Sushi Nakazawa Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Some of the best sushi I have ever had.
We ordered a suggested flight with recommended sake. A completely satisfying (and filling) meal with my son. Highly recommended.
Amazing food and chefs but questionable service.
Hubby and I celebrated this year's Valentine's Day at Nakazawa. We booked the chef's counter and got the super omakase and makgeolli. The super omakase was superb and it literally made me miss Japan so much! I can say the quality of the fish, meat, and all the other ingredients were top notch. The vibe of the restaurant was minimalist and elegant. The service was okay for a Michelin Star restaurant. Some of the servers were a little loud and I'm just not used to that being in a Michelin restaurant. They were also not very attentive. I dropped my napkin and my husband had to ask for a replacement after about 15-20 minutes of waiting. I'm not saying it was an inconvenience to ask but you kind of expect that kind of service for a pricey restaurant. Other than that, they were helpful in asking if we need help with the extensive drink menu. It was also worth mentioning how weird the process was to help me on my seat. We booked the chef's counter and the server wanted me to stand on the counter's foot rest so she can push the chair on me. I almost lost balance while standing on the foot rest. That kind of threw me off and had a sour start to our experience. I can't say I'll be back but it was definitely worth trying! The food was superb!
Nakazawa remains one of my favorite restaurants in the DMV
Nakazawa remains one of my favorite restaurants in the DMV and my favorite sushi counter! Each meal and experience is always so special and unique!
I can't imagine sushi getting better than this, not even in
I can't imagine sushi getting better than this, not even in Japan. I was too busy enjoying the food and experience to take pics. Very expensive but worth it to experience at least once. This place is so great that a couple of chefs that worked under the main one were able to start their own. It was about 17-18 nigiri sushi when I went and each one was either a 9-10/10. The uni was insane wow, I think about it everyday. The tuna was also my favorite. The ratio of fish to rice was perfect. He used blow torch for a couple pieces and it added so much flavor. I did omakase and well worth it. The sushi chef made the sushi right in front of me and handed it to me while one of the hosts was next to me explaining what it was and where it came from and answering any questions I had. Staff was very friendly. Great dining environment.
I went here last night with my Brother-in-Law and
I went here last night with my Brother-in-Law and Father-in-Law and did the Omakase experience for $180. I didn't take any pictures out of respect for the experience so I hope this written review will suffice. Hands down best sushi I have ever had in my life. You get 20 pieces with the deal we ordered and the chef prepares the sushi right in front of you. Each experience is different and tailored toward what the chef wants to serve you. You eat the sushi one at a time. We decided to eat with our hand vs chopsticks and then they give you a little towel to wipe your fingers after each sushi piece. The ambiance is very high class feeling and perfect for the experience. We ordered sake and Japanese whiskey as well. I left feeling not completely full but not completely empty. Hands down best sushi though I've had. Definitely try this place out.
This was such an amazing experience! The hotel has valet
This was such an amazing experience! The hotel has valet parking, and they escorted us to the restaurant. Everyone working in the restaurant was amazing and attentive to every detail. They were engaging and offered their suggestions based on what we said we liked before. Every single bite is a treat and so carefully made. The order in which each piece is given is perfect. I couldn't believe 2 hours of eating had past.
If you like sushi, definitely give it a try.
It might be a bit pricey, but if you enjoy izakaya, this place is great. Uni was SO delicious. This place is quiet--perfect for a peaceful meal with your partner. (We spent around $600 between the two of us. Just for your reference)
Yowza.
What an experience. This omakase will blow your mind. We splurged for the $300 a person course - probably the most I'll ever spend for dinner. But I get it: premium, fresh, succulent nigiri, generous caviar, melt-in-your-mouth uni - it adds up. Shout out to the entire team for great service all around, and I loved the intimate space and bar - it was busy and lively but not too loud or crowded. My sushi-loving spouse was very pleased to have celebrated his birthday here. Would love to come back but might need another special occasion to justify the very high cost. As I'm sure others have noted, remember that the entrance is not accessible inside the Waldorf Astoria. It's in the back of the building with its own entrance, and you can't even cut through the hotel to use the closest exit. Get dropped off on 12th St between Pennsylvania and Constitution.
I had a very enjoyable experience here.
I want to mention that my fiancée and I were supposed to dine here on NYE at a table, but I got sick and couldn't make it. I contacted the customer service team and they contacted me back right away. The lady let me know that I'd still be charged $300, but that the credit would apply on my new reservation. She was very understanding and said if I was going to spend the money she would want me to be able to taste the food. I also got her opinion on table versus sushi counter. She told me since it was my first time, she highly recommended the sushi counter. We went two weeks later and I was in much better shape. It was extremely cold that night, saved my appetite for this meal and was looking forward to the experience. The restaurant is located on the right side of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. We entered through the first set of glass doors, then saw a hostess motion to us close the doors behind us so we could avoid the cold draft from entering the restaurant. We checked our coats and were seated at the sushi counter. We arrived a little late, but I'm glad we didn't keep the other guests waiting from being served. The space was clean, modern, cozy and chic. Instead of writing about every single course, I will just summarize. We had a very good and memorable experience here. We opted for the classic omakase ($180pp). Next time, we would consider ordering the super omakase ($300pp - includes 15 of the best pieces from the classic omakase plus A5 Wagyu, caviar, white truffle, black truffle, the whole 9). We were served 20 pieces of nigiri sushi and one piece of tomago. We were also gifted a genmaicha and milk tofu crème brûlée for our anniversary celebration. My fiancée also had a mocktail. Our chef was very nice and it was definitely worth the extra money to witness the artistry firsthand. This is a list of what was served in order. Our favorite bites are starred. 1. Chum (Hokkaido white salmon) Salmon 2. Smoked Ocean trout 3. King salmon New Zealand Japanese mustard 4. Japanese sea scallop yuzu chili sea salt* 5. Japanese squid 6. Maryland crab 7. Japanese butter fish 8. Golden eye snapper 9. Japanese sardine* 10. Yellowtail* 11. Japanese tiger shrimp 12. Black skipjack* 13. Akami blue fin tuna 14. Soy marinated akami 15. Medium fatty tuna, shu toro 16. Fatty tuna, otoro* 17. Uni 18. Ikura Salmon roe 19. Fatty tuna hand roll - Sushi fatty tuna roll with the best seaweed from Japan* 20. Salt water Eel 21. Tomago egg cake
Outstanding omakase, amazing flavors, perfect service.
Wonderful place to celebrate a birthday!
Great food but poor service
Food: Sushi was excellent. I would go again for sushi as there were many different exotic varieties of fish and was all made to perfection. It was explained very very well too. Service: was sub par for Michelin one. The waiter was good in describing each dish as it was brought to the table. However they did not try to go above and beyond for the price we were payingβ¦..a stink bug landed on one of the mixing plate! When we brought it up to the server, he took the plate away, did not say anything and he was then gone for a long time..I would have expected him to 1. Bring a replacement plate 2. Apologize. None of that happened. We had to ask another server for a replacment plate while other waiters brought the sushi dishes. This was very disappointing. Also when we were leaving, there was no good bye or thank you for visiting. Would have loved to go again for the excellent food but service sucks!
Best sushi restaurant in the DMV.
Sushi Nakazawa is the best Japanese Sushi restaurant in the DMV. The staff is attentive, especially with wine pairings and is descriptive about each of the nigiri pieces you have in a meal. Everyone in the DC area should try to be here at least once in their lifetime if they like sushi!
Amazing and we will be back
One of the best Omakase we have ever had. Each bite was amazing and perfectly times. When there was rice the temperature was perfect. We made reservations at the bar as there is the only place you can order the chefβs menu with all the add ons included and some special treats. First I have to say from start the finish the staff was incredible, kind and so professional. The sommelier stopped by and I had a cocktail to start while my husband with (PBC) reviewed the alcohol free wine list with the som. This was the first som who was so well educated on the alcohol free wines. Anyways - back to the meal- every bite was amazing - and learned so much from the chef- it eas relaxing and enjoyable. We will be back!
Fantastic Omakase-- make sure to ask for the sushi counter!
Definitely ask for the counter! What is better than getting your food (and descriptions) straight from the chef after watching him prepare it? Such good fun and, of course, delicious food! Only negative: they need to give better directions to find the entrance. No good to start your special meal stressed out! But definitely worth it-- just add a few minutes to find your way! Brandon was great, and our sushi chef was perfect: gracious and talented and fun all at once. A budget-buster but worth the splurge!
Impeccable food absolutely wrecked by sloppy service execution
My wife and I have celebrated our Anniversary at Sushi Nakazawa every year for 4 years. I also frequent the place whenever good friends are in to town and I want to take them somewhere special. I have always given the Chefs, the wait staff, and the servers great praise. I want to be clear that while this is a pretty bad review, the food here has always been and continues to be amazing. I expect more as far as service goes though. We won't be headed here for our anniversary next year and that makes us pretty sad. 1. We have always been treated warmly upon entering the restaurant, someone asks to take our coat, they lead us to our seats, and often refer to my previous visits there. Its always well orchestrated and its a great introduction to the place. This time the stewardess was dismissive and hadn't looked into our reservation at all. (She didn't know we were there for our anniversary, didn't know we had been there before, etc). If I'm going to fill out a form to get a reservation you might want to read it before I get there. Worst of all she was in such a hurry to seat my wife that she didn't wait for her to put her feet on the foot rest under the sushi bar and crushed her foot. By far our interaction with the stewardess colors this review the most. It was a horrible introduction, we didn't feel welcome, and it was sloppy. I don't expect any of that when I spend near a thousand dollars on a dinner. 2. The service is usually impeccable. The waiters pay attention to your handedness, they remind you of the drinks and accompaniments you've had in the past. They apologize ahead of time if there isn't something in stock they know you love. They offer up suggestions based on your past orders The waiter was pretty good this time. They noticed our interest in Krug and offered up an interesting story about the family who makes it. However, they spilled champagne on my wife. They also weren't very helpful with the drink menu and just kinda kept pushing us toward their drink parings. Over all the waiter was a 3/5 because of the dink spill and trying to push pairings we weren't interested in.
Excellent Omakase
Best sushi/sashimi I've ever had. Small, very expensive. Omakase style, nice selection of sake. Our meal was a $1000 for two of us, BUT we had add-ons, Toro caviar, Uni flights, nice alcohol. I little tough to find, use your GPS. Make reservations. Waitress did a great job of describing every dish.
Amazing food but ok experience
Disappointed. The food was very good but for a birthday celebration it was rushed, business like and not special. Maybe the bar feels more special but the dining table experience is not worthwhile.
Eating at Sushi Nakazwa felt like working at an auto plant assembly line
Even though we appreciated each sashimi course with its corresponding wine pairing, eating at Sushi Nakazawa felt like working at an auto plant assembly line. Each course was immediately served after the next. Enjoying Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe frequently, I am wondering if there are different standards for being awarded with a Michelin star in Europe and the US. Compared with restaurants Nagaya in DΓΌsseldorf/Germany or Yamazoto in Amsterdam/Netherlands, which I visited recently, this restaurant clearly doesnβt deserve any mention in the guide Michelin, not to mention Michelin star, at all.
A mystical experience
This is a bucket list sort of restaurant. The fish is of impeccable quality, itβs prepared perfectly, and itβs a chance to eat a quality of ingredient that just isnβt available elsewhere. I recommend the drink pairing. It is not cheap - for 2 of us with wine pairing + a few of the add-ons + tip it was $1,100. I would not go often, but it is certainly a mystical level experience.
Incredible Sushi Experience
Birthday gift from my son...the best meal of my life. Our sushi was prepared by the executive chef, quality of the fish was incredible, execution was outstanding. The flavor and quality is difficult to describe without going through each of the 20+ courses. We had to eat slow as to not miss the layers flavor. The staff is equally outstanding, explaining the source of each seafood, how it is prepared and how best to enjoy it. Impossible to say which course was my favorite as each had its unique flavor. Un-heard-of list of sake. Incredible experience and recommended for any that enjoy authentic sushi.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been βmatchedβ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Payouts
Anyone know how increase payout transfer to bank as I can only send $50 a day and they charge $5 for every transaction. There must be a way. Iβve contacted support two days ago and not a reply.
