Fabulous
A lovely family lunch in the familiar theatrical surroundings of St John's Tavern was made really relaxing by the warmth and charm of the welcome. The waiting staff spontaneously offered sensible alterations to the menu and rhythm of the meal to meet the children's needs and made sure everyone felt welcome. The food was great, particularly the starters which were truly delicious.
Be the first to ReplyA terrible shame…
I’ve been coming here regularly for over 20yrs. The food and service has never let me down - I always recommended it. But something has changed… the service was poor and so slow. The menu small and though the food was okay, but the portions have become tiny and so expensive for what was served. A tiny piece of fish hidden under a mountains of pea shoots. And chips for my fish and chips were not included? Terrible to say but I won’t be going back.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing sunday roast
We came here for a Sunday roast. The food was very tasty, but we were a bit disappointed by the quantities considering the fairly high prices. I had the vegetarian option which was £16 for a couple of small slices of Celeriac, some potatoes, apple sauce, and gravy. In order to have a meal which didn't leave you feeling hungry afterwards, you'd have had to spend quite a bit more money on sides. Also charging 50p for lime slices is a bit of a joke...

Be the first to ReplyWhat has happened to the great St Johns?
We have been going to St Johns for 15 years and always loved the food and the atmosphere. I am not sure if the management has changed because the last 2 meals have not been good. Myself, my husband and a friend had the Sunday lamb roast yesterday and it looked undercooked. We have all been up with stomach cramps and nausea. It is a shame as it was such a great place but we will not go again.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent birthday meal, questionable wine pricing
Went with family for Sunday lunch. As ever, the food was excellent, wine was also great. Really good service as well. Only 4 stars due to the recommended wine - price not shown clearly on the menu, bottle price not shown at all and not mentioned when ordering- at £50 per bottle way more expensive than any other wines, and tbh felt a bit let down by this.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Sunday lunch
As we were staying in London for the weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday, we wanted a wholesome proper Sunday lunch - and boy did we find it - the Salt cod scotch egg was an experience in itself - amazing - followed by the tastiest French Onion soup, then we had the sharing Should of Lamb- we have never eaten a more stunning Sunday lunch as this, words do not do it justice, it’s was just fantastic. Worth every single penny, we cannot wait to come back. The pub was fantastic as were the lovely staff- very friendly.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant
Sunday lunch perfect. Beef cooked beautifully. Service excellent. We were late arriving from Dorset but the staff did everything they could to ensure we kept our booking. Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat local choice
Went for Sunday lunch with family. We had a brilliant rump of roast and a great braised lamb to share. Was a bit disappointed with the scotch egg. Nice and cosy setting and good staff. Free chilled water upon arrival was a great touch. Friendly professional waiters and a good selection of drinks.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Local tavern
Came in for drinks with three friends. Choice of tables and was well looked after by the very friendly staff. Good choice of Wines. Will definitely come back to sample the food as from observing what others were eating, it looked superb.
Be the first to Replya fabulous restaurant in a great pub, a celebration of all that´s good
Another excellent meal at St John´s last night in which yet again the plates left our table completely empty, bar the spine of the incredibly tasty plump seabass, clearly! We left planning our next visit, and raving about the food, service vibe, everything. Thanks a million to all involved, especially those in the kitchen, your skills there and the quality ingredients used never fail to better both my day and my mood. love Catherine
