Food not up to par
Some might find it a fun place, but the unique interior gets tired pretty quickly. Itโs in the more seedy part of Hollywood and catered to a younger crowd. Our waitress was very sweet, but the food was disappointing. Can not recommend the Peking Duck. Worst I ever had. The cocktails were a little better. I also cannot stand unclean toiletts. Will not come back.
Be the first to ReplyUpscale Asian Experience with Lots for Vegetarians
We were really glad to have discovered TAO Asian Bistro with a reservation ahead of seeing a show nearby. Upscale asian food can be hit or miss and this was definitely a hit. We loved the cavernous space they built which felt like an old converted theater, especially as we descended to the main part of the dining room, but it was, apparently, completely created for this restaurant. The feel inside is tremendous with goddesses looking down over you throughout dinner...even entering is an experience with an impressive front door and another goddess greeting you as soon as you walk in. We loved the food too. We're vegetarians which usually isn't an issue at an asian restaurant (and it wasn't here) and we felt like first class eating citizens with the delicious food they brought, including Olive Fried Rice...what a great unique taste to a classic asian dish! The steamed bok choy also had a lot of flavor. The vegetable egg rolls looked great and tasted just okay. I also enjoyed the Okinowa Old Fashioned made with Japanese whiskey and black sugar! There are a number of other vegetarian things to choose from including tempura, other rice dishes, noodles, sides and sushi so you'll really have plenty to choose from here if that's your diet, and all of it (at least what we saw) looked elevated and luxurious. We don't live close but see this as a good destination restaurant on its own and it's perfectly situation to enjoy whatever Hollywood has to offer.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Place!
Had heard so much about this place we had to try it. Excellent food, excellent service and such a beautiful place to eat. The atmosphere was amazing. Itโs a little pricey but itโs LA . Our waiter suggested several choices to try for all four of us together as a combo dinner. It was an excellent choice. We loved the food. Will definitely return!!
Be the first to ReplyA Great Dining Experience
Came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night. All of the staff gave great service. Definitely make a reservation, otherwise you might not get a table. The bar is right there once you walk in. For drinks, I had an old fashioned, while my wife had the cucumber buck with tequila. We then had the pan fried chicken gyoza & the pork potstickers. Both were really good. Then I had the bbq duck fried rice, which had great flavor. My wife had the honey glazed salmon, which she said was okay, but could've used more honey glaze. Our server Jenna was wonderful and took great care of us. Definitely come of you want some quality Asain food in Hollywood. The bar area was buzzing as well, so plan accordingly.

Welcomed with a smile and breathtaking decor. Although we hadn't booked in advance, we were accommodated for food and drinks in the bar seating area. The lighting was dim, making it a bit of a task to read the menu. Service was attentive and food was served efficiently. Every thing we ordered was nice. Lovely evening overall, gets louder later on as the bar gets busy.
Be the first to ReplyNOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE
Be prepared to give your credit card before even having a sip of your drink or a taste your food...in case you wanna leave without paying...they also do not answer the phone, or just hang up...food is average, prices stratospheric...nice staff and millions in the decor never made a restaurant a good one !
Be the first to ReplyFantastic interior.
Fusion asian food. Bookings essential. We ordered the Peking Duck which was very nice. Being LA, car is needed, and car park is walking distance away. Good service. Worth the adventure.

Be the first to ReplyAmazing dinner at the end of our LA trip with family!
Ended our LA trip with a visit to Tao LA and was not disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful and the food/service was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening
Yes, the place is expensive but absolutely worth it. The food and drinks are amazing and as is the service. I'd definitely go back. They've got a decent valet service too. The only parts that kind of sucked was the table we got - kind of in the corner, and the washrooms could be cleaner, especially since there is an attendant in the washroom at all times.
Be the first to ReplyGreat nightlife scene.
Came in for dinner solo and sisters at the bar. The bar and lounge area was packed with people waiting to be seated in the main dining area. Service was quick and food was great.
Be the first to ReplyCorporate Glamor...another Planet Hollywood
Kids dragged me to this after we were at press event Swedish House Mafia across the street. I was a bit reluctant as there are other great restaurants in the area and I dislike these corporate dinner places masquerading as glamor magnets. It was pretty empty and waiter told us to take big round table next to stairway. Right after ordering earpiece guy comes up and tells us he needs our table. He does it politely but it was all rather rude and unsettling and we just decide to leave to eat at a real restaurant down the street. Sure enough, as we're leaving, fake "paparazzi" who were told to be there were let in so they could shoot some unknown rapper and his overdressed entourage "out on the town." It was ridiculous. A fraud and a waste of our valuable time and I'm never going back.
Be the first to ReplyExtraordinary & unique
A Thai restaurant with a theme, well designed and decorated, dimmed lights, make you feel in the far east. Specious and good for large groups. Delicious food, tasty as it should be, fair portion, a menu with lots of verity to choose from. Excellent service, high price. Highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience -- again
I have visited TAO Las Vegas 2 times, TAO New York (both) 6 times and I just love the place and food. Seated on the "stairs" overlooking the main dining area is still great seating. Its not a "cheap eat" but is all worth it. The coctails are tasty, the wine great and I just love the Crispy Snapper in Sand", the tempura shrimps, the Chilean Seabass Satay, The Chicken Gyoza but there is so much great food to choose from so its never boring. This time the service attendance could have been a bit better however he made p for it at the end by granting free dessert as a compensation for this lack of service.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Asian cuisine. Vibrant cool A-list attendance
Amazing ambiance, vibrant and chic. The place attracts the coolest in Hollywood so just grab you best garb and strut to one of the coolest places to dine and party in Hollywood. The Asian theme food is superb as is the accompanying drinks and cocktails. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Place gets very busy so booking is essential.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Dishes
We celebrated our son's birthday at Tao, and every dish was superb. There were six of us, so we tried a variety of items. Some standouts were the lobster wontons, miso black cod, Peking duck, tuna pringles, tuna on crispy rice, and Thai chicken lettuce cups. The giant fortune cookie was also tasty with hilarious "fortunes." Tao doesn't look like much from the outside, but as you enter the dining area, the place is gorgeous and impressive. Be sure to use the circle light camera by the restrooms to get a complimentary photo sent to your email. Service was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyQuite the interesting crowd here especially on weekends
It's a beautiful setting deep in Hollywood on the basement level of the Dream Hotel that attracts a very interesting crowd - a mix of tourists, young social butterflies from the Inland Empire, couples/friends starting their long night out on the town and large group gatherings for celebrations. It's a different crowd than most restaurants in the LA and Hollywood area. That said, on the weekends, the bar scene can be pretty chaotic there - once you navigate through that element, you'll find yourself in a very open and airy main dining room flanked with lights, colors and statues.
The wait staff service tries hard but doesn't always get it - by that I mean that you can tell they strive for being attentive, however, they often quickly get tripped up for some reason as its happened every time I've dined here - guessing by either totally random requests, constantly pushing their costly cocktails or just complete loss within the chaotic setting of patrons. The last example was this week when I ordered a few of the smaller side plates to be served with my entree and I had food restrictions (in that I don't eat meat or chicken) and when I inquired if some have a meat base, the server wasn't sure and said he would ask the chef. I gave pretty clear instructions on what to do in the event it contained meat, however, the server went missing for some time while our other food items arrived. Some 20 minutes later he showed up to explain that the vegetable side plates indeed had chicken stock (vegetarians - heed the call here) and that he could bring this or that instead. I reminded him what I had mentioned originally and said that he could bring a replacement for each if it was quick since we were more than half done with our entrees. It literally came another 15 minutes later which was obviously too late - with no apologies or discount. That's what I mean about questionable service as I've had other experiences.
The food is good - not over the top great as other restaurants in the area, however tasty. I highly recommend the Miso Cod and Crispy Rice although both are honestly ridiculously priced. The fish arrives as ~6 or 7 oz piece smothered in miso sauce. You can get a larger portion, healthier and better-tasting piece at a popular and exclusive steak restaurant for the same price. Their sushi and sashimi are overpriced as well and their drinks average $17-20 each. Somehow they feel justified in charging - most likely because of the ambiance. That all said, I would and have returned but I know what to expect each time.
Racist
Iโve been to Nyc location treated with so much respect . This one is racist my party was sat on the main stage because I request it on my reservation upon them seeing our skin was of color after being sat and placing our drink orders. We were greeted by security to tell us they made a mistake we were not able to move there and we will have to move to a basic table in the back on the floor . It was so embarrassing . Then the moved us only to let aCaucasian family seat in the seat . I looked in disgusted after looking around I realized all the black people was placed in the back of the restaurant they ruin my whole birthday this is them moving us from the seat
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous and Delectable
I went to Tao for my birthday dinner celebration with my family and had a WONDERFUL time. If you've never been to any Tao location you're in for quite a surprise when you walk in and see how large and gorgeous the restaurant is. It's decor is absolutely stunning. I requested a booth because loved the look of it with the lights overhead and was accommodated with no issue. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful and really made out meal even better because she was so kind and funny. All of the food was delectable; I especially enjoyed all of the dim sum options. My family is full of people with different tastes and there was something we each loved and enjoyed all of it. My parents had also arranged with the restaurant to bring me a giant birthday platter with a huge fortune cookie to celebrate and it was all delicious and fantastic. I don't want to spoil anything but make sure you read your fortune from your cookie in the end! I really loved Tao and I'll be back to this one and the one in NYC soon!

Be the first to ReplyGreat setting and excellent service but bring an extra wallet!
Went for a celebration with friends. We had dumplings and chicken gyoza followed by a wonderful orange chicken, beef with brocolli and wonderful noodles.
I can also recommend the chilli mango cocktail. We had a booth a couple of tiers up from main dining which was perfect for a bit of people watching.
Great food and a super place. It's a cool, $$$$ venue and booking is advisable.
Great food! Amazing restaurant!
This was my first time going to Tao and damn I loved it. First, the service was great. Our waiter was always checking on us and brought us the food really fast. Talking about the food, the duck is one of the best Iโve had. Also, the pad thai, the steak with mushrooms and the surf roll are amazing as well. I really recommend this place! I had a great time and Iโll come back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service however questionable clientele
This location is similar to the others in NYC and Vegas however made complete with that 'extra special' Hollywood crowd. Weekends are the most interesting as the bar in front absolutely gets inundated with the selfie driven crowd who can be quite rude thinking they own the space when they're merely another guest in the vast crowd. Try not to allow that clientele sway the setting as once you get in to the actual dining room and navigate past the bar scene, you can be treated well by the staff of servers and bussing team in offering a delicious meal. My favorite dishes include the Miso Sea Bass and Tuna on Crispy Rice - its always a home run. Easy valet parking out front at a cost where they don't validate.
