Stayed in the Conrad for the weekend and got to dine here
Stayed in the Conrad for the weekend and got to dine here for both a breakfast and dinner. Breakfast: shared an omelet with mushrooms and manchego cheese (which was delicious!) and a side of chicken sausage. Juice was very fresh but I'd expect that for the $12 a glass. Overall the ingredients and dishes are clearly high quality and well-made, great start to a day! Dinner: dinner was just amazing. We ordered the Mac & cheese, mushrooms, and lamb chops. Meat was cooked perfectly, mushrooms were creamy and flavorful, and the Mac n cheese was unlike any I've had before, in a good way. I would definitely recommend all 3. We were seated right under the chilly air conditioning I believe so the food did get cold pretty quickly unfortunately. The dining space itself does have a nice ambiance and good view when the weather is nice. I had to remove a star only because the service I experienced was not up to the standard that other reviews raved about. At breakfast they forgot our juice until we reminded the staff toward the end of our meal, but not a big deal. At dinner, our server seemed to be devoting so much time and attention to talking story with the guests seated next to us that we struggled to get his attention for the check.

The crudo was phenomenal, all of the food we tried including lamb, flat iron, asparagus, and tomato carpaccio were fantastic, and the service was above and beyond--you all made our day. Thank you!

One of my favorite downtown restaurants, amazing views and yummy dishes! If attending performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall or Ahmanson Theatre, a great food spot before or after! Everything is incredible, each dish so flavorful. Hands down favorite is Jose Andres interpretation of Mac n' cheese. It's light, delicious cheese and the egg yolk compliments every bite. Anytime I dine here, I have to order it! Love that any dish can be shared at the table, the lobster salpicon devoured in seconds! You can't go wrong with anything on this menu. Save room for dessert! The burnt cheesecake unique and different but divine also loved the dehydrated chocolate mousse. Staff is welcoming and helpful when you have the difficult decision of narrowing down what to order, because it's that good.

A group of friends and myself came to San Laurel before an 8:00 show at the Walt. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is due to the food as the mac and cheese + lamb chops we ordered weren't quite for our palettes specifically. This, however, did not take away from the fact that we received such amazing service. We started at the bar with Enrique who was simply amazing. The drinks (I HIGHLY recommend the Flyer) he prepared were perfect along with his attention. We were able to take our drinks over to the couch seating and chat more as a group (& not take up bar space any longer) which was great. I'll definitely be back for drinks again! Thanks Enrique!

We were staying at the Conrad and decided to have breakfast/brunch at San Laurel and we were blown away. My husband and I both agree that this was one of the best brunches we've ever had in terms of food. We got the yogurt & granola and omelette. Omelette was delicious as well but the yogurt & granola...which sounds straightforward and very basic was most definitely the standout for us. The chef found a way to uplevel this dish very elegantly. The granola was perfectly crunchy and not overly sweet. We've been obsessed with recreating this granola ever since we tried this dish. We're not big breakfast or brunch people, but San Laurel has captivated and convinced us enough to reconsider. Ambiance is a nice California modern vibes with outdoor seating available. Seems dog friendly too!

I went for a fancy dinner with my partners and a pair of friends. It was excellent - food, drinks, and service. Looking forward to when we might have another reason to return.

The ambience is lit! You would always want to come and chill after a long day! Also I love the rack of lamb and wild mushrooms. The overall flavor is deep but not over the top. I like the medium rare for rack of lamb cause it's tender and juicy. I also like to commend our server Kevin and the one guy who really took effort to get us a great pictures, his name is Alfonso, thank you!
Be the first to ReplyFish and lamb are great and also very good service.
Did not expect to be this impressed from a hotel restaurant.

My girlfriend and I had a short girls' weekend in downtown LA and stayed at The Conrad. The hotel itself was amazing but it was made even better by our breakfast experience! The restaurant was cute and bright. The food was simply phenomenal! The Open Face Omelet was hands-down the best omelet I've ever had - and the pork sausage on the side was the perfect complement. The orange juice was so fresh and delicious. The service was good. My girlfriend and I are still raving about this meal and I'll be dreaming of that omelet for weeks to come!

San Laurel is clearly a top-level evening out, despite not really being my usual kind of place. Very modern and polished, very precise service, and food which fits this mold to a tee. Great for an elegant celebratory dinner.- Decent wine selection, but they were missing one of the sherries on their by-the-glass list. A minor thing, and the only misstep of the night.- Tomato tartare - I did not expect to like this, but it was quite good, very flavorful, and looked like a million bucks. My wife was in love with it.- Fennel soup with crab - very subtle and creamy, almost too subtle. Definitely enjoyable, but not quite amazing. Still, recommended.- Head-on shrimp in seasoned olive oil - recommended by the server, not my original choice, but oh my word, this was amazing. Super flavorful, served with toast to sop up all of the oily deliciousness. Do not miss this.- Rack of lamb - cooked just right, seasoned aggressively but very balanced. Probably the best lamb chops I have ever had. Would have been perfect with a few fingerling potatoes.- Mushroom with cream and fried egg - smooth and tasty. I thought it was alright, my wife loved it.- Pistachio cake - light and packed with flavor. Semi-deconstructed, with one bite of everything hitting all of the right notes. Lots going on (strawberry, lime, pistachio), but everything went together just right.- Basque "burnt" cheesecake - very rich, super creamy, sort of a molten cake-type texture in the middle. Best shared - this was not light, but it was very satisfying.Every single thing we ordered was great, with the shrimp, lamb, and desserts absolute standouts IMO, while my wife was amazed at the tomato tartare and mushrooms. As usual, Jose Andres delivers. $400 out the door well-spent, and a worthy 500th Yelp review :)

Especially the plating was sooooo amazing and pretty. The server was nice too. The oil cracker you must try.. soooooooo good

Good food, which you should expect, but being charged for a side of mayo (and ketchup) on a $1000 bill, not cool. Why don't you charge for using the restroom or breathing your air? Don't recommend at all. Or if you go, check your bill. I called the manager the next day. He kindly offered a refund of $8, which I declined and laughed it. It is not about the money. It's about taking advantage of both the clients and the staff. I would have gladly paid extra on the tip for the side of mayo, but come on. You should be smarter and wiser than that, Jose Andres.

A very nice meal! The food and service were fantastic We started with the Tomato Tartare and the Lobster Salpicon. Both were delicate and nicely designed. The Tartare has more flavor than you'd expect and the Lobster dish was was light and sophisticatedFor entrees we had the Duck Breast and Lubina. The duck was cooked beautifully and the fat was rendered fully and gave great flavor. There was a slight sweetness to the bark that complimented the fat so nicely. The Lubina was gorgeous and everything on the dish came together perfectly. The mussel.saffron cream was such a nice baseThe Grapefruit in Textures dessert is so pretty! Loads of acid and sweet and cold. The Dehydrated Chocolate Mousse was also quite tasty. Completely different textures coming together with layers of sweet flavor The server and staff were the consummate pros....we never waited for anything and our server answered all of our questions with a sincere smile Our meal was great but I will say this was the least 'sexy' Jose Andre dining experience we've had. The food is top notch but not THE top. The dishes are beautiful but not as...avant-garde (maybe) as his other restaurants?

Wow. I came here to support Chef Andes' good works, and because well-traveled, discriminating clients said it was one of the best meals they've ever enjoyed. Agreed! Understated ambiance, attentive service, beautiful plating, and the explosive blending of fresh flavors in such a unique way. A lovely way to spend our anniversary!
Be the first to ReplyWent last night for a Birthday dinner, just us two.
.. Okay, THE GOOD: the food is incredible. Started with Cheese and cracker thing, the Uni and the Striped Bass crude - all three were outstanding. Two Sazeracs, two martinis - best Sazerac ever. Restaurant is beautiful, would be even better in summer with the amazing views of DTLA, the Music Center and of course the Disney Concert Hall. That's the end of "the Good".If you UBER like we did, you have LITERALLY no idea how to find the restaurant. You walk around looking for signage amongst scaffolding, building, etc. We finally found the under ground parking and they directed us to elevators that took us to the 10th floor.... check in for the hotel, bar, restaurants... we found the sign to the San Laurel - checked in and waited... "your table is taking too long, so sorry".... waited. Waited... Waited. No where to sit, no where to go, no advice... waited. Finally two seats opened at the bar within the restaurant and we grabbed them. Then waited... and waited and waited... finally a lovely bartender took our order... We waited and waited, the drinks never came. The Front of House manager took us to our seats next to the kitchen, with a massive glass wall - which is actually cool, you can watch the magic happen. Tables were very close together and there was an EXTREMELY loud customer next to us and facing me... no one at the restaurant's fault and I should have asked to move, my bad. The waiter was v very nice but still on auto-pilot, every word was memorized, he was robotic. Said EXACTLY the same thing, word for word to all three tables in our row. I ordered a wine, to go with the (INCREDIBLE) Ribeye... a Tempranillo from Mallorca, and he said he'd cork it to let it breathe... Food came, and as mentioned - STUNNING. But then the Ribeye came, no wine.... I prodded Walter for the wine, he went to get it.. "Oh, sorry - we're out of that one..." I chose my 2nd choice (amazing wine), but it now didn't have time to breathe and we were half way through the Ribeye... Sloppy. It was a birthday. No mention of it. Front of house mentioned it, not the waiter, except to tell the woman next to us who was having a birthday as well, that he'd bring her a birthday dessert when they return (they had to scurry off to Disney)...Would I go again? We want to try Agua Viva, there. And the Bar looks great at the reception area. I overheard this restaurant has been open for 8 months, it felt like 8 minutes. I'm an ARDENT FAN of Mr. Andres - and remain so. But this meal cost $300 each... for that, you want everything to be pretty perfect. For now I'll dream about that Ribeye... one of the best steaks I've ever had!!!

Good food from Jose Andres for a Spanish Californian experience. I enjoyed all the different flavors. The portions are small but everything we ordered had different flavors from each other. The server was extra informative and really sold us in the cuisine.

If you want a beautiful view of the Walt Disney Hall, come here. Especially around sunset. Reservations are easy to make online. I recommend getting there earlier around 5:30pm as the restaurant does fill up quickly. If you do have to wait, thankfully there's a bar near the reception area. It can be hard to find this establishment since you'd need to take two elevators to arrive, but I assume this will be resolved when the construction and hotel is fully open. The inside of the serving room is nicely decorated with plants and comfy furniture. Food around is good. I really enjoyed the mushroom, egg and toast dish with the signature San Laurel cream. Seafood is nice as an appetizer, but the lamb's nice salted crust is more memorable. Don't skip on the dessert. Really enjoyed the cream on top of the pistachio cake. Would come back just for the dessert. Add the guava ice cream for a nice tart companion if you can. Parking is validated here. After dinner, be sure to walk around the hotel and check out the poolside bar too.

During the night I don't know if it is because the event or sth this place is packed I am so jet lagged and want to grab Sth to eat I was so ready to order the duck breast but the main dining area is closed. The only option you have is to get a burger and plenty of drinks. I want to give the credit to the security downstairs with a pair of glasses cuz the hotel is kind of a puzzle right now they don't have a obvious grant door causing me super confused where to enter. He walked me all the way through to the escalator. Thank u!
Be the first to ReplyWasn't sure what to order even though the menu is
Wasn't sure what to order even though the menu is relatively small! Ended up going with what our waitress recommended for something on the "lighter" side - the tortilla el camino! The flavor was pretty good, but as someone who had never had this dish before, I was a bit underwhelmed with the amount of tortilla in this dish (literally just 4 crisps). The base had a bit too much yogurt for my taste, which overpowered some of the other lighter flavors (like the flowers). There is a valet for guests of the restaurant - with validation, it ended up at $20 for 4 hours (a bit pricey but plenty of time to even walk around a bit after your meal!)Service was decent - our waitress filled our coffee mugs several times! The place is beautiful (very aesthetic) with a view of The Walt Disney Concert Hall.Overall, I would possibly return but probably not for a while at least. The food was good / decent but not amazing.
