Fantastic omakase experience! I've come multiple times
Fantastic omakase experience! I've come multiple times for the lunch special which is a fantastic deal. Keep in mind that you will need to make a reservation for this, I've seen people turned away. The service here is great from start to finish. It's a very small operation, usually, during lunch, I've never seen too many people here. The sushi here isn't necessarily the most exotic, but the quality is definitely there. I love the inclusion of handrolls too which are so nice with the fresh nori. Definitely worth a visit!

For its price of 68 dollars for the the premium set, this was an absolute steal. Great fish that was perfectly executed. The staff was extremely pleasant and polite but I would've preferred it if they were a touch more attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes. I will also have to say the kalbi short rib was nothing too spectacular. Would def come back again for a reasonably price omakase.

A hidden gem in UWS! Definitely a place worth stopping by and experiencing! The staff was amazing and knowledgeable of each piece served! Did the premium experience and enjoyed every piece! They serve sake and beer. Tipping isnt allowed at this establishment.

Service: 5/5 - Hostess and waiter were definitely accommodating, explaining each course, and consciously maneuvering without bumping into people despite the smaller space. Food: 5/5 - The quality is definitely there given the low price. You'll see the check prepare each course e.g. tuna, scallop, beef, and finishing off with a hand roll. Can compare to some of the other courses are pricier omakase spots. Price: 6/5 - I don't think there's another omakase restaurant that beats this in terms of price ($68 for the PREMIUM). If you're looking to have your first omakase without busting a hole in your wallet, this is definitely the place. Then you'll end up like me being financially irresponsible b/c I love food/going out on dinners too much. Ambiance: 4.5/5 - Bit smaller if a place, but staff really try to make it work. Think of it more as a casual spot that you can definitely talk with other dinner guests, the 2 chefs, etc.

Be the first to ReplyI went to Sushi W a couple of months ago for their lunch
I went to Sushi W a couple of months ago for their lunch omakase special ($38 for 10 pcs and 2 handrolls). The sushi was good! All the pieces felt fresh, and there were some that were definitely our favorites. The rice they use is interesting, as it seems they've combined it with soy sauce. Although the rice was flavorful, my friend said he wished it had been less overpowering so that he could taste the fish better. Although I didn't think the rice flavoring was that strong, it did definitely mask some of the freshness from the fish itself. The server came by to ask us if we wanted drinks and later again if we wanted to order anything else, but didn't check up on us too much. The ambiance was alright, but it definitely felt like a rushed service considering we were done within 45 minutes, with 15 minutes left to pay for the bill. Regardless of that, though, for $38 and no additional tip, this was definitely such a steal. For an affordable, decent omakase, you can't beat Sushi W at that price.

I'm a huge sushi fan and this place has hands down the BEST sushi I've ever had in my life. The chefs put it together right in front of you. Every piece is unique and perfectly fresh. It's an hour long tasting menu essentially. I've never had an experience like it and I can't wait to go back!

Finally a sushi Omikase in the league of Seki, Gari, Nakazawa and Masa...but 1/3 the price. If you know and love sushi Omikase, this is the real deal. I am hesitant to write such a review because too many people will find out about it and reservations will become difficult. But I have to tell the truth!!!

Came here for lunch one weekend with my family, we were drawn in by the price and absolutely blown away by the freshness of the fish and the ambiance. For less than $100 P/P, it's definitely an affordable omakase without sacrificing the quality of the fish that's offered at hand. The restaurant operates in a "sugarfish" assembly line, which is why dining here usually takes an hour before the next party is seated. Quick, efficient business model + fresh seafood = happy customers.

Absolutely delicious and such a cool restaurant experience! Each piece was fresh and different from the last but all prepared to perfection.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Great service. Nice people. Reasonably priced. New neighborhood favorite.
Be the first to ReplySO good! Fresh and simply delicious.
You can taste the natural sweetness from each piece of the seafood. The price is unbeatable. We always get Premium Omakase, with $63 price and no tipping policy, this place is high quality sushi lover's dream come true.
Be the first to ReplyThis is perhaps the best value of any food in New York City.
Incredible omakase experience for less than $70? UNHEARD OF. The counter seats 12 and it's a lovely intimate environment: just you, the chefs and a few servers. Every course was delicious (we got the premium menu) and we most enjoyed the scallop, sea bream, and hand rolls that they make in your hand!! No frills, just incredible food. You must check this out if you're in the city!!!

My friend took me here and I was quite impressed with the quality of sushi! ย It's quick experience but the actual quality of food was much better than some of the most expensive sushi restaurants. ย Very happy to discover the place and the service. ย Be able to experience good sushi experience with no need to feel guilt about spending too much money.
Be the first to ReplyMy first omakase experience ever, and I'm going to have to
My first omakase experience ever, and I'm going to have to say it's going to be very hard to top this one. The manager/owner was so kind and attentive, he made us feel very welcomed. All of the courses were thoughtfully planned out and melted in your mouth. We were walked through the entire experience, and each dish was memorable and flavorful. I usually don't like squid because of its chewy texture at most sushi places but the way it was prepared here changed my opinion. The best dish in my opinion was the unagi, it was mind-blowingly buttery and a savory umami. The sablefish and salmon were just as good and come in at 2nd and 3rd place, but they were delectable ย I'll definitely be coming back here again, and I'd reccommend this establishment to all of my friends or for any first time omakase-goers that don't want to break their wallet but want a nice dining experience!!
Be the first to ReplyA fairly new, affordable omakase spot on the UWS! Heard
A fairly new, affordable omakase spot on the UWS! Heard about this from a few friends and also saw it on Instagram, so my friend and I decided to visit when he came to visit. We made reservations pretty last minute and were able to get a spot though think we got the last one and there weren't availabilities on other days. The nigiri was fine, don't think any stood out in particular but also have no complaints at all! I would say that the amount of wasabi put in was quite inconsistent - some had a lot and some I felt like had none at all. Instead of giving us a prepared wet towel to clean our fingers between each nigiri, we only got one of the disposable, prepackaged wipe at the beginning that we had to use throughout which I didn't like. One thing was that they gave us feedback forms 2/3 of the way through the meal which I thought was weird. We were still eating but we also felt obligated to write them some feedback. Service was okay, obviously not the level of higher end places, but you can tell they tried. My friend's and my jacket both got knocked on the ground even though we were both leaning back on it. A little rushed, but not too bad. The price is inclusive of tip which is great - think it's super affordable and definitely is a value omakase place.
Be the first to ReplyI've been to a lot of speed omakase spots in Manhattan
I've been to a lot of speed omakase spots in Manhattan (Sushi Lab, Sushi by Bou, Sushi on Jones) and also some of the best sushi places in New York (Sushi Yasuda, Sushi Nazakawa, Sushi Noz) and feel confident in saying that Sushi W hits the best balance between quality and value. The premium omakase is ridiculously cheap -- even though we found the portions a little small, and the hour-long service limited the ability to add onto the meal, we thought the price for a double booking was still more than reasonable for the delicious, fresh sushi that you get. The place doesn't have a liquor license yet, but that's really driven business to the wine store next door, whose staff is more than happy to recommend the perfect pairing. Although it is a trek from Brooklyn, we'll be back as soon as we can snag two back-to-back time slots.

The best sushi ever! Price, taste, atmosphere and customer service was just so amazing. I was so impressed! I visited the restaurant with 3 friends and they loved it too!! Saw this place on instagram and knew I had to go! Good quality and price, still kind of shocked at how affordable it was. We got the premium omakase for $63 which includes 15 nigiri pieces & 2 handrolls. Love the no-tipping policy
Be the first to ReplyI selfishly don't want to tell people about this hidden gem
I selfishly don't want to tell people about this hidden gem and a best-kept secret. They definitely have their own thing going with the one hour seating, but it's so well orchestrated you don't feel rushed. We sat in their welcome area for a bit enjoying our BYOB (they COULD stand to offer some snacks there). But when we got seated, OMG, the sushi was absolutely amazing. Soft. Buttery. Warm. I don't even remember everything I ate, but I know I tried things I've never had before and it was all absolutely amazing. Not a single dish I didn't eat. And the rice...something about the warmth and sweetness to the rice...absolute brilliance. And I thought I might be hungry after the basic, but after giving it a minute, realized I was pleasantly and comfortably full and satisfied. Their humility and service is delightful and charming. I want to go back as a neighborhood resident regularly but I fear as they grow their following, their really approachable prices will grow likewise. If so, they deserve to. This team is amazing and is delivering a real experience.

Probably the most Gen Z/Millennial thing to say, but I found Sushi W via TikTok and was intrigued by the pricing and concept having tried the Sugarfishes and KazuNoris of the world, so we decided to make a reservation. It's definitely a subway trip up in the city, however it's conveniently located nearby a wine shop given the restaurant is BYOB at the moment. We both ordered the Premium Omakase Dinner-15 nigiri pieces & 2 handrolls (menu changes based on best fish available for the day). We arrived early and were able to see how the previous group was formatted and served given that Sushi W operates on an hour group reservation-5PM, 6PM, 7PM, etc. We asked the hostess if we could be seated in the middle, and she notified us that they'd be willing to work with us on the request. Before being seated, I went to the bathroom to freshen up, however I think having one bathroom isn't sustainable and the tight walkway past the seats could be a safety hazard. Upon being seated, we were placed in the middle, however a host notified us that we would have to move seats down to the edge of the table. We complied, however an older couple ended up arriving later and sitting there, but we were confused as to the logistics of the situation given that everyone comes in and out at the same time for the hour reservation and you can't ask to be placed in specific seats? We requested hot water, however heard the host ask the hostess if they even have this, but reading their beverage section of the menu, assuming they still serve hot tea, this would mean they have hot water? We notified the host and sushi chef that we didn't want wasabi and that I did not want meat. The host proceeded to write on a Post-it note, "No Meat" and placed it on the inside part of the table, however the sushi chef ended up serving me Kalbi. Given that they opened a year ago, I would hope they have the kinks worked out when running a restaurant, however it gave off, "we just hired a chef to come to your house and make food" vibes which is a good and bad thing. Areas of improvement would include providing more than one bathroom for customers, implementing a more robust system for modifications instead of writing on Post-it notes, and open communication and flexibility when it comes to seating accommodations. It turns out that the older couple seated next to us were recurring customers, which I understand, however because Omakase is more mainstream and accessible in the city, Sushi W is a good first start to trying the formal dining experience and allowing the sushi chef to decide on the menu, but not worth coming back in a weekly cadence.

Really enjoyed this place - was a fantastic introduction to omakase. I had the lunch omakase and it was only 30$, so this is probably the cheapest, still quality option out there. It totally exceeded my expectations given the cost and is honestly better than more of its expensive counterparts. They also used some very interesting cuts of fish that I haven't had before, and they were so good (I ended up ordering extra sablefish a la carte). My only critique would be showmanship + presentation could use an improvement, otherwise really really phenomenal for 30$.
Be the first to Replysushi w was a FANTASTIC experience.
it is a great price for an AMAZING meal and time. the staff was so, so nice and really wanted us to have a wonderful meal. plus BYO - and what is better than that. highly recommend :)
Be the first to ReplyMe and my friend had an amazing expenrice.
The chief was very nice in explaining everything since it was our first time at an omakase restaurant. The hostess was very informative and friendly and answered all our questions. The atmosphere of the restaurant over all was very calming and the food was amazing for the price of $48 compared to other omakase restaurants in the Manhattan area. We'll definitely come again.
