🤢 2/5 - A special day ruined

Booked weeks in advance for a special farewell Sunday lunch as we used to value the quality of food. Our booking was for 2pm and two of our party arrived 10 minutes earlier only to find that the table that was reserved for us upstairs was taken by another group. We were sat at another table and did not mind or complaint about anything, even when our cote de boeuf was served with cold roast potatoes & veggies, but then, we were asked quite firmly twice within a few minutes time by two different members of the staff to finish and leave as they needed our table because the next booking had arrived - apparently they had too arrive much earlier as we’d been hardly 1h 40 min there and our table was booked for 2 hrs. No mention or suggestion by the staff to continue with our dessert and drinks downstairs before we decided to complaint about how rude it sounded to be asked to leave well before the 2-hour period allocated to parties of 3 and more as per the restaurant’s policy. On our way out with the most bitter feelings about our experience, we spotted many empty tables that we could have been offered to stay proactively and with a warm smile when they announced that our table was needed back, instead of engaging in a very unpleasant debate with the staff that involved counting the exact remaining minutes of our reservation. I think when a paying customer starts feeling a nuisance, the game is lost and the business should take time to check how they operate and what they ask their staff to communicate to customers. Needles to say we won’t be returning to Draper’s Arms after this.
