Nice ambience and food but service still lags, no improvement since our last visit!
It has been a year since our last visit here (but several visits made to it's other outlets throughout the year though). It was Sunday, around 11.40am when we arrived. The restaurant was not crowded only with a few occupied tables (but later on as moved past 12.15pm, the restaurant was quite crowded as it's lunch time) We were then the only ones at queue and we waited for quite a good while before being "noticed" by the manager. At first we thought they might have manpower issue but later proved other else. The staff didn't seem enthusiastic in welcoming customers, I knew some pretended "didn't see". That was also the same experience in our previous visit here. After being led into the restaurant to a table, we saw more staff inside and so apparently it was not the lack of manpower issue. After browsing through the menu, we ordered the breaded chicken, chicken in the basket, seafood aglio aglio, the banana split ice cream and the coffee. Due to the slow service, we also waited for quite a while before our foods were served. And the interval between the food served was also quite long. The portions of the food were huge. The chicken was nicely marinated and well deep fried with golden yellow colour. They were crispy outside and juicy inside, yummy! I liked the coleslaw that came along with it, very tasty while the french fries were well done too. The aglio aglio was good, fragrant, delicious and a little spicy (for my mum). And the ice cream, no doubt, very nice and the chocolate and coffee flavour were super flavourful and rich in taste! Although service was slow, the staff were overall friendly and efficient in taking orders, responding to our requests to bring us tartar and chilli sauces for our fries. But again when making payment at the counter, there was no one manning it and had to wait again for quite a while, before a staff spotted us and came over and by this time, there was already a queue outside the restaurant. (though inside the restaurant, there were still many empty tables) Price wise, would say good value for money, given the portion and food quality and if not the slow services, we would have given it a 4-star! Not sure if they will buck up their services and since our last visit here (with review), nothing seemed to change.
Be the first to ReplyOverall satisfactory dining experience but service needs to buck up!
It was 11.10am on a Sunday and we came here for our brunch. This is one of the few Swensens outlets we frequent. The restaurant opens for business at 11.30am but a snake queue was already formed up when we arrived. It was so long that it formed a u-shape queue, extending to the corridor of the restaurant next door. At 11.30am, the restaurant staff did not start bringing in the diners as they were still prepping. It seemed there was manpower shortage with the 2 managers or supervisors moving around (more staff were seemed only about an hour later). Then after 10mins, diners started going in with the staff bringing them to the table. However, they did not expedite this process but instead, waited there for the diners to place their order! The queue was long but inside the restaurant, there were still many empty seats. By right, they should try to bring in as many diners as possible! We waited for about 20mins before being led in, and true enough service was slow. Other than this, the overall dinning experience was satisfactory. We were seated at the sofa by the windows and immediately we placed our orders since we had already decided what to order while browsing through the menu. As usual, we ordered the breaded chicken, Impossible garlic burger with fries, the banana split ice cream and the mochaccino. Due to the large crowd and shortage of staff, service was slow, we waited for quite a while before our foods were served. And the interval between the food served was also quite long. The portions of the food were huge though. The breaded chicken was nicely marinated and cooked, though a little darker than golden yellow colour. But it was crispy outside and juicy inside, yummy! I liked the salad that came along with it, very tasty while the french fries were well done too. As for the hamburger, it was good too, fragrant and delicious. And ice cream, no doubt, very nice and the chocolate was super flavourful and rich in taste! Although service was slow, the staff were overall friendly and efficient in taking orders, responding to our requests to refill the iced water and for mayonnaise sauce for our fries. Price wise, would say good value for money, given the portion and food quality and if not the slow services, we would have given it 4-star! When we finished our meal after a good 80mins, the queue outside the restaurant was still as long as it was the lunch time period! I hope they will buck up their services.

Staff handling well despite extreme busy hours. Tried the seafood pasta as well - better than expected.

Brought my family there to celebrate my wife's birthday, which is a tradition for us. We have always enjoyed the food, especially the complimentary ice cream on your birthday. This time round, I decided to try the Impossible Burger option. Like the name suggest, the burger is really impossible. As in it is impossible to find another burger smaller or more expensive. I would not recommend this menu item at all. I paid almost $18 for the burger (yes I understand that the price depends on the items you ask for). As you can see from the pictures, I have compared the burger to the fork that was provided. To elaborate how expensive it is, I requested for rendang sauce which costs $1. However, when the burger came, I could not find the sauce anywhere. When I asked the serving staff, she couldn't find it too and had to bring it back to the kitchen to ask. She came out later, explaining that the sauce is already on the bun. On closer inspection, I realised that there really was sauce provided, about the size of maybe a 20cent coin. This review is really about the Impossible Burger. It tastes nice but definitely not worth the price.

Went here with my family we all had milkshakes with ice cream very nicely presented and have a very large variety of ice cream and different meals well worth a look

I have been here 3 times and failed to get served at any point. Stand at the counter, sit at a table, wave at the staff, ask for ice cream, all treated with confused looks. I assume they do actually sell ice cream here, they have plenty of it at the counter, but they completely fail on service.

The restaurant looked full when we reached there near 1pm on a weekend. To our surprised, we were brought into the inner section of the restaurant. The place is so big. The black pepper seafood pasta was a little too spicy for me, but was cooked al dente. The salted gula melaka ice cream was good. All the service staff who served us were friendly.

Sister-in-law gave hubby a treat at Swensens at Nex. We ordered the Around the World in 80 days Jun's promotion - Volcano Ayam. Even with us being able to take spicy food, we found this a little spicy. But yummy! We also had the free sundae and hubby had his free Firehouse ice cream, compliments from Swensens. Just show your identification and if you are there on your actual day, you will get a Firehouse on the house.

Went to Swensens with my family today and I ordered the Mega Burger. This is the worst burger I've tasted in my life and I couldn't even finish half of the patty. Imagine the type of frozen burger patty that you get from the supermarket but 3 times the size and selling at $16. The taste of food preservatives in the patty was so overwhelming that I cannot even begin to describe the taste without using inappropriate words. So please stay away from this product if you are ever in swensens. I really miss those days when they had the San Francisco Giant burger where they use real patties and the standard now is a far cry when I was working in swensens many years ago as a waiter. What a disappointment
