A traditional, relaxing and welcoming American restaurant
A traditional American restaurant that I always enjoy. It has a nice relaxing and welcoming vibe. My wife and I stopped in for an early dinner. They had a real wood fire going in the fireplace (not gas). There is a small bar with a few TVs and a couple of small tables. The dining room is a decent size and they also have a party room in the back. They bring fresh rolls, bread sticks and coleslaw for every table. Their menu is pretty significant and diverse. I had the spaghetti carbonara. It was a huge portion and was excellent. My wife wasn’t very hungry and only ordered French onion soup. She said the cheese was very good but the onions could have been better. The staff was very nice.

Had lunch there many times and was always satisfied with our meals and service. The prices are fair so we make a point of going there often.

We are on a Road Scholar adventure and one feature of this trip is that almost all the meals are included and tonight we ate at The Briars.
Service was excellent ... food was tasty ... experience was great.
Our group was over thirty people

We came for lunch and the food is very good.
First, this restaurant has been here since the Ark and we wondered why it took so long to get here.
French Onion soup was perfect, not too salty.
Italian Wedding soup was delicious, even the small Meatballs were delicious.
A Seafood Napoleon was incredible and the Meatloaf was outstanding. Brown Mushroom gravy, mmmmm.
We were coerced into Lemon Cake for dessert, wonderful.
Eat here, you will not regret it.
Need to drop in here more often
I have never been disappointed with my dining experience at Briars over the years. It is a great, traditional American bar restaurant. A well maintained standalone building with plenty of parking. Nice wood tables and chairs inside, along with a working fireplace. They have some stained glass style windows that separate the main dining room from the larger party room in the back. The bar has a few tables and about 8 chairs at the bar itself.
We arrived a few minutes before noon. It was pretty empty when we arrived, but it had filled up pretty well by the time we left an hour later. The staff was wonderful. Pleasant, attentive and very efficient.
This place is well known for burgers and sandwiches, but has a broader menu that includes full entrees. I had been looking forward to the Turkey Club ever since we decided to go here earlier that morning. My daughter had the Caesar Salad and an omelet (yes they had a brunch and lunch menu on Saturday). The club sandwich was just perfect and I really like the steak fries. My daughter enjoyed her meal as well.
Briars is relatively close by for us and I really need to remember this place more often.
If you see more than a few diners there, RUN! RUN FAST AND FAR!!!
Spouse and I have eaten here two times before, and had good service and food. Went there yesterday as wanted a nice meal before the anticipated storm. What a mistake!
We saw that there was a group of approximately 20 persons in the private party room, and approximately 8 people in the main dining room, but thought the restaurant was capable of handling this. Well, they were not!
There were only 2 servers-a woman I know as Jeannie from prior visits, and another server who seemed totally flustered and out of it. We were seated, and given menus, and then waited half an hour for someone to approach us. I thought of leaving, but spouse said that we are here already, and hungry, so let's see.
After waiting half an hour, we literally had to chase down clueless server to take our order, and she was so flustered that Jeannie had to come over. Meantime, clueless had slammed down the complimentary coleslaw (cabbage w/mayo) and some stale rolls.
Our orders were taken, and I repeatedly asked for coffee w/milk...and asked and asked. Meantime Jeannie was doting on the party of 8 nearby, joking with the diners, taking great care regarding some kid's desire to have her salad exactly as she has it at home.
Repeatedly had to ask for water and spouse's iced tea. Lukewarm soup was slapped down in front of us (appetizer order). Wrong salad dressing despite, again, repeated requests for the correct one.
I had asked for my wasabi salmon to be cooked through and spouse for his meat to be medium cooked. My salmon was RAW in the center and spouse's meat was bloody. I had mine sent back, clearly was shoved under a broiler. Spouse put up with the bloody meat. Jeannie was annoyed that I actually wanted my food cooked.
Jeannie spent an inordinate amount of time with the party of 8 near us. Whenever I asked for something (water or coffee refill, non-stale bread) she theatrically sighed, said that there were only 2 servers, and we have to put up with it. Funnily though, although we were treated as annoying intruders, the restaurant expected and was paid the same amount by us as the doted upon other diners.
WILL NOT RETURN. Jeannie made it clear that since she recognized us from prior visits, that we have to put up with garbage treatment.
When we wanted to leave after this mediocre (at best) meal and deplorable service, we asked clueless server to get the bill since we did not see Jeannie. Clueless was putting out napkins for the dinner diners, who were not yet there at 4 pm. She ignored us, and I literally had to chase her around the dining room for the check, while she continued to set up for non-existent dinner diners.
A restaurant has two main components: food and service. Yesterday, each was worse than the other.
Yes, I blame management for not having sufficient servers, but why did Jeannie give all her attention to a party of 8 and ignore us? It seemed she felt she could take advantage of our prior good will, good review, and lavish tips, and take us for granted.
Well, bye bye Jeannie! Bye bye Clueless ! Bye bye Briars There are so much better restaurants in the area, which we will happily patronize.
Good Food
Attended restaurant week, overall good food, service and large portion. Had escargot, tasty sauce, and brioied fish, could have used a bit more seasoning but was good.
Will go there again.
LONG HAIR In FOOD ! STAY HOME
Last night would be the finale for me to eat at this place. The food quality and service has just declined in the past few years. The prices are way too high for what you get and the atmosphere can't get any worse.
Last night while eating a cooked fried butterfly shrimp, I found a hair ! This was by far the worst thing for me while dining. I was so skieved and it was just disgusting. The owner manager blamed me and told me no one has blonde hair that works here. Meanwhile, I am a brunette. Additionally, the decor is dirty, old and moldy. This restaurant is by far the worlds worst and we deserve better in this small and thriving community. We need a place that values and respects its' patrons. This owner should go back to school to learn a few things about respecting customers, manners and business !!! I am sorry Briars but you need to CLOSE DOWN FOR GOOD!
Hidden gem!
The food and service are consistently good. A favorite among the regulars where the wait staff welcome you like family. Most dinners come with a soup or salad. Portions are large so we never have room for dessert.
