Lovely, intimate dining experience
My husband and I just had the most delightful meal at Selma. The staff was so kind and patient, giving us recommendations and helping us have an authentic experience. They made wonderful schnapps recommendations (highly recommend the house brown butter one), the herrings options were delightful, and they even have delicious vegetarian options. The vibe was intimate and relaxed, and the service was impeccable. A definite must-try for your next trip to Copenhagen!!!!
Be the first to ReplyFlabbergastingly unique experience
Waitress did not go into details what is in the dish, to keep the mysterious aura of being Michelin reviewed I presumed. However the most exquisite highlights of the service must come from waiter that serves alcohol. He tried with first bottle to shyly read name of wine from its label and informed us that it came “somewhere in France”. But that much hard work had drained our poor man the next bottles just come with descriptions of “somewhere in X country”. At one point he served a small bottle of beer from somewhere in Germany, but he brought his own glass so that after pouring not full glass of beer he could have the rest to unwind right in front of us and behind my husband’s back whose beer he enjoyed with. Having foods and drinks that you pay for shared without consent is the lovely experience that only Selma Copenhagen can transpire. One must wonder whether Selma is paying their employees a liveable wage or they only hire the best deities to wait on us earthlings. Everything happened so cozily and casually with nice foods we were gaslit into believing this is a true Michelin experience until friends suggested yesterday it might not be and to share our experience with other people here.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing lunch post wedding
We came here for our friend's wedding. From the minute we entered, the waiter looked after our every need. The guy was super friendly and explained the dishes separately and how the drinks matched up. Each of the dishes was amazing and the variety of different alcohols allowed us to sample the best of Danish cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced
Was recommended this restaurant on a previous trip to Copenhagen. There was a nice atmosphere, apart from one waitress who was miserable 🙁. We opted for the taster menu and regret this on reflection, 5 of the courses were good, 3 not so. Wine was expensive compared to any other restaurant and they charge for water, which we did not experience elsewhere in Copenhagen. We enjoyed our experience, but unlikely to return.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific
My wife and I agree that this is maybe the best restaurant meal we've had! We did the tasting menu (note you have to order this when you book) and it was terrific. Very varied, beautifully presented and tasty. The service was great and well paced. Sometimes I leave tasting menus thinking the amount of food overall was insufficient. Not here. No complaints at all, just two happy diners.
Be the first to ReplyVery poor. Service atrocious. Foood very mediocre
Very poor service. Food unfortunately under impressed. Sold as a top restaurant but very poor. We will havecto leave hungry
Be the first to ReplyIf accessibility is of any concern, do not go here!
We had made a reservation for 5 about 3 weeks out, when arriving only table available was in the basement. One of our guests could not navigate the extremely steep stairs, and when asked if they could accommodate a table upstairs instead the answer was simply no. The manager even suggested that one is warned about this one making the reservation. This not true. After some back and forth the suggestion was to walk through a deliverable entrance instead. The food in interesting and different but quite pricy. If accessibility is of any concern, do not go here!
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming and Very overpriced
Very underwhelming and very overpriced. Should have probably read more reviews. Good presentation but flavors were underwhelming. Not worth the high price tag. Portions were small as well, one of the bread was very hard.
Be the first to ReplyEasy going great dining
Booked a table for two to try the tasting menu early on the Saturday evening. Arrived a shade early but was still nicely greeted and took a drink at the tables outside as the restaurant was still setting up the dining. Overall the food was really really good and definitely a couple of options I would not order so it was outside of my comfort zone...even managing to eat the tomato dish despite despising fresh tomato but when in Rome and all that. When we were given the menu we had it explained that one item was not available as described and an ingredient was being substituted...fine, no problem, it turned out to be very nice. We both agreed the favourites were the octopus, Danish cheese and tongue dishes although there were no bad, or even average ones by any stretch (even the tomatoes!) Throughout it felt like we were well looked after and definitely enjoyed the experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery good, very Danish.
Very good, very Danish. We had the herring, but will try the tasting menu next time. Hospital and friendly staff. Will be back 😎🇩🇰
Be the first to ReplyA great smørrebrød experience
We visited Copenhagen for three days and were given a gift voucher to dine here. We chose a late lunch and it was delicious. Traditional smørrebrød, prepared with the freshest ingredients. Plenty of choice and a great array of flavours. We had 5 dishes to share - the blackcurrant herring, Kale, tartare of beef, 3 kinds of herring and the cured salmon. Service was perfect, and the atmosphere a relaxing urban chic. Highly recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and very attentive staff. Easy booking. Nice atmosphere. Absolutely worth a visit.
Great restaurant with very attentive staff. The food is excellent and I can recommend ordering the menu to experience „smørrebrød“ in all possible varieties. You can go the traditional way and have some house made „sprit“ with your meal or choose from the vast selection of beers and wines. The booking process was very easy and even calling in to inform the restaurant of our estimated late arrival was a breeze. The phone was answered in less than 10 seconds. If you go there for lunch watch out, as you can spend quite a long, yet good time in selma and might end up somewhat drunk. It’s on the pricey side but I would highly recommend a visit.
Be the first to ReplySmart Smorrebrod without pretense
A Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee, the first to achieve such recognition for Smørrebrød, Selma is the product of a collaboration between local brewery Mikkeller and Swedish Chef Magnus Peterson. Open for lunch daily except for Tuesday, a short staircase dividing guests from homey confines named after Peterson’s daughter, diners are invited to order a la carte or to participate in a two-hour tasting, the former proving necessary on a crowded trip but sufficient to show why Selma has often been declared the “best lunch in town.” Embracing modernity with reverence for tradition, Rye made on-site the canvas for creative Open-Faced Sandwiches, meals smartly start with a choice of Herring from which one cured in Black Currants takes on pink highlights to match pickled Onions and dehydrated Beetroot. Prone to daily change based on Ingredients, though a few classics are indispensable, Selma’s Fried Plaice does away with Breading in favor of loosely-applied Rye Crumbs beneath delicate Sauce and plump Shrimp while a Dessert of Rosemary Ice Cream, Brown Butter Ganache and local Berries delivers a “choose-your-own adventure” of tastes, temperatures and textures.
Be the first to ReplyInnovative smørrebrød
Absolute fantastic smørrebrød are served at this restaurant. Does not quite the top-notch Schønnemann standard but very close and very innovate. A must for any Copenhagen trip according to us.
Be the first to ReplyNice experience for Smorrebord
We had lunch and tried different sorts of smorrebrod.Nice restaurant to try smorrebrod but the overall experience lacks something authentic (might be too touristic?). The pros Use of fresh and seasonal ingredients, The "3 kind of herringgs" smorrebrod was really good, Good list of aquavit including home made ones (the blackcurrent leaf was really tasty), Each smorrebord is pretty generous (not sure 3 per person as recommended by the waitress is required). The cons No real ambiance, feels more like a tourist restaurant.
Be the first to ReplySuper Smörrebröd
We experience maybe one of the best smörrebröd lunch ever in Copenhagen in this Selma restaurant. Besides the lunch was delicious the modern way of making the smörrebröds was super nice. Highly recommended!
Be the first to Replysensational smørrebrød
I know there are so many options for smørrebrød for far cheaper but this is the real deal and I feel worth experiencing. The blackcurrant herring and yellow and red beet ones were fantastic. Presentation is stunning, quality is evident and flavours absolutely delicious. Staff and service was outstanding, decor is beautiful. The rhubarb white chocolate dessert for gorgeous too. Came to around £50 which a little pricier than other places but I feel like this is the creme de la creme of smørrebrød.
Be the first to ReplyGood quality but expensive
We went here with my son and his girlfriend who both live in Copenhagen. We had a great evening and enjoyed our dishes. We each had two sandwiches which was enough but the rye bread is quite dominant so even though we had a number of different ones they all tasted quite similar. The interior is quite cool but don’t be put off by the very uninviting front door! The bill was just under £300 which I felt was a lot for such simple food albeit with a couple of bottles of wine.
Be the first to ReplyGourmet Smorrebrods
Gourmet smorrebrods that have an abundance of flavors. Very friendly and attentive service. Also some nice locally made beverages.
Be the first to ReplyThe Perfect Smørrebrød Lunch
Excellent modern Smørrebrød, served in in a no nonsense way, the produce is top notch and so is the presentation. The restaurant is not the biggest or prettiest you have ever seen, but that is less important here, it's all about the food.
The staff is knowledgeable and efficient.
Great lunch!
