Tick it off your bucket list - worth the experience
From the moment they open the door you know you are in for a treat - after having this on my to do list for over decade, it was worth the wait and every morsel was an experience. Was so delighted I managed to sneak in before the move.

Haven't been here for 13 years, but STILL did not disappoint. Greeting from the staff was warm and welcoming. Needs were attended to all night, and the food was sensational. Cocktail special was a great start to the evening, and the Hawkesbury Oysters (supplement) were some of the largest we have seen - almost a meal in itself. The Tuna sashimi to start was fresh and delicate and set the scene for the night to come. Seared Scallops with the seaweed crumb was delicious, but the tomato consomme was the star of the dish. The signature confit Australian Ocean Trout did not disappoint. Soft and smooth it hit all the right notes. We're always into our breads, and the house baked bread with Truffle butter was superb. A generous serving of abalone followed to delight the senses, And the Pork with a sweet black garlic puree started the land food with a bang! A perfectly cooked piece of wagyu with forest mushrooms was not overly heavy and served as a perfect ending to our proteins. the sorbet dish, followed by the chocolate and coffee cube, with buckwheat ice cream was a lightly balanced end to our dining experience. We opted for the matching wines which complemented each dish perfectly - even the dessert wine like pairing with the ocean trout. I'm trying to look for negatives but it is hard to find any. If i had to pinpoint a negative, ive had better petit fours - but that in no way whatsoever lessened what was a near perfect dining experience. Thank you!

Firstly, I must say that I am surprised to see reviews here which give less than a glowing five stars. Last night, I dined at Tetsuya's for the first time, after many years of intending to do so, but never managing to get there. And, pleasingly, I had one of the best dining experiences of my life. Yes, it can be argued that Japanese/European fusion is no longer the big surprise it was in the 1990s, but that is to ignore that when done as well as it is done here, it can still be a revelation. Each course of the degustation was exceptional: the Bangalow pork - cooked for 16 hours at 65 degrees, before being finished on a hibachi - exemplified the combination of great produce, technique, and imagination on display. The wine pairings, according to my wife who enjoyed them thoroughly, provided perfect matches. (As a non-wine drinker, I found easy matches from the imaginative cocktail and well-selected spirit lists). The quality of the food and drink was matched by peerless service. Special mention must be made of Manuel, a truly delightful Italian gent, who provided the most charming, efficient and informative service I have ever experienced in an Australian restaurant. I can not recommend a visit to Tetsuya's more highly. (PS: And if anyone is questioning my knowledge of Australian fine dining, due to the lack of reviews of similar establishments on my page, I should point out that this is a new account, having regrettably lost the sign-in details for one including the last fifteen years of my reviews).

One of the previous reviewers commented that the restaurant is past its prime, I couldn’t agree more. The setting of the restaurant and its service were up to par. You would receive an email reminder before the dinner, confirming the reservation details and dietary requirements, which was well noted by the restaurant. Servers, who were polite and efficient, served in a manner you would expect in all Michelin-starred or hatted restaurants. In a sense, nothing’s extraordinary. Serving time was a bit too long between dishes but given the number of tables the restaurant was serving, it was acceptable. To our disappointment, food was not impressive at all. French cooking using Japanese ingredients or French-Japanese fusion might be awe-inspiring 20-30 years ago but definitely not nowadays. Tetsuya’s failure to impress was probably due to the more discerning palate that most people have developed. Even our youngest family member (15 years old) has already been to a dozen of Michelin starred restaurants and we, over 50, definitely have been visited a lot more. The dishes presented by Tetsuya’s was lackluster to be honest. The trout was, as usual, cooked to perfection but my 2 cents, it’s no longer unique in the culinary world now. The restaurant is still expecting a full house every evening, locals and tourists still come blindly for its long-established reputation but it doesn’t mean that the restaurant can rest on her laurels.

Food is absolutely delicious and great wine list. Service is really good! Surroundings are like an old Tokyo classic and the garden view just adds to the atmosphere!

No atmosphere, no ambient lighting, white tables, no interior design, no music. Waiting between courses takes forever. I spent $600 and went home hungry. It is waist the time and money.

OK, the positives. The location is delightful and the service is very competent. Degustation service is an equation. There has to be enough food, and it has to be excellent. If there is not enough food, if the servings are particularly small, the food needs to be exquisite. If it is very good food and the servings are reasonable, it usually equals an enjoyable experience. Here, the equation , in my opinion, has dipped into the negative. The servings were small. Three of the eight courses were excellent: the sashimi, the ocean trout signature dish and the first dessert. The rest was average to unremarkable. There is a reason why the unofficial “bread and butter” course here is so joyously welcomed. (Hardly Japanese). The wine list, while extensive, was exorbitantly priced. If you wish to experience an “icon” before it closes, please go. If you wish to have an exceptional culinary experience, I suspect, like myself and my companions, you well may be disappointed.

This is the most exquisite restaurant in Sydney. I love the fresh oysters bathe in wine. The confit duck was divine. Will come back again soon.

Excellent all round. In my experience most places with this many excellent reviews are not, in fact, excellent. This was and they have a new follower. Central, convenient, great service and great food. We will be back!

Greeted by the maître d and escorted to our table our waitress welcomed us and congratulated us on our anniversary. Every fine detail is attended to including personalised menus. We had the 8 course degustation with the domestic matching wines. The service level is impeccable. Each course is explained to you as are the wines. You’re paying for an experience and that’s exactly what you get. What a memorable experience.

I doubt anyone could give less than a 5 star review. My wife took me to Tesuyas for my 65 birthday, she new I had been looking at menus and reviews for many years, I had always said it can’t be that good. How wrong I was, service was impeccable, location was superb, and the food!! The famous confit of salmon was better than I could have imagined, however it was not really any better than the rest of the meal, and to be honest the oysters as a starter were possibly even better. My wife and I have made a pact that we forget many presents and go the Tesuyas once a year.

I am glad so many people find dining here an amazing experience. That’s great for them. Ours was neither terrible nor amazing- just average. Maybe it’s because we’ve never been fine dining before and we don’t know what to expect, maybe we’re not sophisticated enough to enjoy the experience. The food was ok neither awful or fantastic just middle of the road. I think back to memorable dining experiences and what made them exceptional. A combination of bursting flavours and textures for the food, great ambience and atmosphere and great service that made you feel special. Exceptional or average is a subjective experience. I guess none of these were really present in our experience the food was fine, the ambience was muted as you might expect but there were too many tables close together so it was not intimate. The service was a mix of awkward, somewhat mechanical, not very friendly or warm but professional. Maybe that’s what fine dining service is supposed to be? As I say maybe we weren’t sophisticated enough to dine here and I am reminded of the Keanu Reeves scene from Always Be My Maybe with his ear phones on.

5of us opted for the taster menus of 8 courses and paired domestic wines. The courses included yellowfin tuna,scallops,trout,sweet pork,Wagyu beef and blueberry cheesecake. All courses were exceptional and full of flavour. The paired wines with one exception were delightful and wonderfully presented by Fabio. At a cost of over $400pp the cost is not for the faint hearted but worth the expense.

Exceptional Dining Experience
A Sydney institution that lives up to the hype. The degustation is superb with some of the most delicate dishes you will ever eat. The seafood was superb, but the pork belly & wagyu were out of this world. The service was swift, knowledgeable & full of energy as you would expect, while the wine list was extensive both local & international. We chose the international pairings this time, however I suspect the local would be more suitable for most. A very special dining experience - highly recommended for anyone looking for something unlike nearly anything else

This is undoubtedly one of Sydney’s best restaurants. I’ve been here a number of times over the years and it’s quality and consistency never fails to impress me. The staff are wonderful. Well educated and attentive. Our waiter did numerous things as we were thinking to ask. She was really first class.
The food? Look at my photos. Incredible presentation and skill in preparation. Now Tets wasn’t in the house on this visit and it’s always special when Tets visits the table but ce la vie.
The wine list is amazing but we warned. It’s possible to spend quite a lot with wine but really I’ve never left this restaurant regretting the bill.
If you want the best, it just costs a little more.
Get back in the kitchen Tets
The once great Tets is now a dream that died long ago. I couldn't believe it when they lost their third hat. But then I went back and experienced the cold service and really average food And just couldn't believe it I'm still in shock. Hey Tets get back in the kitchen before there is nothing left of your reputation to rescue. Sigh

This was our umpteenth visit to Tetsuya’s (or maybe our 8th or 9th) over the last dozen or so years and it hasn’t let us down. In fact this latest visit was among the best of a great bunch. The food is exquisite, this time more seafood including some lovely scampi , but also a fine aged dusk breast, and Wagyu. The staff were warm and friendly and not afraid to give some tips such as how to age a small duck breast in the refrigerator at home (and it worked!!!): not quite as good but not a bad impersonation of the Tets version. We went for the 8 course degustation but there is a five course version as well. Tetsuya’s has only improved over time.

It’s been quite a few years since we have dined here and I was hoping that this experience would be as enjoyable as the last. It was. We bought our 28yo niece with us for Saturday dinner. The food and service are as great as I remember. 8 + courses beautifully presented with matching wines. Mostly seafood also wagyu and duck. All delicious. A great evening thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Needless to say, 10/10! A major part of the service was exemplified by Louise, our waiter. Quality, preparation and service masterful. My partner dined there 40 years ago when it was the Suntory and the vibe is still superb! (the food is better!)
We will be back, and if we lived in Sydney we would dine there every weekend! Worth every penny! The most amazing morsels of food I've eaten in my life. Thank you!
