😒 3/5 - A bar with good food

We went to Bywater last night with some friends who had been there before. They had described it as "a bar with good food" and I would agree. We had a reservation but went early in the hopes of getting our table earlier; if now, we planned to wait in the bar and have a drink. After about 10 minutes we were offered a table out on the patio. Given that it was in the high 40's we were a bit iffy about that idea but tried it anyway since they assured us there were heaters and we would be warm. There are in fact heaters, and the top half of our bodies was warm enough...in our coats. The two members of our party who sat with their back to the open space leading outside were colder than those of us who sat against the bar. There could be a door, even a hanging kind of door like you see in the east coast, to prevent the cold wind from coming in. I would not sit in the patio again in winter.
Service was a bit disappointing. I wanted something sparkling, and the suggestion (I think by the bartender) was a Kir Royale. Great, I thought, but wait...they don't have cassis (a key ingredient). Fine, I went with a prosecco...they don't have that either but they gave me a sparkling wine that was fine. One of my friends order a vodka tonic with 2 olives. His drink came without the olives. It took asking three other servers, and waiting until halfway through our dinner before the olives showed up (thank you to the server who brought them to us). The menu is small, and when 2 of us wanted the shrimp and grits, we were told that the shrimp had not arrived that day. Ok, sometimes that happens. At the end of dinner, we ordered beignets. Nope, they were out of those too. I can understand when a vendor doesn't come through, but beignets are made with ordinary ingredients that can be found at Safeway. How can they not have beignets?
My husband and I had the fried chicken and it was delicious. We started with the shrimp and avocado remoulade, also delicious (although the mustard used is hot, so if you don't like that don't order the dish). Our friends had the asian noodle dish and the herb and green salad, also very good (although I don't see how the asian dish fits in with cajun...Cajun Asian?). Due to the lack of Beignets we went home for dessert.
In summary, while we enjoyed our food, the experience wasn't as good as we expected. When you have a small menu of choices, it's important to have all of those options available. We spent $50 per person, with each person having 1 drink, we paid corkage for one bottle of wine, we had two mains and 2 starters for the 4 of us. It wasn't a $50 per person dinner (although it was probably half that if you take out the alcohol). I kind of had the feeling that their feeling was "it's Sunday night, not that many people will come, so let's not over order our supplies". That may not be the case, but that's how it made me feel. I probably won't be going back.
