Dining Experience in NYC!
This was hands down, the best dining experience we've had in NYC in ages. We knew it was one of Julie Reiner's establishments and heard their whiskey selection was unparalleled, so we made a reservation and were not disappointed! First and foremost, the food and drinks were amazing. My whiskey-loving husband couldn't get over the almost 60-page menu full of whiskey. Even as someone who isn't huge on whiskey myself, I can say that their Old Fashioned is one of the best I've EVER had. As far as the food goes, I loved the fact that even though the menu was small, there were plenty of delicious vegetarian options. You can tell they probably change the menu with the seasons, so I can't wait to go back and see what they have next time! Next, the service!! AJ was our server and he made what would have been a great night, even better. He was attentive, helpful, funny, and just a joy to chat with. We really appreciated everything he did for us. All of the other servers, bussers, food runners, etc. were great too. You can really tell it's a team effort over there. Last but not least, the AMBIANCE. It's a really cool space with small tables in front of a stage, reminiscent of the dinner show clubs of the 50s. We were seated right up against the stage, which had me a little worried at first... until the live musicians came out. They were King Solomon Hicks' band and they truly made our night perfect. Their jazz covers of the most eclectic playlist of songs were unbelievable. I'd go back just to see them again! They even took a request which was the cherry on top of a great night. I can't wait to come back here! PS - ladies, there is a shelf in each bathroom stall for your purse/drink. Why doesn't every bathroom have this?! You can tell it was designed by a woman - thank you, Julie!
Be the first to ReplyThis was a fun night!!
The vibe here is amazing with the highlight being the jazz band playing lively 20’s tunes (on this particular night). The decor is low light high vaulted ceiling … stunning bar area and small tables up front. A great dining experience great food, service is attentive and timed well to the 2 hour time limit. Special shout out to AJ who gets our vote for favorite server and now tied with the 1985 Innsbruck Austria server who also went above and beyond. Reservations are a must. We’ll be back!! Oh wait!!! … make sure you get that 28 layer!!! chocolate cake with 4 different chocolates AND chocolate Armagnac sauce!

Incredible food drink and music. Live trio - vocals bass and piano were the best I’ve ever seen. Request AJ for waiter - I dare you.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic night
What a fantastic night we have had at the Flatiron room. The atmosphere and the vibe is great. Wonderful place to listen to Jazz with the look and feel of what you would expect in a New York jazz club. The music was really great and the night was made even more special by the wonderful and attentive service of AJ, the best service we have had in New York. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New York and looking for an excellent night club. P.S. don’t forget to ask for AJ to get the best service.

This was the perfect place for drinks with my mama!!! AJ looked after us so fantastically it made us want to write this review. He made us feel so welcome and was so friendly and helpful we could have chatted and drank all night - if my mum wasn’t jetlagged 🤣 we googled drinks with live music in NYC and this was the perfect find. The style of the bar is so cool and the mezcal cocktail was delicious. Thank you AJ and the flat iron room! Please visit this place if you want great live music, an atmosphere and beaut cocktails xxx
