Simpsons Restaurant Birmingham Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing Anniversary meal - the staff are the friendliest we have ever experienced.
First time at this restaurant for Sunday lunch for our anniversary. Impeccable service from the minute we walked in. We were greeted by a lovely young lady at reception who wished us a happy anniversary and were surprised to find a card signed by all the staff on our table. We had the Sunday Lunch and it was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful, sublime tasting food. Each course was explained to us. Who knew cod roe was so delicious? Nothing was too much trouble and every single member of staff was friendly and polite. We enjoyed our coffee and delicious petit fours sitting outside in the sunshine. We look forward to returning. The only downside, which was not the fault of the restaurant in any way, were the family of three adults and two young boys who allowed their youngsters to race around outside, weaving in and out of peoples’ tables on the terrace whilst they were eating. Our coffees almost ended up on the floor when they banged into our table. All this whilst the adults were enjoying their food in comfort whilst their kids created havoc outside! If you are going to take your children to a beautiful restaurant like this, have some respect for the hard working staff and other diners and teach your children to behave properly!
A delight from start to finish!
A delight from start to finish! Stopped in here whilst in Brum for a lunch and was so glad we did. From the greeting on arrival through to the impeccable service throughout in a comfortable and very airy dining room the whole thing was excellent. We had the three course lunch with matching wines and every dish was superb. This is not your 'crazy / whacky' Michelin type food, but rather simple, classic cookery done VERY well. Full marks to the waiting staff who were all delightfully friendly and also to the Sommelier who was interesting, helpful and also very friendly. We shall return!
Birthday lunch
We love everything about this restaurant it is bright and fresh the service is first class the tasting menu was excellent and very tasty all in all a lovely birthday meal which was amazing going to try the cross there other restaurant in June
5* but a few niggles
Visited Simpsons on a Friday night and had the 8 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. There were 4 of us for dinner and it was absolutely amazing! The food and wines were delicious and the way the waitress and sommelier explained each wine and course was fantastic. The only downsides were that at one point, two of us had gone to the bathroom and had asked the waitress to wait before explaining that particular course. Luckily it was a cold course as we waited over 15 minutes for someone to come over to us. A little bit later, a couple of the waitresses and the sommelier were seen visibly, and loudly, disagreeing across the restaurant and although we couldn’t hear exactly what they were saying, we could see that there was some sort of altercation going on between them. We also had to wait around 30 mins trying to get someone’s attention to get the bill at the end of the meal.
Underwhelmed
We were underwhelmed by Simpsons , sadly . We had the long tasting menu and nothing on it tasted special . My scallops and lobster tasted as if they'd been frozen ( if they hadn't then the cookery was not great) . The dessert was completely overpowered by the passionfruit , I could barely taste the coconut . The waitress , while very pleasant failed to understand that I wanted a chase bramley apple and rhubarb with lemonade 3 times and just drank it with tonic . We would've had more drinks if they'd been quicker getting to us . Yes she took 2 drinks off the bill , but I'd have preferred to drink what I asked for . Nice decor and tableware
Oh dear!
Love this restaurant but they had a bad Easter Sunday. Food was over-seasoned and very salty. The paired wines were poor quality. The service was excellent. Very disappointed, for the first time.
Easter treat
Our first visit to Simpsons with our elderly aunt as an Easter treat. We were greeted by a young woman who was clearly quite flustered to see us. The lounge areas were full and she wanted to take us straight to our table. We wanted to have a drink first. Not the best first impression, maybe if a more experienced member of staff was available this could have been avoided. We were seated , quite happily , in the narrow conservatory. Lots of young pleasant waiting staff. Excellent meal , the quality of the food served was outstanding. We asked to see the sommelier to choose a dessert wine. The young female sommelier was very knowledgable and kindly gave us several wines to taste first. Overall a wonderful afternoon. However we did feel there was a lack of more experienced staff giving direction and leadership to the younger members of staff.
Nice but reminds me why I don’t like Michelin stars!
It’s a favourite spot for our friends but doesn’t warrant the price tag. We went for lunch. Food was all lovely (and looked stunning) but nothing was excellent. Zero ambience in the dining room which is a conservatory. Staff were friendly but didn’t lay our serviettes and weren’t particularly attentive. Sommelier didn’t pay much attention (it was quiet) and seemed to take exception to the fact I chose an American wine (which was lovely). He was excited about the white he recommended but gave no insight into the red (American) we chose.
Michelin star perfection
Fabulous Michelin star restaurant in Edgbaston Village. If you enjoy good food and wine you really must pay a visit. From entering the restaurant to leaving, the experience was amazing. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the food, explaining the dishes and answering any questions. The sommelier was excellent, describing the wines and pairing them perfectly with each course. My husband and I enjoyed the eight course tasting menu with wine pairing. It was hard to decide on a favourite dish as they were all amazing but the beetroot dish had the edge-and my husband isn’t usually a beetroot lover! The dishes were all beautifully presented with appropriate amounts of delicious food on each plate. An expensive dining experience but totally worth it. It was my birthday and the restaurant staff had gone to the trouble of all signing a card and there was a small box of chocolates at the end of the meal. These small personal extras were very much appreciated.
Great tasting menu !
Had the tasting menu. Had the 7 course tasting menu and each dish was amazing . Favourite was lobster ravioli - definitely wanted more !! Great atmosphere and service fantastic. Reasonably priced.
