This place is absolutely awesome.
First, I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were for Manhattan. The drinks, food, and ambiance were incredible, and I was pleasantly surprised at how inexpensive the meal was when the bill came. Starting with drinks, I got the Old Fashioned as part of one of the drinks + two course meals, and it was one of the best Old Fashioneds I've ever had. I've also been dreaming about the delicious Caesar salad since my trip to this restaurant. The burger and fries were so good too. The burger was gigantic and perfectly cooked. We finished our amazing meal with the churro dessert which was one of the best desserts I've had. Most importantly, our server was incredible! I wish I remembered his name because he was awesome. The restaurant was basically empty by the time we finished our meal, but we didn't feel rushed at all. He was super kind and attentive the whole night. Can't wait to come back.

Poor quality meat, bearnaise had nothing to do with bearnaise, and oddly enough room was extremely cold (kept my jacket on). Wouldn't recommend

This place has one of the best underrated burgers in the city. I came here for the adult happy hour deal and got a martini at the bar with a burger (medium rare) for $35 and was in my happy place. It was a cozy ambience and the bartender was friendly. I will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyOur server was nice but the place was dead empty.
The food took forever to come out. We requested something sweet with a candle to celebrate the birthday gals and they brought it out first before our meal (churros) which kind of killed the appetite. The main brunch course took a reeeeeeeeeally long time to come out. We ordered pretty much everything on the brunch menu except drinks. Veggie Benedict was very salty. So was the spinach. The burger was not good. The steak was ok but the hash was cold. The French toast was alright. Cute place but definitely not worth it. Probably would have gotten faster service and better tasting food at Mel's but doubt I'd ever come back to either after this. Spending good money on not good food is definitely not a good feeling. The only reason why this is 2 stars is because our server was a sweetheart. I also tried to make brunch reservations at one of the other locations and this was the only one giving me the brunch option. I don't like giving bad reviews but I'm peeved about nearly $250 ( for 5 ppl w no drinks ) on bad food and unnecessarily long wait.
Be the first to Replywe went to the &sons on the UES and it was great.
we used a code from an instagram page to get a free round of drinks which was so cool. they have so many options for dinner and it's a pre fixed menu. It was beautiful in there. definitely need a reservation as it's pretty small but it's worth it!

Let's start with the fact that the restaurant is very deceiving. I understand it's a steak, easy, and it's cute and hidden. But explain to me why I had to wait 15 minutes upfront for my table when there's only 10 tables and half of them were empty. The fact that they only had one steak on the menu, is beyond misleading, and very disappointing. The menu was nothing to gasp at. It seemed limited and boring at best. So much, that we didn't even stay and went to a real steakhouse a few blocks away. I'm willing to try their downtown location. But thank God the expectations have been lowered tremendously. Perhaps you should have a wait staff and host staff. That makes your customers feel welcome and engaged. Instead of cold.

Our group had a really good experience here -- great environment, great drinks and great food. A really fun night. PS -- I agree with the other positive reviews. The negative one from "Paul M" seemed like an outlier but then I saw that almost all of his restaurant reviews were 1 star so I ignored it and glad I did!

Food was great for the price, Love the Prix fixe option! Our server was very kind and professional, and was taking care of the whole room by themself, it was impressive. Music was a little loud, but probably to cover up the music from the restaurant we were inside of The carbonara mac was my fav part
Be the first to ReplyThe steak was amazing but all of the sides were ass.
The mashed potatoes barely had any flavor to it. Even the max and cheese tasted bland AF. Even the appetizer was bread with jam and bacon.... Wtf? dropped about $335 for 2 people, I wouldn't go back.

We came for the steak and never wanted to leave !! The service is top tier they make you feel at home and the atmosphere is warm and upbeat! The decor is stunning soooo much thought went into making this restaurant and the food is out of this world the steak melts in your mouth and the sides are just as good as the steak they all shine equally. Sooo good I licked my plates clean

This corresponds to their West Village location which cannot be found on Yelp but I am sure their Second Avenue location is similar.I typically will not leave a review without giving a venue the opportunity to fix it but made an exception here as fixing this place would require completely changing their concept and some things have to be said.We should have second guessed our choice when we walked into the only empty restaurant in NYC on a bustling Thursday night but we reluctantly stayed and certainly satisfied our curiosity as to why it was empty. The staff was very nice, the room is appealing, though there is no "speakeasy" to speak of and the dining room could use some sprucing up. Walking into the room was like walking into history and not in a positive, charming way; it was like walking into the same exact restaurant the space was (The Lion) ten years ago.The menu is awful, both food and cocktails. & Sons has not only come up with the stupidest name ever (try searching for it online) they have also successfully managed to come up with the stupidest dining concept I have ever seen. It is a "prix-fixe" steak dinner but the starters, sides and desserts are only portioned out in increments of two, so if you are a party of three or five or seven, etc.; you get shafted. Despite this, the server told us every person at the table must order an entree. That being said, you are not going to want to eat the food anyway as it is awful, not sure who thought any of it was a good idea. The starters are stale, room temperature bread service and mediocre, at best, pigs in a blanket-not sure how you even screw those up...This is then followed by your mandatory salad course, wedge was okay but had a very bizarre odor, not offensive, just noticeable. Caesar salad: inedible. Now here's the kicker...this is supposed to be a steakhouse, right? You do not have an option of how you want your steak prepared as it is only served one temperature and guess what, also terrible. We also ordered some extra supplements to the menu; the burger was one of the worst things I have ever put in my mouth accompanied by the worst French fries I have ever had! The "butter poached" lobster was terribly overcooked. No point in really reviewing the sides at this point. Desserts were also horrendous. But wait! There's more! Want to get the taste of that foul meal out of your mouth? They only serve TEN spirits, all from New York State. Margarita? NO! Your favorite vodka martini? NO! You cannot even get a blue cheese stuffed olive here! Espresso or Cappuccino? NO! Coffee only! Celebrating a special occasion and want to order a bottle of champagne? Guess what? NO! A crisp Manhattan serves with your favorite Kentucky bourbon? NOT HERE!New Yorkers don't like to be told what to do and & Sons has ticked the box on every single thing you are NOT supposed to do. You are setting up yourselves and more importantly, your staff up for failure.
Be the first to ReplyCool speakeasy restaurant.
They have great atmosphere, food and service my favorite were the dry rubbed wings.

Located on 9th Street in Greenwich Village, & Son is a not your typical steakhouse. This spot combines the atmospheres of a NYC steakhouse and a prohibition style speakeasy. This steakeasy specializes in French cooking style of sous vide. & Son is serving up the most superbly cooked steaks and burgers along craft specialty cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyYou guys, this is just fine.
They obviously just converted some back room they had to spare. Decor is decent, as is the music. It's not really super hidden/speakeasy-y. Food was fine at best. Steak had zero flavor (and like other reviewers mentioned, they didn't ask how we wanted it). Salads were diner caliber. Sides were fine. Dessert was meh. Martini was actually pretty decent. Fine overall experience, but not worth the price. I'd take tourists here, but I wouldn't go back on my own.

Solid "steakeasy" behind Mel's with quaint, cozy seating and great attentive service. The menu itself is very small - you get a choice of sous vide steak, burger, or chicken accompanied by a few sides like roasted potatoes or a carbonara. Everything is very solid although I would say that the roasted potatoes were absolutely delightful - perfectly seasoned and tender but not over cooked. The carbonara was also solid - it comes served with the egg yolk ready for you to mix in yourself. The steak was decent - the sous vide technique definitely helped to tenderize the cut more and it was decently flavorful but different from what you would get at a steakhouse. Both the burger and sliced chicken breast were standard but still satisfying. Worth stopping by for a small intimate dinner if you're in the area and looking for a bit of respite.

62 West 9th St From the moment I walked up to the entrance at & Son on West 9th, I felt like I was stepping back in time (in a good way). I loved the warmth, the vibe, the architecture, the little touches like the beverage lights above the bar, the photograph of the bridges at night, the bell (haha). P.S. thank you for putting bag hooks under the bar! The main dining space itself is absolutely stunning and I couldn't get over the lounge...all the books and warm lights...reminds me of the study in Clue...or a place where Hemingway would have hung out. The steak was perfectly cooked, the fries were just right, bernaise sauce was delicious, the lobster salad was delightful (perfectly prepared), the filthy martinis...well we already know how I feel about those;)I'll finish with this, I'm so impressed and excited to visit again! Can't wait to see the final product...in the meantime, go grab a seat at the bar and get yourself the Steak Frites and a Filthy martini...you'll thank me later!

3.5 but I will round up to a 4. Went last Friday night. It was hot AF in August and the AC unit was broken. This meant that eating hot foods was less pleasurable. Loved the concept of a speakeasy inside a burger bar. The vibe in this back room is very chic with leather booths but felt like they were over compensating. The price point on this small menu is excellent for the the meals like $33 for burger main, salad, side dish and dessert. My friend ordered the steak meal for $49. It seemed silly that they were bringing out 2 salads or 2 tiny desserts on this large roller cart. The service was very attentive. They had a limited wine and beer menu. The house red bottle they offered had no taste but was complimentary through a deal my friend got. Probably would not return.
