This hotel is beautiful! As a photographer, I've wanted to visit this hotel for a very long time. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. If you'd like to come here to take pictures, I recommend you visit the bar since the drinks were top-notch. From the bar, the view of the staircase is only a few feet away.

I have a few thoughts. I thought the inside was absolutely stunning. The restaurant in the lobby and the bar were very good and loved how accessible they were staying in the hotel. The theme was the best and the architecture/interior design was unbeatable. I'd say since it is a five star hotel I was expecting slightly better customer service. Sometimes I would call front desk and be placed on hold or they wouldn't follow up with requests. The housekeeper was great and went above and beyond. The rooms were a bit small but this makes sense for NYC. Overall pretty decent experience.

Architecture | Gym | Service Architecture - The place has an old NYC charm but with modern finishes. The aesthetic is upscale but with the classic early 1900s great gatsby charm. The vibe is consistent throughout the hotel, from the rooms to the stairs to the elevators and the bar/restaurant in the lobby.Gym - The Gym was surprisingly good. They had two pelotons with the traditional road bike shoe clip-ins and three cages. They have two floors for the gym. 2nd level is cardio equipment - pelotons, ellipticals, treadmills, and rowers. 3rd floor is weights, cable machines, and stretching/abs. You can get a solid workout done in the hotel. Service - They have GRADE-A Service. The place was a joy to stay at, from their restaurant to their concierge to their doormen. Anything we needed, they were accommodating. Pro Tip: It is an AMEX fine hotel - so be sure to get your points and partake in the great restaurant downstairs for brunch and drinks.

I'm a Marriott ambassador, so I spend most of my time in Marriott hotels. The Beekman is a Hyatt property, but I had read about its magical architecture, so I had to stay here to check it out.Just a few years ago, this was an abandoned, abused space where explorers snuck in to take photos of urban decay. Today, it's a fully restored masterpiece. The centerpiece of this hotel is the atrium, which houses its bar and restaurant spaces (reviewed separately). The ironwork and glass skylight make for dramatic views, day or night, from the bottom up and the top down. During special events, the hallways are lit up with special colors (such as during pride week), making it an extra special sight. The lobby is full of intricate wood and tile work. Velvet seating with dramatic colors and tasseled lighting. Art deco sconces line the hallways. The rooms are open to the hallway and the atrium, but there was no noise from the inside. There is a lot of construction going on, so if you're on that side, you will have some external noise during the day. I'm not sure any of the rooms have what you'd call "a view," but that's not why you're staying here. The rooms are both classic and quirky--full of color and high end finishes. I had a king suite. Comfy bed, crisp linens. Fully stocked mini bar with champagne and rose. 24 hour room service. Beautiful, large bathroom (mine had a tub, rain shower, and shower wand). High end toiletry products. The service here is excellent, though it's fairly formal. They accommodated me with a late checkout. I did pay an extra 45 dollars for a 2 PM checkout, and they were able to push it to 3 PM, which made all the difference for me and my plans for the day. Much appreciated! The base price of my original queen room was around 450-475. I paid 25 to upgrade to a king and 45 to get the late checkout. Before all was said and done, with destination fees, taxes, etc, my bill was almost 800 dollars (not including mini bar and room service etc).So this is more of a luxury treat than an everyday stay. Also, it's quite far down the island of Manhattan, near the financial district. New York is expensive, so always keep your itinerary in mind when booking hotels--location, location, location! But this is a beautiful and special place. Would recommend staying here at least once.

Popped in here for a quick drink while my friend did a Zara return in the nearby plaza. I was stunned by how elegant and chic it was in there, and was grateful to nab two seats at the completely full bar. The drinks were absolute perfection. Spirit-forward, but we'll-balanced, and clearly prepared by talented hands. We shared a burger, and though the lack of fries was disappointing after a few drinks (it did come with roasted fingerling potatoes though), it was still quite good. Service was efficient yet friendly, and I was happy to give up our seats to the next eager set of customers when we were ready to go.
Be the first to ReplyI am a sucker for hotels with historic character so staying
I am a sucker for hotels with historic character so staying at The Beekman for a recent weekend in NYC was a true jackpot. Seriously, I have been to 45 countries and this is now in my Top 5 all-time favorite hotels. The lobby, common areas and bar are all stunning, with a style I can probably best describe as "modern Victorian" (note: not a designer-approved term). The exposed ironwork and original (or period correct) tilework really gives the hotel a late nineteenth century feel. Thankfully the rooms seem fresh and updated while retaining an art deco vibe that really works; our room was spacious and had a great bathroom and comfortable bed. The Bar Room is very inviting with the large bookcases giving a very cozy vibe; the cocktails don't come cheap but they are very well made. The only downside of the bar is it's so good that non-guests are a common fixture, so reserving a table or arriving early evening to scope out a spot at the bar is highly recommended. The staff was consistently gracious and accommodating so no complaints there (at check in I couldn't help but overhear one of the front desk workers give an absolute master class in patiently dealing with a clearly over-entitled guest...you know the type). Room rates are not inexpensive, but this is lower Manhattan and I believe that the value is there and the property compares favorably to comparable options (though in terms of character, there aren't many comparable options). Temporary tip as of this review: a building is under construction across Nassau street, so rooms on that side will experience noise; light sleepers should inquire when booking (earplugs are an easy remedy).
Be the first to ReplyThe Beekman aspires to be a luxury hotel but falls short in
The Beekman aspires to be a luxury hotel but falls short in a couple of areas. It is a unique and lovely property inside and well located for getting almost anywhere in Manhattan. It seems, however, that most of the budget was spent on the restaurant and lobby and not much left for the rooms. Mine was fairly spacious but interior facing so very very dark. To its credit it was quiet as a tomb which is rare and valuable in NY. But the decor was unimpressive and they cheap out on things like tissues (do hotels not think guests know Costco tissues from Kleenex??). My main issue though is with the service which is generally good but falls just short of what I think they're aiming for. For instance, one morning I called the front desk to inquire about making a breakfast reservation and was told that because the reservation staff was not yet on duty I would need to walk down to the host podium. The 5-star response would have been "I will walk over and do that for you since you are still in your pj's." The next day I was downstairs and asked that some tea be sent to my room and was told that I needed to go up to my room and call room service. Fortunately someone at the front desk was more service-minded and took care of it for me.

Hadn't been here in a long time and if I could kick myself I would. What a pleasure on many levels. Outstanding service, drop dead gorgeous clubby environment and delicious food. Seating is plushy and luxurious, no crappy chairs here that have you shuffling your feet after twenty minutes because it's stuff and uncomfortable. The walls of books and the architecture is so warm and friendly. Food equally top notch. Burger with truffles was yummy but crunchy potatoes with rosemary were spectacular, friend had a chicken salad that was superb. Only wrinkle was a charge for bread ($6 for 3 slices of toasted bread). An oasis of joy and good food in the downtown financial area.
Be the first to ReplyThis was my second visit to The Bar Room at the Beekman
This was my second visit to The Bar Room at the Beekman Hotel and it was delightful. There was a bit of a wait despite having a reservation, but the bar is a lovely place to wait. I had the best French 75 I've ever had at the bar and my friend got a great whiskey sour. Once seated, we had to quickly order food before the kitchen closed at 11:00, but the waiter made sure that our dessert came out after we finished the rest of our food which was very nice. The onion dip was delightful, although the potatoes chips could have been a bit thicker and crunchier (still amazing though). The burrata with pear and hazelnuts was insanely good, very delicate flavors that I had never had in that combination before. The dessert was an apple walnut profiterole and it was delicious! My friend got a great sesame infused whiskey drink (forgot the specifics but even though I hate whiskey, I thought this was a very impressive cocktail). I had the first cocktail on the list, Jessica P. something, and the waiter described it as an aperol spritz style drink, and I love a good aperol spritz, but this drink was far superior to an average spritz. Very strong flavors but not too sweet! Overall great experience and I think I may have to become a regular here.
