After having heard many good things about this restaurant and also being previous regulars at the Hakkasan restaurants our expectations were high and we expected to be in for a treat. Unfortunately the tone was set rather quickly with a nonchalant service attitude that actually seemed more annoyed about our visit than anything else. However being a chef myself I know that does not always speak for the quality of the food so we went on to order Dim Sum, Starters, Soup and the signature Peking Duck which it states it takes 60 minutes to cook - we thought with all our starters it would not be a problem. But unfortunately when ordering the Peking Duck (which again is the signature dish) we were asked if we had ordered it when reserving the table, which we obviously had not since it was not mentioned anywhere that was required, and we were more then happy to wait for it to be prepared. But after a quick check in the kitchen we could order it as we had not pre-ordered. They instead offered us the half aromatic duck which we reluctantly had to accept. The food arrived literally less than 5 minutes after ordering, which does beg the question of how much of the food it pre-cooked and just heated. The food also arrived before any of the drinks that we had ordered and all the food, Dim Sum, Soups and appetizers came at the same time - i would have expected a more calm service. But let’s talk about the food. The peking soup was ok and similar to any peking soup you could find in any Chinese restaurant. The King Crab soup however was bland and with a stretch of imagination you could sense a bit of tomato?!??. All the dim sum (deluxe dim sum platter and Kung Po Chicken dumplings) which were accompanied by supermarket sauces were doughy, remarkably tasteless and extremely unpleasant they did look nice however. I am also still trying to wrap my head around how it is possible to cook dim sum in less than 5 minutes - but that is a debate for another day. We also had the tea smoked ribs and the bao bun which were both tasty but lukewarm at best. The ribs seemed like they has been waiting for sole poor sucker to order them all day and the bao buns looked and tasted store bought. We finished the first act, and were asked if we wanted to wait for a bit with the next dished, to which we answered yes. After that our dishes were cleared and the chopstick first dropped in the table and then, handles by the waiter, and seeing that they go in our mouth we asked for some new ones. To our surprise the waiter looked at us as if we were cavemen explaining that in China it is tradition to keep the same pair of chopsticks throughout the meal… I’m not sure if he mistook Monaco for China but I will leave that with him to figure out. Back to the food, 3 minutes after we has be asked if we wanted to wait for a but with the main dishes, all the main dishes arrived. The half aromatic duck looked like something you would expect to see at the back of a mediocre delicatessen 2 minutes before they close, it wa clearly deep fried and was clearly 2 different pieces. This was “prepared” by a waiter which if by being prepared is understood that the duck is shredded beyond any resemblance of a duck. The preparation did not hide the fact the the duck was dry and some pieces burnt served with bland pancakes, store quality sauce, scallions and stale cucumbers. We also order the beef and ginger main course which seemed pumped full of MSG and finally the salt and pepper shrimp special which was also uninteresting. At this point we decided that we had spent enough time in this establishment this evening so we asked for the check. Upon paying the waiter asked us for our opinion we we gave and remarkably we explained that the while peking duck could not be served because the chef did not want to prepare it so late, which is what we expected from the beginning… It surprises me that you have the audacity to operate a restaurant like, and I note the amount of times that the management team asked asked for reviewers to contact them and invite them back - may I suggest that management read the reviews improve the experience so that guest satisfaction improves. For us this was once and never again there are Chinese restaurants in Nice and Milan that are far better.
